Chapter 9: Adorable Babies Defending Their Mommy

Editor: Henyee Translations

So he had thought that they were smart, quiet, adorable, loving kids? And he was being called a scumbag instead?

The plan had been so flawlessly executed that even he had fallen for it.

Just then, Zachery, who had noticed that Nathaniel hadn’t caught up with them, turned around and flashed him a sweet smile. "Sir, what’s wrong?"

Nathaniel closed the notebook and looked up. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he said, "Little one, anyone who’s ever lied to me has ended up regretting it." freewebnøvel.com

Zachery blinked. "Huh? Oh."

So what if he had lied? It was not like the scumbag had found out about it.

Mia, however, looked up at Nathaniel uneasily, her tiny fingers twisting together.

Hold on... Why did she have a bad feeling about this? Could their scumbag of a dad have sensed what they were up to? Silly Zachery’s first attempt at acting cute had blown up in their faces!

Nathaniel didn’t believe two children could cause much trouble. Still, he preferred keeping potential troublemakers where he could keep an eye on them.

Without another word, he scooped one child into each arm and said, "Let’s go home."

Zachery was delighted. "You’re so nice, sir! You’re just like a real dad! Can I call you Daddy?"

Nathaniel let out a quiet scoff as the contents of the notebook flashed through his mind.

"Suit yourself."

Zachery immediately put on a moving expression. "That’s great, Daddy! I love you, Daddy! Mia, what are you waiting for? Call him Daddy too!"

Something was off about this. Something was very off.

She discreetly pinched her fingertips, trying to sense their current fortune. In a second, her little face suddenly turned pale. ’Oh, no! Someone is giving Mommy a hard time!’

Meanwhile, at the villa of the Sloan family...

"Mrs. Lockwood, you can’t go in..."

"Mrs. Lockwood, Dr. Lockwood is taking a break right now."

"Doctor?" a shrill voice snapped. "She’s a shameless homewrecker! How can I trust my grandson in the care of a woman like that? Noelle, don’t worry. I’ll get justice for you today no matter what!"

Rose stormed inside with a tearful Noelle in tow as she roared, "Get over here right now, you little slut!"

The shouts woke Estelle, who looked at this woman with narrowed eyes.

It was Rose Lowell, her biological mother. The woman who had tricked her own daughter into coming back so her bone marrow could be harvested for the sake of the fake heiress. She also had ultimately driven her own flesh and blood to her death for the sake of the same fake heiress.

Perfect timing. Estelle had just been feeling like throwing some punches.

The moment Rose saw her face, she froze. She couldn’t help but cry out, her eyes wide in disbelief, "Are you Estelle?"

After taking a closer look, she quickly calmed down.

No. It was not Estelle. Just someone who looked like her.

Rose immediately regained her confidence. "I’m talking to you! Are you deaf?!"

Estelle glanced at her lazily. "And you are?"

The question put Rose completely at ease.

That was right, Estelle was dead. Dead people never came back to life. There was nothing to fear.

"I am Nathaniel’s mother-in-law! I am warning you, you little tramp. Get out of my daughter’s home! Are you shameless enough to move into someone else’s marital home?"

Estelle nearly laughed.

So Rose did know it was shameless to move into someone else’s marital home. How funny. She hadn’t seemed to think so when Noelle had moved into her and Nathaniel’s house years ago. Back then, she had even told his legal wife, Estelle, to learn to show more understanding.

Estelle shot an indifferent look at this woman, turned, and started walking upstairs while saying, "Take it up with Nathaniel. For all I know, countless women have stayed in this house over the years. Noelle may not mind the filth, but I do."

Rose nearly exploded. "Don’t you ever think that you are safe with Nathaniel by your side! Nathaniel is Noelle’s fiancé! A woman like you isn’t even qualified to dream about him! Leave now, or I’ll tell everyone that you are a homewrecker!"

In the past, those words might have hurt Estelle’s feelings.

But now? Nope.

She smiled knowingly. "No one is married in this house, so how exactly does that make me a mistress? Besides, even if I did become one, that would be Noelle’s problem, wouldn’t it? Once a cheater, always a cheater. And any man a mistress can win over is always going to be stolen away by someone else. That seems perfectly reasonable, doesn’t it?"

Noelle’s face instantly went white, and Rose froze.

She couldn’t understand what she’d just heard.

Two seconds later, though, the realization hit her. This woman was calling Noelle a mistress too.

But Noelle wasn’t one! That wretched Estelle had been! Noelle had fallen for Nathaniel first, and even though Estelle had been the original bride in that arranged marriage, she should have stepped aside!

"How dare you!" Rose raised her hand and swung. "You little slut! Are you trying to steal my daughter’s man? How shameless! How disgusting of you! I’ll cut your face into pieces! Ahhh!"

Estelle caught her wrist mid-swing.

Then, without the slightest hesitation, she slapped her hard. "Ms. Lowell, trust me, I wouldn’t touch Nathaniel with a ten-foot pole. But if you keep irritating me, I wouldn’t mind making life difficult for your daughter. And then we’ll see whether she ever becomes Mrs. Sloan or not."

Rose shrieked, "You just hit me!"

At that moment, the butler’s voice came from the entrance. "Mr. Sloan, here you are!"

The front door opened and Nathaniel strode inside, his expression cool and composed.

He frowned at the scene before asking, "What’s going on?"

Rose was about to say something, when Noelle pulled her back.

Putting on a brave smile, Noelle said in a mocking tone, "Nathaniel, it’s nothing. Dr. Lockwood didn’t mean to hit my mother. Please don’t blame her for that."

Nathaniel narrowed his eyes and looked at Estelle.

Leaning casually against the wall, she admitted it without hesitation. "Yes, I did hit her. What are you going to do now, Mr. Sloan? Are you planning to get back at me on your mother-in-law’s behalf?"

Rose immediately played the victim. "Nathaniel, don’t worry about me. I was only offering Dr. Lockwood a little advice, and she slapped me before I could even finish..."

Nathaniel cut her off, "Dr. Lockwood is my guest. Are you questioning my judgement by offering her a little advice?"

Estelle raised an eyebrow.

So he was not planning to hold this against her?

Noelle’s expression stiffened, and she instantly clenched her fist.

Rose was quite stunned as well. She was just pretending to be magnanimous, yet Nathaniel was going to do nothing about it? So she had been slapped for nothing?

Noelle gritted her teeth tightly, yet kept a gentle smile on her face. "Dr. Lockwood, I’m sorry. I apologize on my mother’s behalf. Nathaniel, my mother is here to visit Christian."

Rose immediately seized this opportunity. "That’s right! Nathaniel, we’re Christian’s real family! How can I trust an outsider to take care of him? If Noelle hadn’t let it slip, I never would’ve known this doctor had kicked her out. Our Noelle is too kind-hearted. I simply couldn’t stand by and watch..."

Before she could finish, a sweet little voice suddenly drifted in from the doorway. "Daddy, is this the grandmother who can’t tell right from wrong, confuses black and white when it suits her, and causes chaos wherever she goes?"

Following that statement, the villa instantly fell silent.

Rose’s eyes widened in outrage. "Who the hell are you?!"

Standing in the doorway, Mia tilted her head and smiled sweetly.
