Chapter 37: The Craziest Thing

’What could be the craziest thing you think can happen to you, Dr. Lyzer?’

Someone had asked him a long time ago during an interview and he told them something as random as winning the lottery or discovering the cure for all diseases.

But deep down, he knew the craziest thing was when the universe seemed to determined to help you do evil. Lining up every opportunity so perfectly that you barely had to lift a finger.

Lyzer smiled, finishing the glass cup of spirit he had poured for himself the moment Racheal Green left. He stood beside a window, observing the raindrops as his other free hand remained buried in his pocket.

’’Master, is there something else that you need me to do?’’ Zero scooted close to him, switching to an intelligent tone.

’’Yes,’’ Neal stepped away from the window after giving the small robot his empty glass cup. ’’Call my brother.’’

He ordered as he moved towards his table and began sorting out some documents with a smile.

Zero paused in his movement and began to call Neal Malcolm Ashworth.

’’I’m in a meeting. What is it?!’’ his brother snapped, his sharp, irritated tone caught the doctor off guard and for a moment he thought of not informing him about this latest improvement.

The sky rumbled slowly, as if ushering in the domineering and almighty presence his brother into his office.

Lyzer turned around, leaning on his table while crossing his arms and feet. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

’’I have found a survivor of the family in the picture you gave me the other day.’’

Neal didn’t say anything and Lyzer wondered if they were still connected.

’’So?’’ His dark and mysterious voice came from Zero’s speakers. Lyzer had always feared his brother, but he had never respected him. They were two different things. Even if Neal was in-charge and the God of this hell of the living, Lyzer could only be a humble and fearful subordinate, just like the rest of them, rather than to be a real blood brother to someone he believed was worse than the devil himself.

’’The mother or the child? Which one did you find?’’

Lyzer sighed softly and answered, ’’The child. Her name is Racheal Green. The mother committed suicide years after that incident.’’

Lyzer wondered if he should tell his brother he knows what really happened sixteen years ago already. He heard it all from Racheal Green tonight and he wondered if he would ever be prepared to know of all the terrible things his brother has done since their descent into this world.

’’Pathetic,’’ was his response and it alarmed Lyzer in so many ways he straightened from the table and stared disturbingly at Zero like he would have stared at his brother if he was here.

’’Surprisingly, the child has been one of my patients who doesn’t remember anything about that night. It must have been so traumatic as she now suffers from severe neurological disorder.’’

Neal said nothing. Lyzer could already assume he didn’t care about the child of the man that once betrayed him.

’’I have already made the necessary arrangements. In two weeks, your daughter should be right back under your control.’’

Lyzer promised.

For a while Neal delayed in praising him or sounding pleased at his words.

’’Do whatever you want. Bring her back to me. But remember, she remains unharmed. I also want that cancer out of her body. If she isn’t present for the treatment, find a way to bring it to her.’’

It was Lyzer’s turn to be quiet.

’’No bloodline of mine will be humiliated by a mere mortal disease. I want it gone.’’

The last part sounded more like a threat than a command. Lyzer only rubbed his lips together as the call between them ended and Zero scooted away to rest in a corner of his office.

Lyzer drummed his fingers on his table in thought.

In the end, his precious rebellious niece was just like every other creature in this world.

And she has no idea what she could have become if her mother was like them.

Miss Poppi had to end the video call she was making with her boyfriend when she spotted one of her doctor’s patients moving down the hallway without her guide.

’’Oh, goodness!’’ the chubby nurse/receptionist bounced to her feet and caught up quickly with the dazed looking patient of theirs, stopping her from taking another step.

Racheal turned to the worried nurse with a drained look.

’’Oh, dear. What happened to you? Are you alright? Why did you leave his office without your guide? He went out a bit to get something to eat and will be right back to take you home. Why don’t you wait here a bit for him...’’

Racheal slowly withdrew her hands from the nurse’s touch and said, ’’Tell Carl I don’t need him anymore. I am fine now. Dr. Lyzer has made me whole again.’’

Poppi blinked in shock.

That soon? She knew the doctor she worked with was a medical genius, but it was strange that they had suddenly found a cure to her Neuro disease when it has been known to be incurable for more than four years now.

’’Really?’’

Racheal managed her smile, while nodding at the nurse.

’’Wow! That’s fast! Almost like you were touched by God and were healed immediately. I will surely say a prayer to him and thank him on your behalf this Sunday!’’

Racheal didn’t know how to respond to that and felt even more uncomfortable and wanted to leave this place as soon as possible.

’’Can I go now?’’ She asked weakly and Miss Poppi immediately stepped aside and nodded that she could.

As Racheal Green continued her lonely walk towards the elevator, Miss Poppi couldn’t help but stare at her sudden recovery.

’’Bless you, sweetie! I am so happy for you!’’ Miss Poppi waved as the elevator slid close, taking Racheal Green to the ground floor.

’’I know who killed your family that night. Particularly the little girl who shot your father with a gun.’’

Racheal’s lips quivered, her entire body shaking as the elevator began its slow and nauseating descent to the ground floor.

’’I can help you get your revenge. But you have to promise to do everything that I say.’’

Lyzer then placed a bottled serum before her.

’’To get your revenge against this person, you first need to be made whole, complete and stronger.’’

Racheal pulled out the picture of the girl that murdered her father that night. The child of the ruthless man that destroyed her life and family.

’’Her name is Corrine Anais Ashworth.’’

A soft ding from the elevator signaled her arrival to the ground floor.

’’Or she likes to call herself Corrine Anais Winfield. A struggling movie writer with lots of money, power, fame and inheritance waiting for her.’’

Racheal sighed as the elevator slid open and tears streamed down her face. She turned again to stare at the picture of a very beautiful, young woman. Her eyes were the sexiest shade of green, and she had the body that would attract all the love and attention in the world.

She looked healthy, beautiful, and untouched by suffering. And with no remorse for what she did to her and her family.

Racheal’s hatred and resentment reached its peak, making her body convulse as she thought of so many ways to bring this bitch down. To drag her straight down to the darkest pits of hell and make her feel every pain she felt for sixteen years now.

’’She is exactly your age. And someone hard to intimidate or bring down. So, you have to be very careful as well as creative with your revenge.’’

Racheal squeezed the picture of her father’s murderer hard into a tight ball, leaving it behind on the floor of the elevator before stepping out and marching out of the building.

The next day.

A bad thing has come.

Corrine stared at today’s prediction from her favourite fortune-telling app. The one she subscribes to every month. She was yet to step out of her car when she saw the prediction and tried to understand what it meant.
