Chapter 123: Chapter 123

Ethan’s POV

After Luna Catherine walked away from me like she had just dropped a bomb in my life and did not care about the damage, I stood there for a few seconds trying to calm my breathing.

My hands were clenched into fists and my mind was running fast.

That woman knew too much. Far too much.

But right now that was not my biggest problem.

Riley was.

I needed to find her before the Alphas did something stupid with her.

Or worse, before they convinced her to stay here permanently.

The thought alone made anger twist inside my chest.

No.

Riley was not staying here.

She was coming back with me.

I turned away from the Alpha chambers and started walking quickly down the hall.

Then faster. Then even faster.

Soon I was moving through the pack house like a man searching for something he could not afford to lose.

I checked every hallway. Every open room. Every corner.

But Riley was nowhere.

My frustration kept growing.

"Where the hell are you?" I muttered under my breath. freewebnoveℓ.com

Several servants walked past me looking nervous.

Some warriors were standing together talking quietly.

Everyone seemed tense. But none of them had Riley with them.

I turned down another long hallway.

Still nothing.

I rubbed my forehead in irritation."This is ridiculous," I muttered.

Then I spotted a group of guards standing near the end of the corridor.

Four of them were talking quietly with each other.

Perfect.

I walked straight toward them.

"Hey," I called.

The guards turned immediately.

When they saw me their expressions became cautious.

I stopped a few feet away from them.

"Where are the Alphas?" I asked directly.

The guards glanced at each other. None of them answered immediately.

My patience thinned instantly."I asked a question," I said coldly.

One of the guards cleared his throat."We do not know where they are right now."

That answer annoyed me."Then go find out," I said sharply.

But instead of responding they simply began walking away like the conversation was over.

My anger flared."Hey!"

I stepped forward and blocked their path.

"Do not walk away from me when I am talking to you."

They stopped reluctantly.

Then I looked at them more closely.

"Something happened here today," I said slowly."This entire place feels like a funeral."

None of them spoke. So I leaned closer slightly.

"What went wrong?"

The guards exchanged looks again.

Finally one of them sighed quietly.

"It would be better if you did not see the Alphas right now," he said carefully.

My eyes narrowed."And why is that?"

He hesitated. Then he dropped the news that made my brain freeze.

"Alpha Gunnar killed Sapphire today."

For a moment the hallway felt silent. My mind struggled to process the words.

"Sapphire?" I repeated slowly.

The guard nodded."Yes."

"The King’s mistress."

My eyes widened slightly.

Wait. What?

"Gunnar killed his father’s mistress?" I said in disbelief.

The guard shrugged slightly."That is what everyone is saying."

Then he looked uncomfortable.

"Trust me when I say this is not the best time to go looking for them."

Another guard added quietly."They might not be in their sanest state right now."

Then the group began walking away again.

This time I did not stop them.

I simply stood there trying to process what I had just heard.

What the hell was happening in this pack?

Gunnar murdering the King’s mistress was not a small issue. ƒreewebɳovel.com

That was the kind of thing that could start a war inside a pack.

I rubbed my face slowly."Fuck," I muttered.

But the news did not change my plan.

If anything it made things easier.

Because chaos always created opportunities like I said before.

And right now this entire pack was drowning in chaos.

I took a slow breath. Then I closed my eyes.

If I wanted to find Riley quickly there was only one way.

My wolf.

I had not let him out for a while.

I relaxed slightly and let my mind sink deeper.

Immediately I felt him stir.

The familiar dark presence inside me rose slowly.

"You finally need me," he growled inside my mind.

I ignored the sarcasm.

"I need Riley’s scent, track it and lead me to it" I told him.

"Find her."

My wolf chuckled darkly. Always the same obsession.

"Just fucking track her."

He pushed forward slightly and my senses sharpened immediately.

Every smell in the hallway became stronger.

I could smell the stone walls. The sweat of passing warriors. The faint scent of blood somewhere far away.

But then...

There it was.

Riley.

Her scent hit my nose instantly. Soft. Warm. Familiar.

My eyes opened. A slow smile spread across my face. "Found you."

I began following the scent immediately.

The trail moved deeper into the pack house.

Past the normal halls. Past the main living areas. Past places I had already seen before.

But then the scent continued somewhere new.

Somewhere darker. The deeper parts of the pack chambers.

I frowned slightly as I followed it. I had never been in this section before.

The entire place felt hidden like a secret.

My wolf growled softly inside my mind.

I kept walking. Step by step. Following the scent.

Until finally I reached a large door at the end of the hallway.

The scent stopped there.

My heart beat faster.

She was definitely inside there.

I stepped closer to the door and pressed my ear against it.

For a moment I heard nothing.

Only silence.

My brows pulled together. Then I focused harder.

My wolf senses sharpened again. And suddenly...

I heard it.

Grunts. Low groans, and heavy breathing.

But there was something else too.

Soft moans.

My body froze. My mind went completely blank for a second.

Then rage exploded inside my chest."What the hell?"

My hands clenched into fists."They would not dare."

My wolf growled violently inside my head."They are touching her."

That thought pushed me over the edge.

"Do they think they can have their way with my woman?"

My anger became uncontrollable. I stepped back and kicked the door hard.

The loud bang echoed through the hallway.

But the door did not move.

I kicked it again. And again.

Still nothing.

"Open the damn door!" I shouted.

But nobody answered.

My rage only grew stronger."Bastards!"

I kicked the door repeatedly. But it would not break. The door was reinforced.

I stepped back breathing heavily. Then my wolf pushed forward again.

Using my strength now, a dark grin spread across my face.

I positioned myself in front of the door.

Then I let my wolf power surge through my body.

My muscles tightened. My strength increased instantly.

I took a deep breath. Then I slammed my shoulder into the door with everything I had.

The door cracked loudly. But it still held.

"Not enough," my wolf growled.

I stepped back again. Then I rushed forward once more.

This time I put every bit of strength I had into the impact and the door exploded open and the wood shattered.

The heavy door flew off its hinges and slammed violently against the wall.

I stepped into the room immediately.

My chest rising and falling with rage.

And the scene in front of me was devastatingly maddening~
