Chapter 717: Our Fireworks

Sheng Yi was still chewing on a crystal bun, and it was obviously delicious, but for some reason, the more she chewed, the less delicious it became.

Just the thought of such a devoted man, who doesn’t belong to her, made the food in her mouth tasteless, and her stomach felt a sinking discomfort.

"Then she must be very happy." She replied sullenly.

"Yiyi."

At this moment, Sheng Yi, feeling incredibly uncomfortable, heard the name ’Yiyi’ called from his mouth, and her emotions became even more complicated: "Dao An, how about you just call me Miss Sheng Yi instead."

The more he called her Yiyi, the deeper she fell, unable to extricate herself.

She thought that by clearly correcting the way he addressed her, he would surely revert to the previous name, but instead, she heard him say: "But I don’t want to call you that."

Sheng Yi became dumbfounded, her cheek bulging slightly, the food in her mouth not yet swallowed.

At this moment, his hand reached over the high bar table, and Sheng Yi didn’t know what he was going to do, instinctively moving sideways. His hand hung in mid-air without further movement, and Sheng Yi glanced at his attractive hand a few more times, her gaze eventually rising to meet his.

Her heart skipped a beat, and his previous words - but I don’t want to call you that - flashed through her mind.

Why?

She couldn’t figure out where to start with the words she had been brewing in her heart.

The atmosphere was somewhat awkward.

Finally, he retracted his hand.

Dao An also realized he was being too hasty.

No rush, feelings need to be confessed eventually.

Yiyi, we have a long way ahead.

...

After breakfast, Sheng Yi wanted to help tidy up, but Dao An didn’t allow her to do any chores. Feeling slightly embarrassed, she rubbed her hands together and then rubbed the sides of her clothes: "If my mom finds out I’m living in someone else’s home, eating without contributing, she’d call me out morning till night."

Dao An had just put on an apron, which was plain black without any logos.

Upon hearing her words, he couldn’t help but smile and asked, "Does Auntie often say that about you now?"

Sheng Yi stood aside, her hands clasped behind her back in a submissive posture. Since he didn’t let her help, she didn’t know where to start, responding to his question: "Yes, my mom has been strict with me since I was young, she’s rather authoritarian, while my dad indulges me and is easy-going."

She chatted casually with him about day-to-day life and family warmth.

He turned around, and Sheng Yi saw his hands covered in white detergent bubbles.

"So, getting through the future mother-in-law is a big hurdle then." As he spoke, he stretched both hands toward her.

Sheng Yi didn’t immediately understand his gesture, but his comment about the mother-in-law being a big hurdle made her cheerful: "My dad said the same thing back then, he mentioned passing my mom’s test wouldn’t be less than fighting a battle like the Battle of Red Cliffs."

Dao An chuckled after hearing this: "Then it seems I need to take this issue seriously."

Sheng Yi didn’t catch the hidden meaning, and seeing his extended arms, asked: "What are you doing?"

He said: "I forgot, can you help me roll up the sleeves?"

Rolling up his sleeves!!

Sheng Yi certainly couldn’t refuse such a request. For him, it was a simple task, but for her, it was a very important affair.

"...Ah, okay." She agreed, her heart racing.

She reached out, trying not to touch his skin.

Thankfully, this was a casual home shirt, unlike the tight-fitting sleeves of a dress shirt, easily rolled up. But she wasn’t sure where the sleeves should be rolled to, so she asked when they reached his forearm: "Is this good?"

The man said: "A bit higher."

"Oh, okay." She obediently and attentively rolled up his sleeves.

He gazed at her crown with focused, affectionate eyes.

Her skull was rather high, and her hair was dense, colored a light brown, with strands hanging across her shoulders and chest, the rest cascading down her back.

Her nose picked up a faint pleasant fragrance, the scent of the shampoo in her hair - a subtle gardenia aroma, bewitching him just like her.

"Is it done?" he asked.

Sheng Yi quickly withdrew her hand: "Yes, it’s done."

Both sleeves were rolled up, beneath the elbow, just above the forearm, positioned well so they wouldn’t easily get wet.

In the process, she had inadvertently brushed against his skin. It was fortunate her head was lowered, as her cheeks surely turned a bit red; to blush while rolling up sleeves would be too embarrassing. If he notices her little crush, she might not even be able to stay temporarily, perhaps if he learns of her feelings, he might avoiding compromising situations or even reconsider returning to the country together with her.
