Chapter 42: Dinner Date 1
{ Some Minutes To Six That Very Day}
’’Bye, Grim!’’ Berry waved last as she and her other workmates cleared their table and left.
Today, because of Boss’s sudden date—a casual dinner with a friend from the upper room, work had to be dismissed early.
The moment they all left, he turned in his seat and found his woman checking her face in the mirror. He stood up from his desk and approached the door leading inside her office.
He was prepared to wait for her all night thinking she would rather be that responsible unapproachable woman that would rather focus on finishing her work even if it means the end of the world.
She isn’t preparing to go on a dinner date with that human, right?
Corrine sighed when she spotted his reflection on her makeup mirror, staring at her intensely from the door. She closed the powder with a sharp clasping sound, tossing it on her table gently before turning around fully to face her new intern.
One who was already becoming so disobedient and rebellious just on only his second day of work.
’’Didn’t you see the memo that all of you are free to leave now?’’ Corrine asked, trying not to sound so exhausted because she didn’t understand why he hadn’t left yet. It was infuriating if she wanted to be honest with herself.
Grim’s eyes softened on her in realization.
She was going.
A casual dinner date with a friend that caused her to want to ignore all work that’s left for the night was much scarier than having to face his pasts in Eden.
’’You’re...going...?’’
It was strange.
Corrine found herself softening within when he said that as if she was doing something that was going to destroy him forever.
’’I thought you couldn’t find that card that had the address written on it,’’ he reminded her, his gloved hands clasped before him tightening as he was slowly losing all self control to confine her into these very walls with him forever.
Anything.
He would do anything if it meant him being the only one she saw and loved until the end of time.
Corrine frowned, noticing how strange it was that her address card got lost suddenly after they saw Malachi out of their office.
She sighed again, this time so she could be much calmer and less hostile to him. He was just being weirdly protective of her. The Boss he stalked and harassed into giving him a place here.
’’Yes,’’ She breathed. ’’But thankfully, I had the address memorized. So, I should have no problem locating the place.’’
She stood up quickly as it was already getting late and began to gather her things. She was leaving now because she wanted to take a quick ride home to shower and change into something more casual and mostly because of this awkward conversation she was having with her new intern.
It was all so strange.
’’You have it memorized...’’
She tried not to look at him as he said that in a way that made her so uncomfortable. She switched off the table lamps and almost had an attack when she turned and he was already so close. So, close enough to hear her pounding heartbeat. If not for the table that stopped him from reaching her completely, Corrine feared what might have happened. She gave him this wide and disbelieving look.
Grim calmly eased himself on the table so he could match her height and stare right into her terrified dark green eyes.
He would never hurt her. He tried to tell her but at the same time he would do anything to keep her from seeing those she shouldn’t see or be with.
’’You like dinner dates?’’ he asked in a voice so soothing, so smooth that for a while she was under his spell. His eyes flickering all over her face as he had her frozen to a spot.
’’I can create one for you right now, tonight,’’ he promised. Corrine blinked.
’’So, please, don’t go anywhere,’’ he finished with his eyes moving until they met hers.
They were the most beautiful pair of eyes she believed she would ever be fortunate to see in many lifetimes.
But there was something this enigma couldn’t seem to understand.
’’No, thank you,’’ She said, picking up her bag and leaving. Though her legs felt weak and her entire body looked like millions of ants were currently camping at every inch of her body, she was determined not to let him have his way with her this time.
He was getting bold and even more ridiculous with every day of knowing him.
’’Good night,’’ she hoped he would understand there that she could never see him as anything other than an annoying thing so hard to get rid of in her life.
Corrine raced down the cold parking lot to her car. She was feeling bad for him but it still wasn’t clear what he really wanted from her. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
For god’s sake, he could simply just be romantically interested in Berry and having fun seeing her suffer with having him around.
Henry was the only man who had ever truly loved her. It was only his kind of love she had been introduced to. All other kinds of men flocking around her were either creeps or the kind she believed can never be truly interested in her.
The reason she was even going on this casual dinner date was...
Corrine found herself hesitating from unlocking her car door.
....Was....
’’Anais.’’
She didn’t need to look up to see that he was already standing in front of her. His lovely scent filled her nostrils, awakening something in her that confused her so much she wanted to blame it on the cancer for making her feel this way and suffer.
’’Tell me how you want it to be and I will plan it according to your wish,’’ he said, trying and failing again to convince her.
She saw how his gloved hands moved and tightened around the dark handles of her car door. His gentle way of stopping her from provoking his jealousy beyond past its limit. Corrine couldn’t see the dark, gold eyes that trailed on her possessively, ready to do anything to stop her from spending a moment with someone else.
Someone he didn’t even know or his intentions towards his Anais.
His eyes flickered to the beautiful hair on her head. His free hand touching the strands of it lightly.
What if this ridiculous casual dinner date creates the opportunity for that human to touch even a single strand of her hair?
That could cause a serious problem or the end of this world.
His Anais remains untouched, unharmed and his.
He let go of her hair, giving her a chance to prevent whatever was going to happen next if she remained stubborn. fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
But his cold, ice queen was ready to even risk the life of her casual dinner date partner. She turned to him with a stare capable of freezing the waters and said with a challenging look.
’’No. Thank you.’’
Grim slowly withdrew his hands from her car door, locking eyes with his fierce human.
He could be dangerous too.
She has no idea.
’’The next time you touch me is the day I get you fired and walking you out of my life with handcuffs and a lifetime behind the bars.’’
She threatened. His eyes moved as she unlocked her car and got in quickly, feeling the sparks of her anger all over.
He was this close to getting run over by her if he hadn’t calmly stepped away. She raced out of the parking lot like she was being pursued and the Prince Of Hell did nothing but stare calmly at the direction she disappeared to.
The breeze blowing against him in the cold and empty space. Twilight deepened the gold in his eyes as he watched her disappear. Pursuing her in a safe and civilized manner was becoming increasingly difficult. It felt like a test he was being forced to pass aggressively every second he looked at it.
’’Your Royal Highness,’’ Azazel materialized from the shadow on the ground beside him, greeting him in that polite head bow before his sovereign. Grim’s eyes remained fixed on the road as if he could still stare at his Anais as if she would realize her mistake soon and come back to him.
He was ready to give her the world if that was what it took to make her look at him once.
Just once. He wanted to be loved by her and tossed away if that was what she wanted.
He still remembered the soft feel of her hands on him. It was something now engraved in a part of him that can never be erased.
’’The car is here to take you back home, Your Highness,’’ Azazel announced, with his head still bowed to the ground, waiting for the prince to make a move.
Then he realized she wasn’t coming back to him and felt really bad.
Too bad, Anais. I wanted this to be safe and memorable for the both of us.
But now...
You leave me no other choice.
