Chapter 31: First Day
’’Your Highness, dare I ask the worth of this human to you?’’
Grim stared at the tall reflection of Azazel in the mirror. His hands up in his long hair as he struggled to pin them up, while getting ready for his first day at work. Today, he decided not to hide any part of himself except him being a demon or a forbidden fruit.
The long white strands with dark tips and midnight strands in-between glowed richly in the partly dark dressing room as they remained untamed in his hold.
’’So you have something to gossip about with my mother and maybe one day become a Hell Official?’’
Azazel swallowed as the young prince did his hair. He moved over to some set of drawers to fish out some worthy rings, trying them out one by one deciding which one suits him best.
Azazel’s eyes widened a bit when the prince waved him over. He hesitated before coming close enough to stare at the collection of rings that was worth more than his head.
’’Look closely, which one embodies dark green more?’’
’’Sorry?’’ Azazel blinked, his hands clasped in his front as he turned to lock gazes with his prince who has been behaving strangely lately.
Azazel didn’t understand and apologised for being too slow when Grim looked over to the rings, caressing his chin in thought.
’’She hates flashy things...’’ he mumbled out and Azazel stared in confusion, wondering who hates flashy things.
’’But at the same time I must look perfect in front of her.’’
Azazel blinked, frowning a bit in concern.
’’Even my hair looks ridiculously pinned this way,’’ he said, moving to another floor-length mirror noticing the minor flaws in his pristine hairdo. ’’Should I shorten it as usual or...’’
’’Your Royal Highness,’’ Azazel called in concern when he kept mumbling to himself.
’’Hmm, what shall I do?’’
He paused and stood straighter, noticing the freshly healed wound on his abdomen, which had left a dark scar across his otherwise flawless build.
He was nervous as well as excited. He wanted to be perfect and beyond for her.
’’Your Highness.’’
Golden eyes like the evening sun moved in the dark to the demon standing beside his rings.
Azazel didn’t know what to say and it was strange seeing the forbidden fruit behave like this and he could only guess the reason being that human.
What exactly is that human to him?
’’I think you look perfect.’’
You always do.
Grim blinked at the compliment and there was a minute of silence before he moved over to put on the shirt that had been picked and ironed just for this day. Azazel moved over to help him with the dark blazers that fit perfectly on him, highlighting his toned body and slim waist. He looked much taller in human clothes than his demonic robes.
He wore gloves he hoped weren’t so flashy enough to irritate his woman and for a moment, in his thousands of years of existence, he felt like he was going to be confronting all the events of his past rather than getting to meet the human he liked.
He sighed, took in deep breaths and prayed that she would be in a good mood on his first day.

Corrine’s frown deepened when Berry, Lin and Stylie overdid themselves to set up a place for the person she will be getting rid of soon once she got the answers that she needed from him. She sat behind her desk, watching as they ran like mice, colliding into each other from time to time as they cleared out a new desk, placed a newly bought system—Corrine wondered if they had been saving up for this, predicting his internship here.
It was more ridiculous to watch than to think about it. But it was a good distraction from thinking about Henry’s betrayal. She had noticed how her throat tightened at the mere thought of his name in her head. And it was even harder to hate him now. Call her stupid, but she might believe any excuse he might have for his betrayal and attitude towards her if he called and explained himself.
Corrine sighed, holding back the fresh set of tears that formed in her eyes. She had only heard of heartbreak but never imagined it could be this painful and cruel to her.
Now that she has decided not to take the cowardly way out of her problems, she kept asking herself this question.
If not Henry, then who will be willing to spend the remaining days of her life with her?
Her green eyes flickered to the grey-colored folder beside her laptop.
’’He’s here! He’s coming! He’s on his way!’’ Berry entered, dressed in a business suit Corrine had never seen on her before. She saw how excited and nervous they were at the arrival of a creep.
The creep who had given her a reason to keep going just days ago.
Even she was curious to see him again, mentally preparing herself to take charge, put him in his place and face him without wavering.
’’Where? Where? Where is he?’’ Lin asked, grinning like an idiot.
Berry leaned over the desk prepared for him, doing a quick last minute preparation. Making sure all the balloons are in the right place as she grabbed a confetti.
’’Stylie is leading him up!’’
’’Oh.’’ Lin straightened his suit and looked very handsome not in his usual baggy pants and hoodie Corrine thought it strange how they were behaving around him.
’’Leave it, leave it. It’s already enough,’’ Lin said when Berry added more pens beside a dairy and Corrine leaned more on her seat, waiting.
Berry moved to stand beside Lin, her pencil heels clicking against the floor. Her polished nails picked up all invisible dust on her dress and she flicked her long dark hair over her shoulder. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
When he entered, it felt like all light and joy came along with him.
Her lips parted.
Her eyes flickered briefly as his tall figure made it through the door.
Time moved at a slower pace.
Her breath caught in her throat as she stared without being aware of it.
He was beautiful.
Corrine couldn’t look away for a while.
One little part of her echoed rhythmically at the sight of his smile. Berry happily popped the confetti and they all said in a loud voice.
’’Welcome to Winfield Entertainment, Grim!!!’’
It was then Corrine realized...

