Chapter 237: Chapter 237 What Does It Have to Do With Me_1

"Officer, this..." Veronica’s face turned somewhat pale as she looked to her superior for help.

From her perspective, she had merely "just" broken the vampire’s wrist, given her a hip toss, and then stepped on her a couple of times to ensure she couldn’t fight back.

But then in the next second, the vampire’s body began to disintegrate, while also screaming as if dying, one could be forgiven for thinking the creature was faking it with some bizarre scheme.

"It’s not your fault," Aiden casually responded, even though his own brows were tightly furrowed.

The overseer had clearly used their own ability to pre-ordain a certain "manner of death" for this vampiress, and once the mission failed, would not hesitate to execute her.

This was probably the fundamental reason why this expendable piece was under their control and dared to take such a desperate measure as a prison break.

"Save me! I don’t want to die..." The desperate vampire begged Aiden for help, blood-tears streaming down her face.

Aiden naturally did not wish for the vampire before him to be silenced according to the enemy’s wishes, and out of an attempt, he tried speaking divine words.

He did not expect to fully negate the effects of the overseer’s powers, but as Melifilia had mentioned to him before, the strength of an authority was only related to how closely an individual approached that authority.

If the overseer had not truly mastered the effect of the divine words, but was merely exercising grace borrowed from the Grim Reaper, then perhaps his divine words could have a slight effect. freewebnøvel.coɱ

As soon as Aiden finished the incantation, Veronica keenly sensed that the streets around them had undergone a strange change, with the scattered fallen leaves and trash on the road appearing to gather together as if being swept by someone.

Aiden paid no heed to this change and observed the vampire woman closely, noting that the expansion of the burn on her skin seemed to have slowed down considerably.

The vampire felt some effect from the strange spell he had cast, as her agony visibly eased. She ceased her howling cries and simply lay there, whining and weeping.

Aiden narrowed his eyes, "return" divine words did have some effect, dispelling part of the "death-dealing" authority’s effect, reducing the potentially fatal ongoing damage, and barely kept her clinging to life.

But the damage already done seemed irreversible, and the effect of the injury had not completely disappeared.

If she were not given additional medical treatment, this vampire would likely still succumb to a slow death under the effects of the authority.

"Go, call someone to take this one to the infirmary, and while you’re at it, inform the Heretic Tribunal," Aiden immediately directed Veronica.

Two minutes later, Aiden arrived at the core area’s infirmary with the half-dead vampire.

"A vampire burnt by the sun? Where on earth did you find this one?" The jail doctor was surprised as Aiden brought in the patient, "Hold on, this isn’t one of our prisoners, is it?"

"You don’t need to worry about that; this one just tried to hold Veronica hostage to break out of prison at the entrance. She was bound to be locked up here sooner or later," Aiden replied succinctly.

"I completely fail to see where I shouldn’t be worried, is this vampire out of her mind?" The jail doctor couldn’t understand what had transpired all at once.

During the riot caused by Meiruki, the jail doctor had hidden in the dispensary, witnessing through the glass as Veronica single-handedly subdued an entire infirmary of prisoners to the floor, rubbing them into submission. Wasn’t holding such a monster hostage akin to being out of one’s mind?

"Save me... please, save me..." the vampire merely lay on the bed, weakly pleading.

"If you’re willing to answer my questions truthfully, I might find a way to save your life," Aiden glanced at her.

"I will say anything... just save me first..." the vampire’s mouth moved slightly as she spoke.

"What’s going on? There’s no sun, yet her sunburn seems to be worsening." The prison doctor said after a preliminary check, "At this rate, she will die of weakness."

"She has been afflicted with a special curse," Aiden thought of an explanation.

"I have never heard of such a curse before, you’d better have your personal witch doctor take a look at her," the prison doctor shrugged.

"She can’t solve it either," Aiden answered with certainty, "Forget the curse for now, just find a way to treat her injuries and keep her alive. If possible, I don’t want to hand a corpse over to the Heresy Tribunal."

He knew that the doctors in the core area had some experience in treating different species, and they should also have treatment plans for the vampires’ sunburn.

"If it’s just the injury... just let her drink human blood," the prison doctor shrugged.

"Is that the only way?" Aiden frowned.

He also knew that vampires could heal their injuries by consuming human blood, and temporarily increase their Magic Power by ingesting the blood of magical beasts. The prison only had animal blood on hand, which was bought from slaughterhouses and preserved with anticoagulants, barely sufficient as sustenance for the bloodline.

The only reason he asked the prison doctor was to confirm if there was any better way.

But the prison doctor simply spread his hands, "This is the simplest and most feasible method, but... given her injury and the impact of the curse, I’m afraid she will need to consume a significant amount of blood, too much for one person to provide."

Aiden thought for a moment and then had an idea.

He looked at the vampire on the sickbed and asked, "You, what rank are you among the bloodline?"

"Earl..." the vampire answered vaguely.

"Go to the core zone cells, bring Ophelia here, she should be out of solitary confinement by today," Aiden turned to Veronica who was standing by.

Soon, Ophelia, shackled in chains, was brought into the infirmary.

She kept a stern face, glaring at Aiden, without even a proper address, coldly said, "What do you want?"

Having just been released from solitary confinement by this man, she clearly didn’t want to see Aiden again.

"There’s one of your kind here, severely injured, give her some of your blood," Aiden said, pointing to the vampire woman on the bed.

Aiden hoped to use Ophelia’s blood to heal the female vampire earl on the bed. If a vampire took in the blood of a higher-ranking member of their kind, not only could they heal their injuries, but they could also temporarily elevate their strength to that of the higher-ranking individual.

If a lower-ranking vampire managed to kill a superior and absorbed all their blood through a ritual, they could even elevate their own bloodline directly.

By having Ophelia donate blood, she could not only heal the female earl’s injuries but also temporarily enhance her bloodline, increasing her resistance to the sunburn and greatly reducing the blood needed.

However, Ophelia’s face immediately fell, and without even bothering to give another glance in that direction, she sharply retorted, "What does that have to do with me?"
