Chapter 34: Chapter 34: That Guy Is Mine to Bully
The homeowner stared at the message, and a flash of inspiration suddenly struck.
She let out a vicious laugh. "I know who you are! You’re Yue Hua and her Hero, right? Hahahaha, I figured it out! No wonder you’re so invested. So that’s what this is all about! I’m not telling you anything. You’d better change me back, and fast. Or else..."
"So noisy."
A swift kick landed in her stomach. Duan Fei watched her curl up like a shrimp, feeling not a shred of sympathy.
After all, based on the woman’s own confession, her behavior back in school was even worse than it was now. It made Duan Fei wonder if she just existed to be a punching bag.
He kicked her again and again. "Oh? A Hero, you say? The Holy Grail War?" Duan Fei scoffed as he continued his assault. "You even brought up the Magician Protection Act? That’s hilarious. Why don’t you call them to come protect you now?"
"Don’t you go too far!"
The homeowner raised her hand. What little Magic Power she had began to coalesce as a magic circuit formed within her. But before it could finish, Duan Fei grabbed his phone and brought it down hard on her fingers. She shrieked, clutching her now-swollen hand.
Pinning her fingers under his foot, Duan Fei asked again, "I’ll ask you one more time. Who’s the boss, and who’s your Hero?"
"I don’t know who the boss is!" the homeowner sobbed. "All I know is that the boss told me to get Yue Hua into the Holy Grail War, and he’d give me a pile of money. My Hero’s name is Jianghu Little Ball. I heard he’s a reconnaissance-type, but he was taken away right after he was summoned. I really don’t know anything else!"
"Let’s just assume you’re not lying for now. Yue Hua, what do you think we should do with her?"
Yue Hua crouched down to look at the woman.
The homeowner couldn’t meet Yue Hua’s gaze and quickly averted her eyes, blurting out, "I know I hid a lot from you, and I know I shouldn’t have thrown you into the Holy Grail War without telling you anything. But I... I wanted the money! My idol has a new release, and I need to buy his albums to get him to the top of the charts!"
"Diehard fans are terrifying," Duan Fei remarked with a sigh.
"The Master is right!" Yan Yuan chimed in, raising a hand.
Yue Hua’s expression remained neutral. She simply took the phone from Duan Fei and logged into various social media accounts.
After a quick check, right in front of the homeowner, she disbanded all the fan groups the woman had created. Then, she posted a new status: "What a trash idol. I’m tired. Over it."
"No! Why? How could you be so cruel!"
"Listen to you talk. You’re the one who started this," Yue Hua said, patting the woman’s cheek with a perfect smile. "I’m just making us even."
Taking the phone back, Duan Fei switched to his chat with the boss. He angled the phone, snapped a picture of the miserable homeowner, and sent it.
"Boss, bad news! Yue Hua and her Hero are here to kill us!"
"..."
"Her Hero is a ferocious monster, and he even brought a bizarre, savage beast with him!"
He snapped a picture of Yan Yuan and sent that to the boss, too.
"And also..."
Just then, the call connected. A middle-aged man’s voice came from the other end. "Alright, Duan Fei, that’s enough. Stop messing around."
Glancing around, Duan Fei quickly ducked into a hidden corner before asking, "How did you know it was me?"
"We have our own ways of seeing you. You’re quite something. I never expected we’d fail to get rid of you so many times. I thought you were just some useless Hero."
"Then you must be pretty trash yourself, if you can’t even get rid of one useless Hero."
"...You son of a bitch!"
"In my experience, insults are the last resort of the incompetent. Looks like you’re out of trump cards."
"...Name your price. What will it take for you to hand Yue Hua over to me?"
"What do you want with her anyway?"
"That’s none of your business. I just need a yes or a no."
"In that case, I have to ask: what can you give me?"
While chatting with the boss, Duan Fei made a gesture to Yue Hua. She understood and nodded.
Beside them, Yan Yuan rested a wing on Yue Hua’s shoulder. Its Magic Power began to flow into her, helping her construct a magic circuit to cast a tracking spell.
According to the principles of magic, the more Magic Power is infused into a spell, the more powerful it becomes.
Now, boosted by the external Magic Power from Yan Yuan, Yue Hua’s tracking magic was pushed to its absolute limit. The simple magical construct became so extravagant that even its glowing visual effects were formed from pure Magic Power, making the spell’s effect more terrifying than ever before.
Once the magic circuit was complete, the spell’s effect was unleashed, and the location of the boss on the other end of the line was pinpointed.
Realizing he was being tracked, the boss cursed, "Shit!" then bellowed, "Cuihua, kill them!"
The roof suddenly shattered. Cuihua, wielding two Baguettes, dropped from the sky, bringing them down toward Duan Fei’s head.
Cuihua’s face was numb and his eyes were black-ringed. He looked more like a ghost than a person. He had most likely been hit with some mind-controlling magic that had robbed him of his sanity, causing him to turn on his own allies.
Empowered by his Cook Profession bonus, the two Baguettes in his hands glowed faintly in the dark. He swung them at Duan Fei’s head like divine weapons, intent on splitting it open like a watermelon.
In the nick of time, Yan Yuan acted.
Giving up so much Magic Power had already brought it to the brink of bodily collapse.
But it still raised its arms, using its own body to intercept Cuihua’s full-force blow.
With a sound like a popping balloon, Yan Yuan’s entire arm exploded.
With its last ounce of strength, it flung Duan Fei and Yue Hua away. Then it turned to the re-postured Cuihua and yelled, "Come on! Let’s keep going!"
"Yan Yuan, I’ll never forget you!" Duan Fei yelled as he flew through the air, propelled by Yan Yuan’s remaining Magic Power.
’No need to yell. I’m already back.’
Staring at his Biological Culture Medium, Duan Fei asked resignedly, "Did you even last five seconds?"
’The quality of life is measured by its breadth, not its length.’
"Your breadth isn’t up to snuff, either!"
’Before you roast me, you might want to look behind you! That maniac is coming!’
Duan Fei whipped his head around. He saw Cuihua, still holding two Baguettes, sprinting furiously along the ground below, relentlessly chasing them through the air. He wouldn’t stop until he caught them.
"This is bad."
’Master, quick, use that invincible brain of yours and think of something!’
"There’s basically nothing I can do! Your new body is still on cooldown, I don’t have any special Skills, and this good-for-nothing Yue Hua passed out after casting a single spell. We’re out of options."
Just as Duan Fei was thinking that the moment they landed would be the moment he died, an androgynous, fairy-like player happened to look up and see him in the air.
In that moment, she couldn’t help but let out a small gasp. "Who is that?! He’s as beautiful as an Angel! Even flying backward so awkwardly, he still looks incredibly cool."
Then, she clutched her chest and said, "Oh, it’s just my childhood friend. Never mind, then."
"Young Master Jinghong, you seem to really like that guy," Zhao Baimao said.
Jinghong shot Zhao Baimao a cold glance. "If you don’t know how to speak, you can just be a mute. And if you can’t manage that, I can help you."
Zhao Baimao instantly shut up.
Cracking her knuckles, Jinghong charged toward the spot where Duan Fei was about to land. "But make one thing clear," she said to Zhao Baimao, "My childhood friend is mine, and mine alone, to bully!"
