Chapter 107: Chapter 107

Caden’s POV

My fist hangs in the air the moment that voice echoes through the room.

"NO, CADEN! DON’T DO IT!"

Everything inside me freezes. For a second my brain refuses to process what I just heard.

Slowly, I turn my head toward the doorway.

And when I see who is standing there, my entire body goes still.

"...Mother?"

She is standing there. Right there in the doorway like nothing strange is happening.

Helena.

The Luna of this pack.

My mother.

For eight whole years she has not stepped outside her chambers.

Eight years.

The entire pack believes she lost her mind after what happened back then.

They call her mad. They whisper about her behind closed doors.

But I always knew she was not insane. Still... even knowing that, I never expected this, never expected her to step out into the open for the first time.

She walks into the room slowly.

Her posture is straight and calm and her eyes are sharp like they used to be years ago.

I realize something then.

I am still standing over Sebastian with my fist raised.

Without even realizing it, my hand slowly drops back down.

Sebastian is still beneath me in his wolf form, breathing heavily after our fight.

I step back slightly, my eyes still fixed on my mother.

"Mother..." I call again quietly.

For a moment I forget everything else.

The fight.

The anger.

The poison.

Everything.

I am too shocked seeing her here.

Sebastian quickly shifts back into his human form now that I have stepped away from him.

I barely notice.

My attention is completely on her.

I start walking toward her slowly."Mother what are you—"

But before I can finish the sentence, something slams hard into my back.

The force knocks the air out of my lungs.

"Damn it!"

I stumble forward and quickly turn around.

Sebastian has attacked me from behind.

His fist is already coming toward my face again.

Rage flares up instantly inside me."Seriously?" I snap.

I raise my arm to strike back.

But before either of us can move again, someone suddenly steps between us.

It is her.

My mother.

She stands right in the middle between us.

Her hand is raised toward Sebastian and her voice comes out sharp and commanding.

"Stop it, Sebastian."

Both of us freeze.

Her eyes lock onto his."Have respect for your Luna."

The tone in her voice is different.

It is not weak. It is not confused.

It is the same powerful tone she used to have years ago.

The voice of the Luna.

Even Sebastian recognizes it.

I see it immediately in the way his body goes still.

He stares at her for a long moment.

Then he slowly steps back. And suddenly he laughs.

A low mocking laugh."Well well," he says while wiping blood from his mouth.

"So you are still alive, Helena."

His voice is full of sarcasm.

My mother smiles calmly. The kind of smile that makes people uncomfortable.

"You thought I would stay mad forever, didn’t you?" she replies.

Sebastian’s expression darkens slightly.

My mother continues speaking.

"You thought that would give you enough time to ruin the pack."

She takes a slow step forward."With your mistress."

Sebastian’s jaw tightens immediately.

"And that little thing between your legs Alpha Sebastian."

The room goes silent. Sebastian’s fists clench tightly at his sides. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

His face is burning with anger now."Watch your mouth," he growls.

My mother does not even look bothered.

Instead she tilts her head slightly and continues smiling. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

"You really believed I would never come out of that room again."

Sebastian curses under his breath.

Then he turns away angrily. "This conversation is pointless."

Without another word he storms toward the door.

The moment he passes me I can feel the tension rolling off him like heat.

Then he leaves the room. The door slams loudly behind him.

For a moment the room is silent.

I turn back toward my mother. Before I can say anything—

SLAP!

The sound echoes loudly across the room.

My head snaps to the side from the force of the hit.

I stare at her in shock.

She has never done that before.

Not once.

In my entire life.

My hand slowly touches my cheek."Mother...?"

Her expression is furious now."Are you crazy?" she snaps.

Her voice is loud and sharp."Did you want to kill your father?"

I blink at her in disbelief."He poisoned Summer—"

"Silence!" she interrupts immediately.

Her voice becomes even stronger."He is still the Alpha of this fucking pack!"

Her words hit hard.

"Until he steps down from that position, you do not have the right to kill him."

Her eyes are blazing now."And even if he does step down, you still cannot take his life just because you feel like it."

My jaw tightens again."But he—"

"Let the Goddess decide his fate," she continues firmly.

Her finger points toward my chest."Do you want to get yourself into trouble?"

I say nothing."Do you want the council to bind your wolf?" she asks harshly.

That makes my stomach twist.

Binding a wolf is the worst punishment the council can give.

A wolf that is bound can never shift again.

Never use its strength.

Never truly live as a wolf again.

I lower my gaze slightly."Sorry," I mutter quietly.

The apology barely leaves my mouth. But then the anger rises again.

"He poisoned Gunnar’s child," I say through clenched teeth.

My mother suddenly smiles. The reaction confuses me immediately.

"It was not Sebastian," she says calmly.

I blink."What?"

She turns around and starts walking toward the doorway.

For a second I just stand there staring at her.

Then I quickly follow after her."What do you mean it wasn’t him?" I ask.

She continues walking down the hallway.

Her steps are slow and steady."There are things you do not understand yet," she says.

My brows pull together."Then explain them."

She glances at me briefly."Have you ever heard how witches operate?" she asks.

My confusion grows."Witches?"

"Yes."

I shake my head."What does that have to do with anything?"

She keeps walking."Witches can move unseen."

I stare at her."They can enter places without being noticed."

My mind starts trying to piece together what she is saying.

"They can poison food and vanish without leaving a trace."

I stop walking for a second. Then I speak again. "But there are no witches in this chamber."

She stops walking too. Then she slowly turns around and looks directly at me.

Her eyes are calm.

"There is one."

My confusion grows even more."What are you talking about?"

She smiles slightly. Then she says the words that make my entire body go cold.

"Sapphire is one."

My eyes widened.

My mother’s voice becomes very quiet."And she is the one who poisoned Summer and framed Sebastian for it."
