Chapter 11: Domain³

I looked at Uncle Amyas with annoyance and frustration, but I didn’t say a word to him.

Let’s try again.

In fact, although this seems pointless, I’ve actually already acquired two abilities simply by entering the domain, so even if I can’t grasp the concept of my domain for forging weapons or crafting artefacts,

simply exposing my body, mind and spirit to the domain could still give me something

Like the little Evelyne, who acquired two passive abilities immediately upon entering her domain without even doing anything, and then Uncle Amyas forced her to leave straight away because if she’d stayed there she might have acquired more passive abilities. But the problem is that the concept of of her domain and these abilities are appalling and don’t fit with our brutal world.

So since then, she has been strictly forbidden from entering her domain.

As for me, although I didn’t acquire any passive abilities – and, by the way, this is considered a blessing, as little good ever comes from passive abilities.

But simply being in the domain or doing something within it means you might acquire an ability or skill

Although I don’t remember it well, the two abilities I acquired—though they aren’t Passive abilities—I did indeed gain them simply by entering my domain.

The first ability I acquired on my first entry ten years ago—the Collapse of the Stars—, which allows me to shatter the area and make it devour itself

Oh, and to clarify, although entry into the Realm usually occurs at the age of ten, this doesn’t mean it’s impossible before then, because the domain is part of a person’s very being and is with them from birth; indeed, some theories almost prove that a foetus possesses a domain, to the extent that some mad noble families have actually begun engaging in research and human experiments.

However, although you may find yourself in the domain before the age of ten, this does not mean it is common or even safe, because if you are lucky, the domain will simply expel you the moment it detects you; if not, it will attack you immediately to kill. And because when you enter the domain, you enter it physically, this simply means you’ll turn into flower fertiliser in your Realm... freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

My second ability – the Law of Chaos – I acquired at roughly the same time, but after returning home, because at that time I wanted to commit suicide using the domain after failing to do so on the reality. However, I ended up gaining an ability and returning home once more, only to be told off.

But I stopped because a question popped into my head:

I looked at my uncle, hesitating to ask, but once again, as a wise man, I didn’t want to drown in unnecessary doubt, so I asked him immediately, hoping for an answer far removed from the subject I’d rather die than delve into.

"How did I manage to acquire both abilities without dying?"

He paused for a moment, clearly annoyed by my question, to the point where I considered asking him to stop, but he spoke before I could

"Because Her Highness the Duchess helped you back then."

I felt a chill run through my body and stood silently, without a word, because I didn’t dare say anything.

Although I was bold in front of the Duke, I really don’t like talking about what happened back then, especially when others bring it up to me...

"Her Highness’s domain was of the protective kind, so the first time you entered the domain, Her Highness the Duchess was still alive and protected you herself. As for the second time, Her Highness left a mark on you to protect you in case you entered the domain and there was no one around you... In fact, you still possess the mark and can enter the domain yourself four more times without dying, thanks to the mark. However, it is best to use it for times when you might actually need the mark, for the domain has far greater uses than simply playing in it to obtain weapons and abilities. Secondly, the reason you weren’t greatly affected back then was because you were under ten years old and hadn’t yet activated the Realm using the Key. So you were like a thief who’d sneaked into the house through the window whilst the owner was asleep, and then your guardian came and dragged you out in a hurry, but you managed to take something useful with you as she was pulling you out... Now let’s focus on trying to get your weapon."

Although I wanted to discuss the matter, I didn’t have the courage to talk about those days.

Let’s just leave it at that. This really is my home and they are my family. Even though I’m the outcast child, they’ve always protected me whenever necessary, as I’m a direct descendant of Askelund. So I see no reason to dig up that ugly past just to satisfy my curiosity about some strange things that happened back then.

And just saying those simple words made me feel truly sad and frustrated with myself... Ahhh, let’s just forget about it.

And as you can see, I haven’t really been into my domain for years; the last time I did so was about four or five years ago, and I gave up after the first attempt and didn’t think of visiting that dreadful place again

For a while, I didn’t really mind because I found in this torture a way to clear my thoughts and forget the past, so I didn’t complain and continued to follow my uncle’s instructions calmly

I vomited; I felt my insides protesting and demanding to leave my body
