Chapter 711: Why Are Your Ears So Red?
"Yiyi, what were you saying about loosening just now? Hmm?" The last "hmm" was spoken with a low and irresistible allure.
"I, I... I..."
I stammered several times but couldn’t say a single sentence.
Sheng Yi didn’t realize her unadorned little face had turned completely red, especially her rosy cheeks and tense lips, making her irresistibly tempting.
Sheng Yi was almost in tears.
She didn’t understand how things had turned out this way.
It felt as if, even after trying to do the right thing, she was still being pulled back into chaos!
Dao An looked at the girl about to burst into tears in his arms, his smile deepening.
If I had known this would yield the answers I sought, why did we miss out for so long?
I restrained myself and protected you, nearly losing you.
Thankfully, thankfully.
Tears welled up in Sheng Yi’s eyes, overwhelmed and helpless, thinking they might spill out any second—when suddenly the arm around her waist loosened.
Finally released!
Her chaotic heart also breathed a sigh of relief.
Unexpectedly, she was so weak that when his arm loosened, her legs gave way, and she fell right down.
This time she clearly saw him reach out again, pulling her waist into his embrace, his voice helpless beside her ear: "You’re so reckless, living alone makes people worried."
Sheng Yi nearly choked on her own saliva as she swallowed.
She stared wide-eyed at the man’s face.
His lips carried a slight smile, that smile revealed nothing, yet the words sounded incredibly ambiguous.
Taking advantage of his loosened grip on her waist, she eased out of his arms, still clutching the glass tightly, speaking hesitantly: "I, I’m not like this every day, just occasionally."
Dao An’s gaze fell on the glass she held tightly, her fingertips white from exertion.
He asked, "Is it because I happened to come today, that’s why?"
Sheng Yi wanted to nod but quickly realized she couldn’t. Admitting her reckless state was because of his presence might make him leave immediately.
Though their contact was close just now, she still wanted to stay in the same space with him a while longer.
She shook her head: "No, no." Repeating twice, she continued, "It’s just that I’ve been in a bit of a mood lately, just now, just now too..."
"Just now" referring to her uncontrolled emotions.
...
Coming out of the bedroom, Sheng Yi smelled the faint aroma of food, probably well-packed, so the scent didn’t flood the suite.
Looking over, she saw the shopping bag on the high table, and walked over for a closer look, confirming it was indeed food, she turned to look at the man taking off his jacket.
Her eyes became fixed, unable to move away.
Not a lean waist, nor particularly burly, the kind that looks slim in clothes but substantial without—not fat but muscular, full of tension and allure.
As the suit jacket came off, his biceps stretched the shirt, smooth arm lines radiating strength, she remembered the tight grip when his arm held her waist, the warmth lingering even now.
Today, there was no tie, nor vest, just a white shirt with two buttons undone, pale neck, protruding Adam’s apple, restrained yet captivating.
He placed the jacket on the sofa back, striding towards her.
Almost the moment he turned, Sheng Yi immediately withdrew her gaze.
Her heart continued to race, unable to let go of the water glass, it seemed to be her protective barrier.
"Hungry?"
As he came over, opening the bag on the high table, he asked if she was hungry.
She realized it was past six; truthfully a bit hungry, but she didn’t want to show it: "A little."
The words fell.
He turned back to look at her, Sheng Yi felt tense under his gaze: "What’s wrong?"
He smiled slightly, like a spring breeze: "Then let’s eat."
