Chapter 10: Domain²

To understand the reason for my misery, you must first understand the concept of power in my world

It’s not complicated. In this world, everyone is born with the ability to access an external dimension called the «Realm» or «domain» —Call it what you like

And at the age of ten, you will receive the key to your domain, and then you will be able to interact with the Realm, enter it, and even invite others—but only with the other party’s consent.

In any case, this is the essence of any person’s power. What is required of you in this world is to understand the concepts and laws; the more you do so, the greater your control over the Realm becomes, and the more you will be able to weave abilities, forge weapons, or create artefacts that you can use in the real world.

So, to put it simply, you can describe the Realm as a workshop where you create and acquire your abilities and power according to your intelligence, your ability to interact with the Realm, and, of course, the nature of the domain itself.

And you can actually tell that from my reaction; I wasn’t the most talented person in dealing with the domain

No... actually, it wasn’t about talent... the thing is, I just hated my domain; it’s a strange place that makes me feel dizzy and gives me a headache. If that old man hadn’t forced me to enter it, I wouldn’t have visited it a second time after the first.

And so I arrived at the private training hall and sat down on the chair, feeling annoyed

and... you must also understand that having a guide whilst using the domain is essential for some people like me, Evelyne, Cassian and Lucien; if there were no supervisor to help us, I doubt we could survive there for even a single second

So without Amyas’s presence, the four of us are completely barred from using our domain

And as you can see, as a family suffer from trust issues; naturally, they wouldn’t have asked us for a verbal promise, especially not Lucien, who’s so reckless

So our domain has been sealed off, and we can’t access it without permission from uncle Amyas or the Duke.

Here’s a bit of background: our situation isn’t unusual. It’s well known that the domain is a dangerous and terrifying place, so most people who can’t get strong protection or a good guide never dare to consider entering their domains unless they are completely desperate or lucky, like my eldest sister Seraphine, whose Domain consists of a huge library with absolutely no danger whatsoever, or the Duke, whose domain is a courtroom devoid of any danger.

Hah... some people have incredible luck.

The dreadful silence of the hall was broken by the entrance of Uncle Amyas, who stepped forward and stood in the middle of the hall, looking at me, but I looked away, frowning, clearly expressing my refusal.

"Come now, though I don’t understand why you’re so set on going to Vhaldr, if we manage to get something good from your domain—if you can get even a glimpse of your weapon—I promise I’ll support your going to Vhaldr at the Council of Elders tomorrow morning."

I looked at him hesitantly. He might be rude, a liar and a scoundrel, but well... strangely enough, this man wasn’t the sort to break his promises.

Even so, it still wasn’t worth it.

Just because he would support my wish in the council didn’t mean the others would agree.

He seemed to sense my dissatisfaction, so he continued.

"How about this: I’ll persuade His Grace the Duke."

"Will you?"

"I promise, but on one condition: you must give me a glimpse of your weapon—at least its type. You’re not planning to go into battle with that scrap of metal in your hand, are you?"

Although I hated him saying that, he was right. After all, it’s clear that my weapon isn’t a sword. Although I’ve tried out many traditional weapons, I haven’t felt any connection to them.

And given my domain , it’s certain that my talent really is for combat, so there’s no point in trying to look elsewhere.

Even my choice of the sword ended up being random until I found my true weapon.

Despite my hesitation, I eventually stood up and stood before him.

He placed his hand on my chest, holding a red stone.

The engravings of the chains encircling my body began to stir and moved towards the stone, which absorbed them completely.

"You can start," he said as soon as he was done, stowing the stone away.

He placed his hand on my shoulder, so I closed my eyes and chanted

"O Space of Chaos, answer your master and open the door to his guest."

I know it sounds silly and embarrassing, but there’s nothing we can do about it.

Although entering the realm alone does not usually require any chanting, it is important to do so if you wish to bring in another person; it is like granting permission to others to intrude upon your inner world

The moment I opened my eyes again, I felt dizzy and nauseous and started vomiting as I fell, but my uncle caught me,

This Because... there is literally no logic to this place; it simply cannot be described because I literally cannot understand anything that is happening here or what this place is

"Pull yourself together,"

he said, but I couldn’t pay him any attention, because my mind could no longer bear the pressure of the chaos in this place.

"I... G... ..."

But before I could speak, I felt a sharp pain in my body and didn’t even understand what had attacked me, but that thing had already been dealt with. Yet for a moment, I felt as though my body was about to explode into a bloody dust cloud.

"LARS... snoɔoɟ os ’ǝɹǝɥ ɯ,I sɐ ɓuol sɐ noʎ ɯɹɐɥ llᴉʍ ƃuᴉɥʇou ’ʇɥƃᴉɹ llɐ s’ʇI." frёeωebɳovel.com

Although I could hear exactly what he was saying, and although I know he’s speaking the Imperial language with a northern accent, ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

I couldn’t really grasp what he was saying

Even though I know that since we entered, I’ve certainly been in danger more than a thousand times, and that’s also one of the reasons I can’t concentrate, because although my uncle is shielding me from the attack, there’s still something in this place that can reach beyond uncle’s perception

I vomited again and screamed because of the build-up of something incomprehensible that I didn’t even understand

and I cut my connection to the domain immediately as soon as I could muster enough sense to do so

Then I fell to the ground, gasping for breath, and vomited on the floor, and I almost collapsed on top of my own vomit, but uncle’s hand grabbed me and pulled me up

He sat me down on the floor, then took a towel and began wiping my face, neck and hands.

"Calm down... Right, everything’s fine. Well done, you managed to hold out this time for a full twenty seconds."

I wanted to curse, but instead of words, a gasp escaped my lips.

It wasn’t that I’d held out or anything... I didn’t even have the strength to think about running away, and that bastard...

"Lars... it’s all right, have a rest now. We’ll continue later."

That was the last thing I heard before everything turned to pitch black.

Fuck you old man... and your whole bloody family...
