Chapter 6: I Fucked Up?

The more she stared at his pretty face, the angrier and more irritated she became.

Who does he think he is?

Some pampered prince who thinks hourly tea times and golf equaled a privileged existence?

Or some spoiled rich child who thinks money and influence means an easy gateway in life?

The more she thought about it, the more agitated she was and eager for him to get lost.

The silence after their boss’s comeback had Berry and Lin swallowing hard at the lump that formed in their throats as they all stared worriedly at their boss.

Her eyes slowly reddened with tears as she glared hatefully at Ichor.

She swore never to be shaken again, but what she could not tolerate was a stranger reminding her of everything she had failed to become with or without the stupid fortune life desperately wants to be her burden.

Ichor just stood there and noticed how restless he felt at the sight of her tears. They flowed down freely and he hated how he was the reason to make that beautiful face angry.

His hands tightened as everyone turned to him expectantly, waiting for him to apologise.

But how was a demon from Hell supposed to comfort a mere mortal?

No demon cried or broke down like this in Hell as his father forbade it as a sign of weakness and a disease. He had heard countless mortals cry in the dungeons of Hell, while being tortured day and night by demons and monsters. He had always listened to their cries and taken it as a normal thing but never understood why they did.

Was it because of the pain in their dead hearts or the sight of him with other terrible monsters that frightened them?

His father will say the reason they cried and shed tears was because they wished to be remembered and saved by God from this place. A nasty trick by sinful men to gain sympathy and escape their punishment from sin.

You must never fall for it.

Lucifer warned with a strict glare. freewёbnoνel.com

He then stared at the mortal before him and became even more confused.

Corrine refused to look at him anymore, she turned to enter her office after warning Lin not to let him stay another second. Stylie quickly hurried after her boss inside the sound proof yet transparent cubicle, while Berry and Lin remained to see Ichor out of the building even if they were slightly hesitant to.

’’M–M–Mr. Hellworth, please...’’ Berry called that it was time for him to be excused but gasped when he moved a bit close to the transparent walls of the cubicle to stare intensely at the lovely mortal settling down quickly behind her desk.

’’I...fucked up?’’

Ichor repeated as he stared down at the two mortals shaking their head at him in disappointment right after leading him out of the building.

’’Of course, you did! It’s a miracle you managed to walk out of there alive. Normally, Boss isn’t always this patient with those that look down on her or insult her in any way,’’ Berry explained helplessly as the cool breeze after the rain swept through the parking lot of the building.

L–look down on her?

Ichor frowned at that was never his intention. He has never looked down on her. If she wasn’t this impressive enough, do you think he would suffer so much thinking and obsessively searching for her day and night over the past three weeks.

He recalled those long nights he would fly over the tall buildings, becoming one with the dark and at times sitting on top of buildings in his demon form just so he could concentrate and not forget how she looked.

Berry noticed how miserable he looked. They were starting to gather curious eyes and attention towards them because of him and how he looked. She didn’t know how else to quickly explain it to this oblivious being that seemed to have descended from heaven to grace them with his divine presence that he messed up pretty badly and has made one good solid impression on their boss.

Lin looked impatient, almost nervous to leave and return to their desk before their boss caught them talking to him.

Only for Ichor to say something really disturbing they wondered where he came from.

’’Was she...also trying to deceive me by crying too?’’

’’Huh?’’ Lin and Berry said, their mouths and facial expressions resembling one who had just been asked if the Sun appeared at night.

’’What in the hell are you saying?!’’ Berry screamed in a whisper as she glared at this enigma.

Is he just only good looking but crippled in the head and could not read the room?!

He had just insulted all of them, called their beautiful boss poor and now trying to act like the victim?!

Ichor blinked when they kept staring at him like he had just said something completely absurd.

’’Are you some alien that can’t really read the room? You just screwed up your chance of ever being an intern here and the boss is never going to like you because of what you said to her. Ever again! That was very mean!’’

Oh.

She probably hates it when someone is being too sincere.

He blinked in thought then smiled mischievously down at the adorable humans that were slowly becoming his pals. They were very welcoming when he showed up and tried their best to make him feel at home before the boss arrived. Though, he knows it was probably because of how he looked but anyways.

Berry arched one curious eyebrow at him, wondering what was running through that pretty head of his.

’’Can I have one more chance to win her over?’’

Both Lin and Berry scoffed like it was the most impossible thing on the planet.

’’Boss really gives strangers second chances to know her.’’

Lin nodded in agreement. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

’’Unless, you start being more humble for a guy that wants to be an intern,’’ she pointed to his designer clothes and expensive wristwatch.

Oh, she also hates flashy things as well.

Ichor noted as she stared down at his clothes and appearance, listening patiently to the humans before him.

’’Keep your pretty lips shut at most times and please, for the love of god, don’t scare boss with your bluntness about how you feel about her.’’

Ichor thought about it and decided he needed to be closer to these humans as they seemed to know more on how to win her over.

’’Instead, lean more on showing how you care than just saying it and making her feel uncomfortable by it. Try to be more on the low-key, demure, poised, respectful and submissive.’’

Interesting.

His mortal really had a strange taste in the type of people she liked and kept close.

It seemed challenging for Ichor to be all those things but he was eager.

Anything to get her to acknowledge him once and maybe get her to like him.

He smiled at the thought.

’’Go home for now and think about what we’ve told you and return tomorrow to try again. I and Lin will do our best to secure your place by her side.’’

They both nodded at him.

’’We would have no new intern until you have secured your place in boss’s heart!’’

Ichor only arched one eyebrow down at them in interest.
