Chapter 1291: Chapter 1289: You Are the One in His Heart, He Only Treats You Well, Never Harsh with You
Lana Shaw’s car screeched to a halt at the entrance of the Shaw Mansion. The car behind followed suit and stopped as well. All they saw was Richard Shaw holding Leah at the door, and nothing else.
Everyone widened their eyes in shock. Was this really the same Richard Shaw who was so cold, reticent, and commanded respect without a word? It turns out he has a soft spot too. From now on, anyone who says the Shaw Family doesn’t spoil their wives would have a fight on their hands.
The side branches of the Shaw Family got out of their cars, somewhat dizzy from the journey. They had prepared a belly full of words but couldn’t utter a single one.
Upon hearing the screeching brakes, Leah turned around and saw three or four men and women, including a few elders, from the Shaw Family. Her cheeks immediately flushed. With her big, clear eyes, she glared at Richard Shaw, let out a cold humph, and felt like grinding her teeth.
Richard Shaw remained expressionless, feeling quite helpless. Why were there suddenly so many unrelated people when he was just being affectionate with his wife at his house’s doorstep? Although the man was not pleased, he courteously and restrainedly greeted everyone to come inside.
Lana Shaw and Calliope Shaw walked at the back. Only after everyone was inside, did they flank Leah, holding her arms, giggling and saying, "Sister-in-law, honestly, from childhood to now, I’ve never admired anyone but you."
"Geez, I almost hit the wall with the car because of this. My cousin even glared at me, did you see? Cold and ruthless, it terrified me!" Lana Shaw draped herself over Leah, looking like she might cry. "Sister-in-law, you have to whisper in his ear tonight and tell him I didn’t see anything."
"It was just a hug at the door, wasn’t it? Alana, what exactly did you see?" Calliope, sitting in the car behind, heard something off and quickly asked.
"Unspeakable things," Lana replied, her face switching from a grimace to a giggle. "My eyes almost popped out."
"Geez!!!" Calliope suddenly realized what she’d missed!
"It was just a kiss at the door, why are you all making such a big fuss?" Leah smiled lazily and said, "Don’t tell me, you still have your first kisses?"
Both shook their heads in unison, quickly responding, "That’s different. That’s Richard Shaw."
"My parents are tense when they see Cousin; when Cousin glares at me, my legs turn to jelly."
"Throughout my whole life, I’ve only spoken to my cousin a handful of times."
The two of them chattered away, one after another.
Leah rolled her eyes, not finding Richard Shaw particularly intimidating.
"That’s because you hold a special place in his heart. He’s never harsh with you," Calliope concluded emphatically.
Upon hearing this, Leah felt her annoyance subside considerably, leaving her with a sweet feeling.
The three of them continued chatting at the door until Richard Shaw noticed Leah hadn’t followed. He came back, standing in the doorway, softly coughing as he said in a low, gentle voice, "Leah, it’s cold outside, come back in and warm up."
Standing under a leafless ginkgo tree, the man looked handsome and calm, his tall figure making the whole courtyard feel much brighter.
Lana and Calliope acted like mice seeing a cat, quickly going silent. They exchanged a glance with a hint of a smile in their eyes and dashed into the courtyard, laughing, "Sister-in-law, we’re going in first."
Calliope, bolder, laughed while running, "Cousin, we won’t lose Sister-in-law, you worry too much even at the doorstep."
Richard Shaw was indeed worried, feeling he needed to see her in person. Perhaps after all these years, the more he cared, the more he feared losing.
Teased by the two, Leah, being open and carefree, initially thought nothing of it. However, looking at the man standing beneath the ginkgo tree, with deep eyes filled with amusement, her face suddenly warmed, feigning anger as she said, "It’s all your fault. I’ll be mocked by those two rascals for at least half a month."
Smiling slightly, the man’s naturally stern facial features softened, exuding endless tenderness. Although he said nothing, it seemed like he spoke countless love words.
Leah let out a curious "Hmm" and suddenly noticed Richard seemed different.
The man walked over, took her hand, and led her into the courtyard.
"You’ve been in a good mood lately?" Leah let him hold her hand, asking softly.
"Yes." Richard’s tea-colored eyes held a hint of ease as he replied in a deep, sexy voice, "Without official duties, I feel light as a feather, happy to spend time with you and Grandma."
Being the only son of the Shaw Family since birth, and after losing his parents, he devoted his first thirty years to the country and familial honor. Now, with too much power in his hands causing concern, he was forced to relinquish it. The Shaw family’s honor was no longer a burden for future generations. For the decades to come, he truly wanted to be a leisurely gentleman, growing vegetables and crafting, accompanying Grandma and Leah, and raising Casimir Shaw to adulthood. Such dreams were already wonderful just to imagine.
"Then aren’t you going to hug my thigh quickly? You’ll rely on me for support from now on, understand?" Leah jokingly said, shaking his hand proudly.
"Of course, I would gladly eat from your hand, Miss Leah, willing to be a horse or ox to repay you," the man chuckled.
"You’re wise! Since you’re so sensible, my home needs a chef, so you should focus on cooking for me from now on."
Hand in hand, the two strolled leisurely in the courtyard, talking softly.
Members of the Shaw Family’s side branch eagerly waited on the lounge veranda. Seeing this, they gathered around the old lady, saying, "It seems there’s a wedding to plan for the family."
"I’m afraid there’s no better pair in the entire Imperial City."
"Their feelings are truly deep. Seeing the young couple embracing at the door stirred me, even at this age."
The crowd had initially planned to inquire about Richard Shaw’s recent situation. But seeing how he was in the mood for romance and Grandma was all smiles, the whole Shaw Family didn’t seem like they had suffered a setback; instead, it was filled with a warm and cozy atmosphere. Hence, there was no need to ask further. All were overflowing with gossip, urging the two to marry quickly.
The old lady couldn’t stop smiling, feeling that life had come to a fulfilling point, witnessing her grandchildren find happiness. She felt more joyous than anyone else.
"Young people’s affairs are not mine to meddle in. Don’t try to involve me, or Azhe might accuse me of meddling in his business. I’m not falling for it," the old lady chuckled, her eyes slightly moist with joy, calling for Mrs. Zhao to prepare dinner.
While the Shaw Family was full of joy, Brocade City was fraught with tension, a storm brewing.
With each autumn rain, the cold deepened. Entering winter, the rain became bone-chilling. Aurora Coldwell stood by the window, looking at the damp yard after the rain, feeling the vast Coldwell Mansion was empty, somewhat vacant, somewhat cold.
