Chapter 971: Chapter 998: Honesty and Courage (2)
Wren King and Blair Chester appeared in front of everyone.
Wren King had cut her hair short, which brought out a more delicate look in her previously only decent features. Wearing sky-high heels and a strappy floral dress, she looked thinner than Mia Ginger remembered, with a slight smile on her lips but a touch of arrogance in her eyes.
Blair Chester was much more low-key compared to her, with a bare face full of collagen and luminous, dewy skin. Her long hair cascaded down, and the light blue one-shoulder gown only accentuated her tall, graceful figure, elegant and charming.
The two stood side by side, looking radiant.
Mina Lee called them to sit down, and shortly after, Windsor Myres also took her seat.
She had just gone out to meet Wren King.
Being a celebrity, it was inevitable she would act a bit high-maintenance. When she reached the entrance, she claimed to be afraid of paparazzi and insisted someone came down to cover for her.
Windsor Myres snapped back to reality and couldn’t help but let her gaze fall in Camden River’s direction again.
The overseas climate was good, and the average annual temperature in Y Country was much lower than back home. Camden River had gotten paler, his features more distinguished, with a striking face and sharp edges, looking tougher than before. When he didn’t speak, he seemed calm and mature, with a very charming aura.
In seven years, the handsome and fair boy had grown into a silent and reserved young man.
Her emotions were too complicated.
Windsor Myres pressed her lips together and lowered her head, rubbing the small teacup in front of her with her thumb.
Suddenly, the phone beside her rang.
Brother Davis?
Windsor Myres paused in surprise, took her phone, and went outside to make the call.
The waiter was just serving the dishes, so she stood a little further away and said with a light smile, "Brother Davis."
"Are you home?" A calm and gentle male voice came from the other end, full of concern.
"There’s a gathering at the academy, I’m out for dinner."
"Shall I come pick you up later?" the man asked, though his tone brooked no refusal.
"No need. Our time isn’t fixed. You go ahead with your work, don’t worry about me."
"I’ve already finished work," said the man.
"Brother Davis..."
"Don’t say anything," the man interrupted her directly, laughing, "We talked about this last time, saying too much makes you a stranger. Have your meal, I’m driving now. I’ll call you when I have time."
"Alright, be careful on the road." Windsor Myres hung up the phone.
She stood there absent-mindedly for a while, then took a deep breath and leaned against the wall.
Camden River seemed to be her inevitable fate.
For two whole years, she had tried to drive him out of her heart, but the more she tried not to think about him, the more she found herself thinking of him involuntarily.
She just buried it deeper and deeper.
No matter how she persuaded herself, he was the most dazzling person in her heart. He had a certain power over her, more like an unattainable lighthouse, and all her efforts were because of him, which felt exhausting.
Camden River was so exceptional that no matter how hard she tried, it never seemed enough, and she was nearing her limit.
With chaotic thoughts, she suddenly lacked the courage to step back into that room.
——
Inside the private room.
The waiter finished serving all the cold dishes, and everyone started to eat one after another.
Windsor Myres had not returned after a long time, so Blair Chester smiled and asked Mina Lee, "Is Windsor Myres with that lawyer?"
"Of course," Mina Lee chuckled, "Just look at how glued they are to each other. As soon as they’re off work, they’re on the phone, and it hasn’t been long since they got together — they’re in the honeymoon phase."
"That lawyer isn’t bad at all," another girl from the class chimed in, "It seemed like he pursued Windsor Myres for a long time, but she didn’t agree. If it were me, I would have agreed long ago; after all, he’s a tall, rich, and handsome guy."
