Chapter 457: Chapter 457 Heartless Man_1
Daili appraised Halo for a moment, then leaned towards Aiden and asked softly, "Warden, she’s telling the truth, isn’t she? I’ve heard a bit from Presia—could it be that she..."
Halo’s threat made her somewhat wary. The hints from Presia, along with the rumors that Aiden often visited the solitary confinement cell to speak with Halo, made her faintly aware of the truth behind Halo’s sudden return to sanity.
She wouldn’t dare to act recklessly before ensuring her safety.
"Quit the bluster," Aiden said calmly to Halo, "’The power of revenge’ indeed might manage to accumulate hatred and settle scores later, but how much of that power do you still retain now? There’s barely a trace of divinity left on you; the powers you hold are incomplete. Answer me directly, can you still hold onto the hatred and return it to your enemies later? Don’t lie, I can use The Codex to make you tell the truth."
Halo could now use all three abilities of "hatred," but the level of each was probably even lower than the initial stage of the Divine Word, like that reaper proxy from the Blood Moon Cult before.
"Heh, seems I really can’t scare you, huh?" Halo raised her hands nonchalantly, "But well, once I regain my power, I can’t guarantee I won’t seek revenge on those who’ve offended me."
"But at least for now, you’ll have to follow the rules here, powerless as you are," Aiden gestured toward Daili, "Put an iron collar on her. There’s no need to harm her—just make sure she can’t speak when she attempts illegal preaching. Of course, if she causes any serious trouble, there’s no need to show her any mercy."
Daili looked at Halo, observing her reaction.
But Halo didn’t even glance at her, simply fixing her gaze on Aiden: "I’ll remember this on your account."
"A man with many debts worries not about one more. The debt you’re adding to me isn’t significant," Aiden looked at Daili again, "Get on with it."
"Alright..." Daili then took out her magic wand and chanted a spell, summoning a possessing demon that coiled around the wand.
"Hmph," Halo clearly recognized the entity that Daili had summoned and showed no fear; she opened her mouth wide and swallowed it whole. freewebnσvel.cøm
"The possessing demon can only adhere to her for a month at most. To be on the safe side, we should remove it in two weeks," Daili reminded Aiden in a low voice after the spell was cast. "Any longer, and it could demonize her body and erode her spirit."
"Having her behave for two weeks is good enough," Aiden was quite satisfied with the outcome.
"How can you be so sure something like this will make me behave?" Halo suddenly interjected.
"Prefer to hurt yourself just to spite me, do you enjoy being so detestable?" Aiden frowned. The behavioral patterns of the goddess of vengeance really couldn’t be measured with the sanity of an ordinary person. No wonder Melifilia used to complain about how her previous arrangements could never predict this person’s actions.
"Rest assured, with how you’ve stirred things up, I’ve lost all mood for preaching today," Halo said, waving her hand dismissively.
She wouldn’t admit defeat with her words, but she gave up quite easily.
I wonder if the threat regarding the meal treatment had some effect... Aiden thought to himself.
"By the way, how’s the progress on your end?" Halo suddenly asked.
One moment, they were at odds; the next, she casually conversed as if they were collaborators. Aiden once again felt the arbitrary nature of a ruler emanating from Halo.
"Daili, wait for me at the exit after the airing; I’ll have something to ask you later. Veronica, tell the guard at the post," Aiden casually dismissed the two.
"Sit down, let’s talk," Halo offered Aiden a seat, patting the space beside her.
"That won’t be necessary," Aiden declined coldly, "The investigation is proceeding smoothly, no need for you to worry. The cult believed to be controlled by Mr. Bloody Clothes has been found, and we are close to uncovering the purpose for staying in that city by the person that guy wants to find from the Order of Annihilation."
"Once you’ve pinpointed their whereabouts, what are your plans?" Halo inquired.
"I don’t need to report everything to you," Aiden said, unperturbed.
"I’ll be straightforward then, kid. Does your plan of using me include getting my divinity back for me?" Halo narrowed her eyes. "Depending on your answer, I’ll have to reevaluate your value to me."
After pondering for a moment, Aiden responded, "I haven’t considered that for the time being, as you’re completely uncontrollable." frёewebηovel.cѳm
"To even think of bringing me under control, you are quite ambitious," Halo said with a twisted smile. "But doesn’t it get boring always having everything in the palm of your hand? There should always be some uncertainty to make things exciting."
Seeking thrills—this taste really was similar to Melifilia and the others.
"Sorry, but my interests are different from you rulers," Aiden replied coldly.
"As long as I take back my authority, I will do everything in my power to dismantle that scheming bitch piece by piece—that’s not a promise, but something I’m bound to do. For that purpose, I can overlook you and live in peace with you in the future," Halo told Aiden slowly, her gaze fixed on him. "You’re a smart man; you should see this is your only way of survival."
"I won’t blindly trust a prisoner, but I’ll consider it," Aiden answered. "That matter is still far away from me though. Right now, I only want to do my best to stop Mr. Bloody Clothes from getting the Hand of Annihilation, which is also crucial for you. I hope you won’t hinder me at such a critical time. If I die, you’ll lose the chance to use me."
"I might be willing to put in some effort there, but you’re going to have to let me contact my followers," Halo replied with a ferocious grin.
"I’ll consider that as a last resort," Aiden responded. "For now, just behave yourself in prison; if you want me to lower my guard, at least put on an act."
"That’s not my style. By the way, what’s with that little girl over there looking like a goat? She’s been staring at me for a while," Halo suddenly pointed in a direction.
"Hmm?" Aiden followed Halo’s indication and saw Fille hiding beside a distant pillar, biting her sleeve and staring intently in their direction, her face full of unwillingness.
"What are you up to?" Aiden called out to her, frowning.
However, Fille suddenly burst into tears with a "waah," turned, and ran, all the while crying out, "To think he would really fall for such a worthless woman? Aiden, you heartless man!!"
Aiden stood silently in place, baffled for a good while, before shaking his head.
This one never runs out of tricks to cause a commotion.