His warm brown gaze swept about as they clapped and cheered for him. It was one unlike any other.
It was louder than the ones the demons gave him each time he was called to appear before the King Of Hell and there was something else about this welcome he couldn’t put into words.
It made him feel lighter, welcome and accepted. He looked around the room, struck by how genuine their smiles were.
And for the first time in his life, he was this close to believing that he could be loved.

’’Yayyy!!!’’ Berry cheered non stop as they clapped and appreciated him. ’’You did it Grim!’’ fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
He eased into another smile, particularly interested in this human that seemed to care about him the most.
Suddenly, he was pulled from the entrance and taken to a corner neatly arranged with a chair and a table. He noticed the weirdly inflated overweight creatures tied together neatly and bound to the corners of the table and the chair behind. They ushered him into the chair before another popping sound echoed and they cheered him on again.
He never knew working could be this fun and special.
He stared down at his hand, hair and dress covered in these tiny, colorful wrappers as they cheered non stop. The chair was comfortable, as though it had been made specifically for him.
He arched one of his perfectly shaped eyebrows in amusement at his desk. Everything had been set up and cleaned. There was a little welcome card placed beside a tiny wrapped gift box. His long fingers moved over the smooth surface, trailing the edges and he found himself smiling again.
He never imagined something this small and not flashy could be this meaningful to him.
He was about to pick up the cute boxed gift when they stopped him and urged him to read the card first.
He flipped the card open and read each line of the contents that looked to have been written in three distinct handwriting styles.
Dear Grim (Berry)
You have no idea how much this day means to us. (Stylie)
We only hope we could do more than what you have done for us. (Berry)
But the best thing ever is to have you working here with us and being our wealthy friend. (Stylie)
We couldn’t afford a 2-carat diamond ring like yours, (Lin)
But we only hope this gift will be special to you—somehow (Berry)
Like you have been special to us. (Stylie)
From your work/ best buddies; Lin, Berry, Stylie and Boss
To Our Beloved New Intern, Grim.
A tear dropped staining the card as he moved to open the gift. It was easy to unwrap. A dark box revealed itself and Grim opened it to stare at a shiny new, duplicate Rolex watch.
He stared at the gift for a long moment and his friends were worried he might be disappointed in the gift.
Berry said quickly.
’’W–we are sorry it’s not a real Rolex. We promise to give you one as soon as we raise enough money to afford one.’’
But Grim didn’t mind. He suddenly preferred the one made with love and quickly replaced it with the original. This made Berry, Lin and Stylie exchange quick looks of happiness as he immediately strapped the watch around his left wrist. He rolled back his sleeve and held out his wrist for everyone to admire.
Berry wanted to cry as they cheered him on.
’’Well, since you have a better one now, mind I take this one instead—’’ Stylie slapped Lin’s hand away from the original, earning severe looks of disbelief from his two co-workers.
Lin couldn’t understand why they were glaring at him until three solid knocks interrupted their get together. They all turned around and suddenly they remembered they had a Boss.
Her gaze sharper than a razor as she pointed at the four of them, daring each of them not to be in her office before they took their next breath.
