Chapter 584: Chapter 584: I Sent Her to the Orphanage

"Didn’t you say I was your best friend?" Zoe Morgan’s eyes were red-rimmed as she asked in a trembling voice.

"I did," Faye Wyatt nodded and smiled faintly. "But that was in the past. I don’t need you anymore. I have new best friends now, and they’re wonderful."

"Do all our years of friendship mean less than them?" Zoe’s tone was filled with incredulous and hurt disbelief.

Faye found it laughable, but as she laughed, tears began to well up in her eyes.

She stared at Zoe Morgan, her voice choked with emotion. "I was the one who introduced you to Genevieve Hayes. I was the one who brought Genevieve to the Morgan family. Do you have any idea how much I feel like a criminal right now?"

She had also been the one to take Genevieve Hayes to see Zoe Morgan abroad.

Later, during Genevieve’s pregnancy and childbirth, Faye had helped out considerably.

When Zoe was too busy, it was Faye who took Genevieve to her prenatal appointments.

After Genevieve’s tragic death, she had even planned to help Zoe raise the child together.

But then Zoe told her that the baby had been born with developmental problems, hadn’t survived, and had passed away as well.

At the time, Zoe had even asked her to help hide the matter, saying her brother and sister-in-law’s child had just been born and she was worried it would be a bad omen.

"I..." Zoe Morgan’s lips trembled. "Fanny, this isn’t your fault. No one would blame you."

Faye Wyatt sneered. "You always told me that seeing Yvonne Morgan reminded you of Genevieve Hayes and her dead child. You said that since the two children were born on the same day, it was fated, and that you had to dote on Yvonne twice as much to make up for the one who was lost."

Zoe’s face grew even paler. "I..."

"You said all of this yourself, remember?" Faye said sarcastically. "I just never imagined that Yvonne Morgan *was* Genevieve’s supposedly dead child."

Zoe trembled all over, tears streaming down her cheeks as she tried to explain, "It was Genevieve’s dying wish! She wanted her child to grow up with her father..."

"So you let Yvonne Morgan steal Renee’s life?" Faye looked at her with disgust. "What did Renee ever do wrong? Why should she have to pay the price for your selfishness?"

Renee Jennings suddenly remembered something. After a few quick taps on her phone, she put down her chopsticks and walked over.

"Zoe Morgan, back then, besides swapping my identity with Yvonne Morgan’s, you also switched two other babies, didn’t you?" Her tone was certain.

Zoe’s expression changed, a flicker of panic and shock crossing her eyes.

’How could she know about that?’

"What?" Faye Wyatt stared at her in disbelief. "Zoe Morgan, you swapped other people’s babies too?"

"Rhea Dempsey and Wendy Lowe." Renee Jennings quietly uttered the two names. "Why did you swap their daughters?"

Zoe clenched her fists and shook her head. "I didn’t. I never did that."

Renee’s eyes narrowed as she probed coldly, "You disguised yourself as a nurse and swapped Yvonne Morgan into the Morgan family. Then you swapped me into Rhea Dempsey’s family and Rhea’s daughter into Wendy Lowe’s family. So where did Wendy Lowe’s daughter go?"

"Zoe Morgan, you’re completely depraved!" Faye’s voice trembled with rage as she reached out and shoved Zoe to the ground.

"Oh my God, she destroyed four families..." Michelle Fuller covered her mouth in disbelief.

Sylvia Brooks’s eyes also widened in shock. "Why would she do that?"

Zoe stumbled, barely managing to steady herself against the wall. Her head was buzzing, her face was as white as a sheet, and even her fingertips were trembling.

She’d never imagined that incident would come to light.

"I... I didn’t," Zoe retorted frantically. "You’re framing me! I never did any of those things!"

With that, she spun around in a panic and stumbled out, her pathetic figure looking like she was fleeing for her life.

"Zoe Morgan!" Faye strode forward, grabbed her, and slammed the open door shut. "Don’t you go anywhere! Explain yourself!"

"Fanny, let me go!" Zoe struggled violently against the tight grip on her arm, her expression agitated. "She’s framing me! I don’t want to see her!"

"If she’s framing you, why are you so nervous?" Faye demanded coldly.

"I..." Zoe’s eyes flickered, and she said in a tearful voice, "Can you please stop pushing me?"

Faye’s eyes were red as she stared at her intently. "Did you or did you not swap four babies?"

"I... I didn’t."

"You’re lying!"

"I’m not..."

Faye grabbed her by the collar and roared through gritted teeth, "Zoe Morgan, you make me sick!"

Tears streamed down Zoe’s face as she looked at her. "Fanny, can you please not push me..."

Faye couldn’t take it anymore. She raised her hand in a fury and slapped her across the face. "You’re beyond reason!"

Zoe clutched her face, a look of shock in her eyes. "Faye Wyatt, you actually hit me?"

"So what if I hit you?" Faye snapped. "For doing something so depraved, a slap is getting off easy!"

Renee Jennings asked softly, "Zoe Morgan, I can understand why you swapped Yvonne Morgan into the Morgan family. But why did you swap me into Rhea Dempsey’s family?"

Zoe stared at Renee and suddenly started to laugh. "Because I thought Rhea Dempsey was a good woman. I thought she would take good care of you."

"I see." Renee nodded, then asked again, "You swapped Rhea Dempsey’s daughter to Wendy Lowe. Then what about Wendy Lowe’s daughter? Did she become the stand-in for Genevieve’s child who supposedly died?"

"Yes," Zoe murmured. "That girl... I sent her to an orphanage."

"You sent her to an orphanage?" Faye was aghast. "She could have had a carefree life with her parents, but you ruined her entire life! Zoe Morgan, you are so heartless."

"Why send Wendy Lowe’s child to an orphanage?" Renee continued to press.

’This isn’t that simple,’ she thought.

By swapping her into Rhea Dempsey’s family, Zoe Morgan had already achieved her objective.

But she took the unnecessary extra step of swapping Rhea’s daughter to Wendy Lowe, and then sending Wendy’s daughter to an orphanage.

Zoe’s hands, hanging at her sides, clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms. Her arms were ramrod straight as she desperately tried to suppress the turmoil churning inside her.

"Did you hate Wendy Lowe?" Renee said slowly. "Or did Genevieve Hayes hate her?"

Zoe’s eyelashes trembled. She took a deep breath, as if steeling herself, and spoke in a hoarse voice, "Yes. I really don’t like Wendy Lowe."

"Why?" Faye asked.

"It’s all her fault Genevieve was so heartbroken! If she hadn’t deliberately made Genevieve angry, maybe Genevieve wouldn’t have died!"

Renee frowned. "Did Genevieve Hayes know Wendy Lowe?"

Zoe said, "Genevieve told me they used to be best friends who told each other everything. But Wendy Lowe stole the man Genevieve loved!"
