Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Liang Juan’er

Since Liang Juan’er, Pu Jun’s wife, received an anonymous letter, she had been restless, mostly feeling anger and confusion. The letter said that Pu Jun was having an affair with a young and beautiful female university student, and that they were fooling around in the post office on Sundays.

Liang Juan’er truly loved Pu Jun. Otherwise, why would the daughter of a big leader in the Education Bureau marry a young man born into a peasant family and only a temporary worker? She fell for Pu Jun’s handsome appearance and his gentle and considerate nature.

To get Pu Jun a good job, Liang Juan’er didn’t know how much effort she spent back at her parents’ home. It’s all due to her efforts that Pu Jun could get the position of Vice Director in the Post Office, though she was willingly doing this for him.

Pu Jun had nothing but praise for Liang Juan’er, both before and after their marriage. He did almost eighty percent of the housework. They’ve been married for five years now, and Liang Juan’er only gave birth to a daughter, which Pu Jun never complained about. He was also very patient and attentive to their daughter, so Liang Juan’er didn’t believe Pu Jun would cheat on her.

The most important reason was that Pu Jun handed over his monthly salary except for five yuan for his own expenses, and this had been the case for years. Even if he wanted to fool around, he didn’t have the financial capacity. Another reason was Liang Juan’er’s father, who kept a watchful eye, leaving Pu Jun no room to stray.

Even though she didn’t believe the anonymous letter, the matter still stuck in Liang Juan’er’s heart like a thorn.

"Jun, I’m taking Hua’er back to my parents’ house today. Have lunch at work," said Liang Juan’er, who originally didn’t plan to go back but had made the decision uncontrollably.

"Okay." Liang Juan’er often went back to her parents’ house, and given its proximity, Pu Jun had also tagged along many times for meals. However, at a table full of people who looked down on him, Pu Jun rarely attended meals over time, deciding to hold on to some dignity.

Liang Juan’er dropped Hua’er at her parents’ house, made an excuse, and left, ending up, almost by instinct, at the post office where Pu Jun worked. She didn’t go in but stood at a distance watching people go in and out—young and old, but almost all of them coming out shortly after entering.

Yi Roujing had stalked Liang Juan’er before, so she recognized her, though Liang Juan’er didn’t know her, which made things easier.

Yi Roujing had inquired beforehand and had observed occasionally. The post office staff came out at times to buy snacks, so it wasn’t unusual. See, here came a girl who worked at the window.

Yi Roujing waited. When this girl was about to pass by Liang Juan’er, she hurried to her and asked with a smile, "Mr. Huang, is Meijuan in the post office?"

"Who are you?" The post office staff saw too many people daily, making it impossible to remember everyone who’s been there. However, Yi Roujing was good-looking, so Mr. Huang looked at her a couple of extra times, feeling she looked familiar.

"Mr. Huang, I know you forget easily with the noble work of serving so many people at the post office. It’s normal that you don’t recognize me, but I remember you, Mr. Huang. Last time, when I accompanied my classmate Meijuan here, didn’t Vice Director Pu politely invite us to the office for tea? I heard from Meijuan that Vice Director Pu is her brother," Yi Roujing said with a smile.

"Right, I’m a student at the Foreign Language University," Yi Roujing introduced herself.

"Oh, I get it. You mean the college girl who comes to mail remittances every Sunday, right? So she’s our Vice Director’s sister, huh? I thought..." Mr. Huang left his words hanging, sparking curiosity.

"What did you think?" Yi Roujing asked, puzzled.

"Nothing, nothing." Mr. Huang smiled ambiguously, thinking how lucky their Vice Director was to know such pretty girls.

"Meijuan and I left school together. I first went home, and she said she was coming to the post office, so I thought I’d come looking for her," Yi Roujing explained with a smile.

"I haven’t seen her yet, but she should be here soon. She usually comes around nine every morning and leaves around lunchtime," replied Mr. Huang.

"Is it going to take that long? I can’t wait. I’ll head back to school first," Yi Roujing hesitated, "Mr. Huang, don’t tell Meijuan I came by, lest she worry I’m looking for her for something urgent. I just came to see if we could return to school together, nothing big. She already told me not to wait for her this morning, so I’ll go back by myself."

After saying goodbye to Mr. Huang, Yi Roujing left, yet after entering a lane, she didn’t leave, instead loitering at the entrance.

The goal was clear. What Liang Juan’er would do next—endure silently or confront her unfaithful husband and the other woman—was what mattered. If she didn’t do it thoroughly, Yi Roujing would lend a hand.

"Meijuan?" The name imprinted on Liang Juan’er’s mind. The letter didn’t specifically mention a name, but it did say one character matched her name. She kept her eyes glued to the post office’s main entrance, occasionally glancing at her watch. When the clock pointed to nine, her heartbeat quickened.

In the distance, a young girl, beautiful as a flower when smiling, approached. She wore a high-collared red sweater overlaid with a thin military green jacket, black pants, black leather shoes, and her hair in two braids. Her fair, tender face appeared even more delicate against her red and green attire.

Not everyone can pull off the red-green combo, but she did, and beautifully. At least, Liang Juan’er thought this girl was no less than those in the art troupe. Though she didn’t quite match up to the girl who just chatted with the post office staff, she looked good enough. Beautiful girls often kept company with other beautiful girls.

Perhaps it was a gut feeling, but Liang Juan’er disliked this girl, feeling a tightness in her chest. Seeing her enter the post office quickened her heart rate, and she instinctively headed toward the main entrance.

"Oh, Meijuan’s here. Are you here to send off another remittance?"

"Not today. I’ve always been grateful for your help, so I brought some snacks for everyone to enjoy. Is Vice Director Pu here? He’s always been sincerely serving the people, so he should try these snacks too."

"Yes, he is. He’s in the office. Go find him yourself."

Liang Juan’er’s heart sank. Were they so familiar that she could directly go to the office to find him? The whole unit seemed to know her—the girl and Vice Director Pu must have had some arrangements.

"Hey, Comrade, where are you going? This area is restricted to staff only." Liang Juan’er followed instinctively, but after a few steps, someone stopped her. She could only watch as Shao Meijuan entered through the curtain into the office at the back.
