Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Rescue Work_1

In the medical office, Veronica directed the riot control team to shackle the last batch of subdued prisoners.

"Captain, should we shackle these two brats as well?" a team member asked her for instructions.

Veronica glanced at the twins lying unconscious on the ground and replied, "Of course, we have to shackle them. They’re the most dangerous ones here, and their hands need to be cuffed behind their backs."

Remembering the recent fight, Veronica still felt a bit shaken.

Despite their young age, the twins fought ruthlessly, aiming for vital points with every move.

If it weren’t for the strength enhancement from her werewolf abilities, she suspected she’d have been taken down like the first guards they attacked. After exchanging a few blows, she too stopped holding back.

All the riot control team members looked at their new captain with respect.

As soon as the alarm sounded, Veronica charged ahead alone, leaving them behind, and no calls could stop her.

They even worried that by the time they arrived, they might need to collect their new captain’s body, but when they reached the scene, they found that Veronica had already knocked down more than half of the prisoners. She had beaten one of the twin assassins until she was foaming at the mouth and was swinging the other one around like a windmill, simultaneously knocking out another prisoner.

Thanks to her leading charge into the enemy’s ranks with a fierce flurry of blows, the remaining prisoners lost their will to fight, and the riot control team members that rushed in controlled all the rioting prisoners with barely any pressure.

"It’s finally over..." Seeing the riot quelled, the prison doctor came out from the examination room, patting his chest.

"There are quite a few casualties. Please take care of the rescues," Veronica motioned to the doctor.

The prison doctor looked at the scene and almost spat out blood: "This many people!?" freewebnovel.cσ๓

A large number of people were strewn across the ground, half of whom were the guards initially attacked by the prisoners, and the other half were prisoners beaten by Veronica. Altogether, there were at least thirty casualties. Rose Iron Prison hadn’t seen a riot of this scale in a long time.

But the situation being what it was, she had no choice but to tough it out.

"Everyone, lend a hand. Let the prisoners be for now; first, we prioritize rescuing the guards. Help check to see who has more serious injuries... Don’t move the casualties carelessly; I’ll handle it," the prison doctor started directing the riot control team members to assist.

Veronica also helped inspect the situation and immediately noticed something amiss: "Doctor, something’s not right over here. Come take a look quickly!"

The prison doctor walked over and gasped.

Several guards were lying on the ground, seemingly conscious, but their bodies were stiff and immobilized, with only their eyes able to move. The skin exposed beneath their torn uniforms had turned a greyish-black in several areas.

"It looks like they can’t speak, and their limbs have become as hard as stone," Veronica reported to the doctor.

"It’s petrification," said the doctor gravely. "Cut their clothing open, be careful not to harm the limbs... if they break, they’ll be maimed. Start by pouring some Holy Water to see."

She instructed the riot control team members to fetch a bottle of Holy Water from the medicine cabinet and pour it onto the petrified skin of the casualties.

The spread of the curse seemed to slow down a bit, but there were no signs of recovery.

"This is troublesome," the doctor said with a dark expression.

The curse of petrification was a capability of some extremely rare magical beasts.

Simple cases of petrification could be cured with Holy Water, but curses from more powerful magical creatures were not so easily lifted.

"What should we do now?" Veronica furrowed her brow as well.

"We can only continue to use Holy Water to delay the process for now and report to the warden immediately. We need to seek help from the Heretical Inquisition Bureau; someone there may know how to deal with this."

The prison doctor could only offer this solution. If the petrification spread to the brain, even if they were to find a way to remove the petrification later, the patient would become a vegetative person without consciousness.

"Alright."

Veronica was just about to leave the infirmary when Aiden stepped in and they ran into each other.

"Officer!" she saluted subconsciously, then quickly reported the situation, "Reporting, officer, there has just been a riot here. The situation is under control, but there are injured that need urgent medical help. Some are affected by the stone petrification curse..."

"Yes, I know," Aiden nodded, "I came for this matter; I’ve brought help."

He snapped his fingers, and the prison guard following him pushed a prisoner into the room.

Prisoner 3340, Meiruki the slave.

"As you can see, because of the trouble you caused, many people were hurt," Aiden glanced at Meiruki, "since you are proficient in pharmacology, come and lend a hand. You should have a way to deal with the petrification curse, right?"

He had known about her from the file on the Gemini assassins and, upon learning that Meiruki was the mastermind behind the riot, had thought that someone in the infirmary might have fallen victim to the Gemini’s stone petrification curse.

So he brought Meiruki over.

Meiruki’s mastery in magic potion studies was profound; her skills could harm as well as heal.

A look of surprise crossed Meiruki’s face, "Warden, even a prisoner like me who wants to kill you must be used?"

"There are plenty of prisoners who want to kill me; you’re not special. The question is, can you save those people?" Aiden’s tone grew more serious.

"There is a way, but aren’t you afraid I might pull something again, warden?" Meiruki narrowed her eyes.

"You’re considered a smart person and normally wouldn’t do such a foolish thing," Aiden replied expressionlessly, "Don’t forget you’ve fallen into my hands. You cause trouble on my turf, and I haven’t settled that score with you yet. If my people suffer any harm today... you should understand the consequences."

Meiruki held his gaze for a moment before looking away, "Fine, get me some paper, I’ll write a prescription."

Aiden turned towards Veronica, "Keep an eye on her. She is the main culprit behind this incident. If she tries anything suspicious, don’t be gentle with her."

"The main culprit..." Veronica looked at Meiruki with a bewildered face, "Her?"

"Yes, her. The group of prisoners in this infirmary acted under her command; she took the opportunity to conspire with other prisoners to escape and came here to try to kill me," Aiden briefly explained the situation, "I’ll explain the details to you later on."

"And you’re alright?" Veronica was shocked.

"Just a minor disturbance, a minor disturbance," Aiden responded, feigning nonchalance.

In fact, despite having advance knowledge that Daili and Asenna would turn against Meiruki, he felt quite nervous when confronting Meiruki in the corridor.

One doesn’t face mortal danger many times in a lifetime, and having been a prison guard for so many years, it was his first time dealing with a riot of such magnitude. Fortunately, his years of experience with dangerous prisoners allowed him to maintain composure on the surface.

That he emerged unscathed from the incident was partly due to Avansa resisting Meiruki’s orders at the critical moment—if Avansa had chosen to side with them, even if Daili and Asenna could’ve caught them unawares, whether he could stand here safe and sound was still uncertain.
