Chapter 1468: Chapter 209 - Demon Who Lurks At Night (1)

I woke up feeling a little stiff.

Despite the fact that I had slept surprisingly well and honestly slept like a baby throughout the entire night, my body still felt somewhat sore when I finally opened my eyes. It wasn’t anything serious, but there was definitely a noticeable stiffness in my shoulders and back.

Then again, that was probably to be expected.

No matter how comfortable a sleeping bag was, sleeping on the floor was still sleeping on the floor. The ground didn’t exactly care about your comfort. It just sat there being hard and inconvenient.

So while my mind felt refreshed, my body seemed to have a few complaints about the arrangement.

Letting out a quiet breath, I slowly rolled over.

The first thing I saw was Foriel.

She was already awake.

Not only was she awake, but she had already started getting dressed.

Her dress wasn’t fully on yet, and as she moved around, I could see her body shifting naturally with every motion. Even from where I was lying down, I could still see her nipples through the angle I was looking from, and her breasts bounced lightly as she adjusted her clothing.

Honestly, I had never really understood how it worked.

Foriel had an incredibly good body.

She was quite thin overall, yet somehow that only made certain parts stand out more.

Her chest was undeniably large, while the rest of her frame remained slender and graceful. She didn’t really have much of a butt compared to some women I’d met, but honestly, there wasn’t anything wrong with that.

Not every woman needed to be built exactly the same way.

Foriel looked good simply because she was Foriel.

My gaze drifted upward slightly as I continued looking at her.

She had a surprisingly long neck.

Actually, calling it long wasn’t really the strange part.

It was how thin it looked.

The thing looked so slender that the first thought that popped into my head was that it might snap if somebody touched it too hard.

Of course, I didn’t actually think that was possible.

I wasn’t an idiot.

Necks didn’t just break because somebody poked them.

Still, looking at it gave off that sort of impression.

It looked delicate.

Fragile,even.

Like something that needed to be handled carefully.

The logical part of my brain knew perfectly well that it wasn’t going to suddenly break for no reason.

But another part of me couldn’t help thinking about it anyway.

Maybe I was just overthinking things first thing in the morning.

That was probably it.

A moment later, I noticed Foriel glance toward me.

Fortunately, by then, my eyes had already shifted away.

No need to get caught staring this early in the morning.

That would have been awkward.

Actually, considering how observant she was, there was a decent chance she already knew anyway.

I chose not to think about that possibility.

Closing my eyes for a brief moment, I relaxed and allowed myself to enjoy the quiet atmosphere.

The morning felt peaceful.

There weren’t any monsters trying to kill us.

Nobody was screaming.

Nothing was exploding.

Honestly, by adventure standards, that was practically luxury.

I rested my mind for a short while before finally pushing myself upright.

My sleeping bag crinkled as I sat up.

After stretching my arms and rolling my shoulders a few times, I climbed to my feet.

The stiffness was still there, but it wasn’t anything unbearable.

Foriel turned toward me when she noticed I was awake.

"Did you sleep well, Mr. Faust?"

I nodded.

"Yup. Honestly, I slept like a baby."

"That is good to hear."

She smiled softly before continuing.

"A proper night’s rest will be quite important, considering that we still have a long journey ahead of us."

I listened while she spoke.

"The next town is still rather far away. Reaching it will likely take us at least one or two weeks depending on the road conditions and any problems we encounter along the way."

That was certainly not a short trip.

"We can rest inside the carriage when necessary," she continued. "However, monsters are common throughout these regions, so we cannot afford to lower our guard completely. Even while traveling, we must remain alert enough to protect ourselves should something happen."

That was fair.

The demon continent wasn’t exactly known for being safe.

Especially not outside major settlements.

"My next destination also happens to be located in the direction you wish to travel, Mr. Faust. Fortunately, it appears that the two of us are headed the same way."

Well, that definitely simplified things. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

There was no reason for either of us to split up if we were already going to the same place.

"Before we depart, shall we prepare some food? It would be best to eat before we begin today’s travel."

I shrugged.

"Well, let’s go with that then."

There wasn’t really any reason to disagree.

Food was important.

My stomach would probably start filing complaints if I ignored it for too long.

And unlike monsters, hunger was a problem that never seemed willing to take a day off.

For now, getting breakfast prepared was probably the smartest thing we could do.

Traveling while hungry was rarely a good idea.

Personally, I didn’t have much doubt about my own chances of survival.

If something attacked us, I was fairly confident I could handle it.

Foriel was the only question mark.

At least, that was what I initially thought.

Then again, she had already told me that she had experience traveling through dangerous regions.

She didn’t strike me as the sort of person who exaggerated her abilities either.

If she said she could survive out here, then she probably could.

Thinking about that reminded me of something else.

Something I’d wanted to ask her.

I looked toward her.

"Before we do that, are you finally going to tell me the real reason you’re doing all this?"

Foriel blinked once.

"Oh?"

A small smile appeared on her face.

"I thought our conversation last night had already ended. It seems you’re still interested in that subject."

"Considering everything that almost happened last night, I think it’s pretty normal for me to still be interested, don’t you?"

"I suppose that is true."

The smile remained on her face.

"Although you certainly could have asked me yesterday."

"I could have."

I nodded.

"But honestly, I was pretty tired last night. I don’t think I was in the right state of mind to properly process whatever your motivation was. Since I just woke up and my head’s clearer now, I figured this would be a better time to ask."

That wasn’t entirely true.

Actually, it wasn’t true at all.

I hadn’t been tired.

If anything, I still had plenty of energy left.

Foriel had looked far more exhausted than I had.

Because of that, I figured letting her rest was the better option.

There was no point forcing a serious conversation when she looked like she was about to pass out.

At my answer, Foriel covered her mouth slightly.

"Fufufu..."

A soft chuckle escaped her lips.

"As expected, Mr. Faust, you truly are an interesting man."

I raised an eyebrow.

"That’s one way of putting it."

"It is also the reason so many women have fallen in love with you."

Well.

That was certainly a statement to start the morning with.

I wasn’t entirely sure how I was supposed to respond to that one.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to.

The amusement in her expression slowly faded.

The atmosphere changed.

The smile remained, but it no longer carried the same lighthearted feeling as before.

Foriel’s eyes became serious.

Very serious.

"Very well," she said.

Her voice was calm.

"I shall tell you the full reason."

The air suddenly felt heavier.

My attention focused completely on her.

Foriel raised her gaze and looked directly into my eyes.

For several seconds, neither of us spoke.

Then she finally opened her mouth.

"I want you to kill Satania for me."
