Chapter 507: Chapter 508 Beast Transformation Corps_1
Sunset City base, 6:15 AM, the scout at the third outpost at the base’s six o’clock position was the first to spot the armed invaders through his binoculars; then, almost simultaneously, the first gunshot from the invaders and the base alarm sounded.
With almost no warning, Sunset City base was attacked by an armed force.
The first exchange of fire between the base’s garrison and the invaders took place thirty seconds later, when the outpost’s sniper killed an assault soldier with a long rifle.
"Looking for death," the sniper searched for his next target.
He found the quality and equipment of the invading militants to be inconsistent; there were cunning veterans as well as greenhorns who did nothing but charge and make themselves targets, with weapons ranging from homemade hunting rifles to army-issue rifles. Some individuals weren’t even wearing shirts, just body paint, and the entire attack was undisciplined, with each soldier advancing at their own pace, all headed towards the same target. freēwebnovel.com
This was clearly not a regular army, more like mercenaries or militia. It was unfathomable where these fellows had come from, attacking a regular military base like this was like moths to a flame.
His thought was interrupted by a ferocious roar that was entirely inhuman—a moment ago, one of the invaders he had shot and hit in a critical spot, had risen from the ground, his body suddenly swelling until he transformed into a beast-like monster with the horns of a bull and a half-human, half-beast appearance.
The monster, like an enraged beast, charged straight at the outpost ignoring the hail of bullets, with two more bullets hitting him that seemed to have no effect. Inspired by him, the mercenaries behind him also charged with a battle cry.
Two minutes later, the outpost was completely overrun by the invaders, soldiers who had not managed to retreat to the base were brutally killed, and some were torn to pieces by the beast-transformed mercenaries.
Meanwhile, Aiden was waiting at the pre-arranged rendezvous point near the base.
"Time is almost up, why hasn’t Qiqimora come out yet?" Aiden watched his pocket watch with little expression, but his voice could not hide the anxiety.
"No need to be so urgent, at least wait until the troops inside the base are drawn out," Lamia said, wrapping her arms around his shoulders from behind.
"Time waits for no one, Mr. Redshirt is now less than fifty miles away from here, and if he’s quick, he could be here within an hour," Aiden closed his pocket watch.
"Haven’t you already sent a few guys to hold off that bastard? With my transformation drug, they won’t be so easily dealt with," Lamia said, full of confidence.
"In the presence of a saint, a few mercenaries hopped up on the transformation drug are only appetizers before the fight," Aiden muttered.
Professor Dodge’s move to perform surgery ahead of schedule had disrupted the plan, and he, too, had been forced to bring forward the plan to attack Sunset City base. The only thing that could be called fortunate was that the efficiency of the Mercenaries of the Vengeful Sanctuary was high, and by the time Aiden arrived at the lake that was the rendezvous point, these terrorists had already assembled there.
Without any impassioned pre-battle mobilization, merely on the command of the Goddess of Vengeance, these terrorists stepped onto the path of no return without a second thought—mere thirty-five armed terrorists attacking a base garrisoned by a thousand soldiers was akin to a suicide mission.
However, to fully leverage the value of their sacrifice, Lamia also brought out her prized transformation drug—her own serum, which would turn an ordinary person into a monstrous beast after a certain dose.
The Magic Potion Queen’s beast-transforming medicine, along with the suicide squad that was treated as expendable, seemed indeed to be a perfect match on some level.
Lamia’s genuine beast-transforming medicine was more potent than the version Meiruki had learned from her slaves, capable of enhancing these irregular troops’ strength and physical toughness to their limits, raising each of their combat abilities to the level of an A-grade wanted criminal, enough to deal a heavy blow to this base.
There would be significant casualties on both sides by the end of this battle, and Aiden had some concerns about the possible risks this action could bring, yet he felt little guilt. On one side was a terrorist organization in the south that had caused the death of innocent civilians, and on the other was a secret unit that experimented on war refugees to develop weapons; both being wiped out could even be considered somewhat of a good thing.
Of course, there might be innocent soldiers, but their stance and affiliation with their organization were inseparable, so there was nothing that could be done. Besides, with Mr. Bloodcoat’s actions underway, he didn’t have the energy to spare for much else.
After Professor Dodge had sent his son into the restricted area in advance, Aiden initiated his action almost simultaneously with Mr. Bloodcoat, according to the sensing of the Revenge Goddess.
But he arrived here first, and compared to Mr. Bloodcoat, whose followers were mainly refugees, he had the backing of secret police, which made his operations more efficient. Heinz was aware of the secrets of Sunset City’s base but adopted a stance of neither assisting nor opposing it. As for the operatives on the ground, no one knew the inside story of the base, so none of the secret police could refuse to assist him on the ground that it might harm national interests.
After meeting up with the Revenge Sect in advance, Aiden picked two people from among them and ordered them to ambush Mr. Bloodcoat. These three were all "sacrificial" believers of the Revenge Goddess with irreversible faith, and even Mr. Bloodcoat would have a hard time controlling them. Lamia also provided beast-transforming medicine to them, but Aiden knew they were ultimately going to die at Mr. Bloodcoat’s hands.
"I am here." Qiqimora’s voice suddenly rang out, and Aiden and Lamia turned sharply to find Qiqimora had already positioned herself beside them.
"You’re a bit slow," Aiden complained offhand, "Every second counts here."
"Sorry," Qiqimora apologized succinctly, then frowned slightly, "But before we proceed, may I ask... since when have the two of you gotten so close?"
"I was also going to ask that. Can you let go, Miss Lamia?" Aiden said emotionlessly.
Since Qiqimora’s arrival, Lamia had purposefully pulled back her hand that was resting on Aiden’s shoulder, instead enfolding him into her arms from behind.
Thinking that those hands could easily twist his neck, Aiden felt a chill down his spine, but thankfully, the mercury amalgam golem stood right behind Lamia, ready to react immediately to any of her hostile moves.
"Don’t be so shy, we now share a friendly relationship born from a night spent together," Lamia huskily laughed.
"Warden, your tastes..." Qiqimora looked at Aiden with a complicated expression.
"My preferences are rather conservative, don’t listen to her spread rumors. Enough, with that attitude, it seems like you’re here for a picnic rather than a mission," Aiden chided the two Great Witches with an indifferent face.
"Don’t lump me in with that," Qiqimora protested.
"It’s all in good fun, life-threatening danger isn’t exactly uncommon for us," Lamia laughed unconcernedly.
