Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Expulsion
"Was the person who just left a staff member?" Liang Juan’er frowned as she watched in the direction Shao Meijuan disappeared and asked the worker who stopped her.
"That’s a relative of our leader’s family." The worker didn’t recognize Liang Juan’er and didn’t treat her kindly.
Speaking of which, Liang Juan’er had been married to Pu Jun for five years, and Pu Jun had been working at the post office for four and a half years. She had never been to Pu Jun’s workplace because Pu Jun requested it.
Pu Jun said that he got the job as a formal employee thanks to his father-in-law, and he wanted to be diligent and make progress out of self-respect. Pu Jun had indeed made a great effort to become deputy director, and his abilities were competent; combined with his father-in-law’s influence, it was achieved.
It’s normal for men to care about face. Liang Juan’er, who loved Pu Jun very much and felt his good treatment towards her and their daughter, never minded this small request.
But now, being stopped by the post office staff while seeing a pretty female college student enter effortlessly to find Pu Jun, and herself not being recognized—when she was the wife, a legal spouse of Pu Jun—made her mentally collapse a bit. However, being a person who also cared about face, she silently withdrew.
As Liang Juan’er came out so quickly, Yi Roujing, not far away, slightly raised an eyebrow in surprise. Their union could be said to be in Liang Juan’er’s favor, with Pu Jun as the weaker party. Even if she didn’t want things to lead to a divorce, it shouldn’t be settled so hastily, right?
Yi Roujing walked over slowly, and even though Liang Juan’er seemed a bit lost, she recognized her at once.
"You’re still here?" Liang Juan’er mumbled as she watched Yi Roujing walk past her.
"Comrade, do you know me?" Yi Roujing stopped and looked at Liang Juan’er in confusion.
"I overheard your conversation with the post office staff just now, and I know you’re a student at the Foreign Language University," Liang Juan’er said with a smile. "By the way, I wanted to ask you what kind of person your classmate Meijuan is?"
Yi Roujing assessed her curiously, causing Liang Juan’er to pause for a moment before introducing herself with a bitter smile, "I’m the wife of your classmate’s brother. I’m not very familiar with my husband’s distant relative, so I’m thinking if I could learn more."
"I really am Meijuan’s classmate, but I only know a little. It seems like she has a boyfriend from her hometown. Her mother isn’t in good health, so she often sends half of her subsidies home from school..." Yi Roujing chose some words, mixing truth with falsehood, making it more credible.
"She has a boyfriend?" Liang Juan’er exclaimed with delight. It was quite possible that there was really nothing between her and Pu Jun, and maybe they were indeed just distant relatives.
"Comrade, I have something to do, so I’ll be leaving first. I just went to buy some pastries and have already delayed things. I’ll take a shortcut." Yi Roujing walked into the very narrow alley behind the post office, but after walking for a while, she suddenly stopped and muttered, "Really indecent."
Yi Roujing continued walking and soon exited the alley.
Uncontrollably, Liang Juan’er also entered the alley. The closer she got to the window, the clearer the voices became.
"Ah, um, brother Jun."
"I know you like it. It would be even better if you gave me a son."
"I’m not even married yet, how could I have children?"
"If you really get pregnant, I’ll marry you."
...
Familiar voices struck Liang Juan’er’s heart like a hammer. As a married woman who had given birth, she knew all too well what was happening inside the window.
Her body began to tremble uncontrollably, driven by both anger and pain. The happiness she thought she had was actually just self-deception, or perhaps it was deliberately orchestrated by Pu Jun. He had clearly said that a daughter was as good as a son, and that it didn’t matter if he never had a son, as long as he had her and their daughter. The three of them could live happily together for a lifetime.
He was lying, after all, he cared. He wanted a son, and she wasn’t irreplaceable to him. And what about herself?
Liang Juan’er collapsed directly into the alley, sitting dazedly on the ground, while the suppressed voices continued to penetrate her ears, drilling into her heart, and embedding in her mind.
"Juan’er, besides having a good face, what else does that Pu Jun have? Don’t make rash decisions; finding a husband shouldn’t be all about looks."
"His capabilities? Sure, he’s somewhat capable. He seems to treat you well, but Juan’er, mom tells you, men change. He tolerates and pretends to like you only because he sees your good conditions."
"Juan’er, if anything happens, you must tell mom. Mom tells you that marriages without matched doors will have vanity and self-esteem that, when crushed, accumulate little by little and might eventually explode. I think that Pu Jun can endure too well. Such people are scary; I fear you might suffer grievances."
...
Mrs. Liang’s voice kept flashing through Liang Juan’er’s mind. These words were said to her before marriage and over the years, but Liang Juan’er never took them seriously. Now she regretted it.
Liang Juan’er lacked the courage and face to rush into her husband’s workplace and catch him in the act; she walked out of the alley in a daze and returned to the City Government Courtyard, went home to her parents.
Yi Roujing, standing at the entrance of the City Government Courtyard, watched the lifeless Liang Juan’er enter the door and return to her family home. Then she left. Fortunately, she had never placed her hopes on Liang Juan’er. That deeply loving woman likely didn’t have the courage to destroy her peaceful life, but her mother probably had the means. After all, the photos had already been sent there.
Last Sunday, when Yi Roujing was following someone, she took a camera, had scouted the best angle and position in advance, and obtained decisive evidence.
On Wednesday, November 29th, Zhang Yaen shared with Yi Roujing and the others the news she got from her boyfriend Shen Xunteng.
"Do you remember the time we went on a fall outing with the Foreign Language University? There was someone named Shao Meijuan?" Zhang Yaen’s expression was very disdainful.
"I remember, she even caused trouble for Roujing," Ren Xuejuan chimed in.
"She got expelled from school," Zhang Yaen said.
"What happened?" Gong Jue’e asked in confusion, thinking it must be something serious to get expelled.
"She committed adultery," Zhang Yaen huffed. "She had a boyfriend and spent his money while he worked hard outside, all while she fooled around herself. She was involved with someone apparently influential, and there were photos taken, irrefutable evidence. Just yesterday, a group of thugs went to Foreign Language University and stripped Shao Meijuan in front of many students, distributing her indecent photos everywhere, though they were all of just her alone."
"The situation became such a scandal that the Foreign Language University directly expelled her."
"That’s really shameless," Wang Ruohua exclaimed.
"Did Comrade Yu Jianfeng not go into detail with you?" Le Xinxin teased.
"He’s invited me for dinner tonight, I’ll make sure to ask him in detail."
