Chapter 509: Chapter 510 Demon Descendant Military Officer_1

"Lieutenant, the testing ground has already been sealed off, and without urgent orders, approaching is strictly prohibited," a guard halted the female officer who was preparing to continue forward at the entrance of the corridor.

"Is that so?" the Lamia disguised as a female officer revealed a cruel smile.

The two guards were momentarily taken aback; they recognized the officer before them, one of the staff responsible for the logistics at the research facility. Known for her striking appearance, she was somewhat of a talking point among the troops; in their memory, she had never smiled like this before.

In their astonished gaze, the image of the female officer suddenly distorted.

In the blink of an eye, the "female officer" had circled behind one of the guards, moving as fluidly as a snake slithering around a tree.

The next moment, her vine-like, flexible arm wrapped around the other’s neck, with the other hand positioned atop his head. Nearly without pause, that slender arm unleashed a brute strength completely inconsistent with its appearance. Accompanied by the explosive sound of tearing joints, the guard’s head was twisted a full one hundred and eighty degrees, ending his life instantly.

Before the other guard could raise his gun, Lamia used her unimaginable strength to shove her companion’s corpse at him, knocking him violently to the ground. frёewebηovel.cѳm

Before he could shove the body off him and rise, Lamia’s sharp bone claws had already ripped open his throat.

In just under two seconds, both guards were dead without having had time to make a sound.

"Such an important place guarded by only two people, the scale seems a bit small," Lamia cackled, the bloody slaughter thrilling her, craving to kill even more.

"The guards are just here to remind the insiders; the real defense relies on that divine artifact," Aiden said, taking out the Wordless Code, "which is why we need this."

Lamia whistled, "Wow, here comes our trump card!"

"Prohibit the obstruction of personnel movement," Aiden quickly wrote down such a rule, with two Great Witches, one on each side, leaning over to watch from his shoulder.

"What’s there to see?" Aiden shut The Codex warily.

"After all, this is the sole authority from the legends, looking at it more won’t cost us any flesh," Qiqimora grumbled.

"Speaking of which, I can understand the second prohibition, ’no stealing,’ but what’s the first one about forbidding the breaking of oaths for?" Lamia asked, curious.

"It’s of course for swearing undying love to a woman, haha," the Goddess of Vengeance appeared beside Aiden, answering Lamia’s question to herself, although Lamia couldn’t possibly hear her.

"Don’t concern yourself too much with these trifles, it’s time to move," Aiden responded to Lamia, while internally criticising the Goddess of Vengeance, "Enjoying your own little show?"

"Very much so, very happy," the Goddess of Vengeance responded shamelessly, "And my explanation isn’t wrong, is it?"

"You ladies should hide yourselves now, Miss Master Thieves," Aiden said.

According to their division of labor, he would proceed with the mercury alloy golem to negotiate face-to-face, while Lamia and Qiqimora were responsible for the theft of the divine artifact.

If Professor Dodge planned to operate on his own son, he would inevitably take the divine artifact stored in the restricted area.

Qiqimora recited divine words, concealing themselves with Lamia as they followed Aiden toward the end of the corridor.

That was the entrance to the core restricted area, where refugees used for experiments were sent in, only to come out again as waste materials.

The structure of this door was very similar to that of the main gate in the core area of Aiden’s prison—thick doors, key parts made of mithril, several complex alchemical locks, with magic counteract runes and various trap mechanisms, its defensive measures impeccable.

But all these were no match for the divine words.

The realm of the "Wordless Code" encompassed the door; the magic counteract runes grew quiet, the trap mechanisms locked up, and at the same time, the alchemical locks began to unlock automatically.

Aiden let the mercury amalgam golem step through the door first, following closely behind it.

Gunshots rang out almost the moment they stepped through the door. Another corridor lay beyond the gate, and two military officers were standing at its end, aiming and firing at them.

The mercury amalgam golem immediately transformed and opened up, becoming a shield that enveloped Aiden, sparks flying off its surface as bullets struck it.

As the officers were still astonished by the scene unfolding before them, Aiden peeked out from the edge of the shield, aiming his own sidearm at them. It was then that Aiden noticed each of their faces was covered by a pool of dark shadow, making it impossible to discern their features.

Just then, the two officers started to "melt," dissolving into black sludge that seeped into their own shadows. Their clothes lay on the ground as if shedding from a snake.

Aiden was momentarily stunned, then he vividly recalled a magic that Daili had once shown: Shadow Demon summoning.

These two officers were not capable of summoning shadow demons of the same kind; they themselves could use demonic powers—they were demonkin with the strength of demons!

Clearly, the "Infection" project experiments had reached the stage where they could be tried on the army, and the Kingdom’s Intelligence Bureau had begun to transform its most loyal agents into artificially-created, combat-skilled demonkin!

The demons that the two officers had merged with were shadow demons, one of the favorite summons among wizards who studied demon summoning. Shadow demons could hide within clearly defined shadows, materialize from the shadows to take on physical form and then melt back into the shadows again.

There had never been a precedent for shadow demonkin. Training these individuals to become special agents specifically for assassinations of political figures, there would not be many who could guard against them, and their assassination abilities would probably not fall short of Avansa’s. If such assassins could be mass-produced, the "Infection" project would indeed have significant practical value.

The two pools of shadow moved rapidly along the ground, approaching Aiden’s shadow. Once they merged with Aiden’s shadow, they would be able to launch an almost unavoidable backstab.

Aiden did not hesitate and began to chant the divine word—"Return," intending to revert the demonkin’s powers back to their state before activation.

An invisible force yanked the two officers out of the shadows, they desperately scrambled on the ground trying to merge back, only to find their abilities entirely unresponsive.

Aiden immediately fired an anti-magic bullet at each of them, and as they writhed and wailed, he ordered the mercury amalgam golem to charge forward and strike their jaws, knocking both unconscious.

"That was quite a struggle," Aiden remarked as he looked over the unconscious demonkin officers.

Several patches of skin on their faces and bodies were unnaturally black, the shapes irregular as if splashed with ink—likely a demonkin trait that appeared after merging with the shadow demons.

"Why not just kill them?" the voice of the Goddess of Vengeance echoed in his head.
