Chapter 123: A trap
Stephan rushed into Seraphina’s room with a worried look on his face. He didn’t even knock, closing the door quickly behind him.
She was sitting at her desk, her fingers flying across the laptop keyboard. She didn’t look up immediately, but the clicking of the keys slowed down.
"What’s bugging you," she asked.
Stephan, looking very frustrated, let out a big sigh and walked toward her. He stopped right at the edge of her desk, his hands clenched into fists.
"You haven’t checked the news, have you?"
Seraphina finally stopped typing. She leaned back in her chair and looked him in the eye, calmly. "I’ve been busy. Why? Has something happened?"
"Why did you kidnap that girl? How could you even think of doing something so reckless?" Stephan said in a voice that showed he was angry.
Seraphina only shrugged, "I don’t know what you mean. I didn’t kidnap anyone."
"Don’t lie to me!" Stephan began pacing the room like a trapped animal. He stopped suddenly and glared at her.
"You know she is Julian’s woman, right? You know what he does to people who touch what is his?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"Isn’t she the reason we came here in the first place?" Seraphina asked acting unconcerned.
"Dammit, Seraphina! This was not the plan!" Stephan yelled. "Julian will kill us for this. You have crossed the line."
"Stop whining," she snapped. "I did what I had to do, ok."
"Are you out of your mind? No, wait... you’ve always been insane. But at least you knew when to draw the line. You think Thorne will protect you? He is just using you to get to the girl because he is in love with her. You are nothing to him."
Seraphina stood up so fast her chair hit the wall. Her silk robe flew open, revealing she was naked underneath, but she didn’t care. She didn’t even try to cover herself. Her eyes were full of pure rage.
"Fuck you!" she screamed. " You hear me. I said fuck you. It’s you, who is nothing to me. Now get out of my room. Get out of this house."
"Fine," Stephan spat, backing away towards the door. "Stay in your delusion. But when Julian’s men are breaking down your door, don’t look for me. I’m not dying for your damn jealousy."
He slammed the door so hard the framed photos on the wall rattled.
"Arrrrrrgh," Seraphina screamed
She grabbed a wooden decor from her desk and hurled it at the door. But the sound didn’t make her feel any better.
Her chest heaved as she stood in the middle of the room. Stephan’s words played on a loop in her head. He is in love with her. You are nothing to him.
She knew he was right. She walked back to the desk and looked at the laptop screen.
A cold, sharp smile spread across her face then. She leaned in closer to the screen, the blue light reflecting in her dark eyes.
A small, red icon was pulsing on a digital map. It was moving fast, very fast. Weaving through the city streets.
She had been careful. A month ago, she had paid one of Julian’s men, to hide a high-tech tracker on the underside of Julian’s car. He was usually so careful, so paranoid, but even the great Julian Blackwood had blind spots. And Lyvana had him so distracted, he forgot to check his car.
"Go on, Julian," she whispered, her finger tracing the red line on the screen. "Run to the docks. Save your little princess."
She watched as the icon turned onto Cape Road, heading exactly where she had led him to believe Lyvana was being held. He was driving like a madman, exactly as she had predicted. His love for Lyvana was making him predictable.
The old Julian would have sent the police, but he wouldn’t risk her lover’s safety as she could be caught in the crossfire. He would prefer to go there with a few of his men instead.
But what he didn’t know was that the docks were now a trap. He didn’t know that the French mercenaries were already moving Lyvana to the south side.
By the time Julian arrived at the warehouse, he wouldn’t find his lover. He would find a room full of armed men waiting for the signal to blow the building sky-high.
This wasn’t her plan though. It was all Thorne and his mother. But this was her chance to get revenge on Julian for dumping her, and making her father send her away. So what if she was being a little possessive.
Seraphina’s phone buzzed. It was a text from the tracker’s secondary alert system.
ALERT: Target vehicle has reached 120 mph.
"He’s desperate," she laughed, the sound sharp and hollow in the empty room.
Suddenly, the red icon stopped moving. It was stationary at a major intersection just a few miles from the harbor.
"Why did you stop, Julian?" she muttered, her eyes narrowing. "Don’t stop now. The show is just beginning."
What Seraphina didn’t know was that Julian wasn’t stopping because of traffic. He was stopping because Lily had just told him something that changed everything.
"The van is still at the docks," Lily had told him.
"Good, we’re only about 15 minutes away," Julian replied. He was in the back seat of his sedan. Two of his men sat in the front, their faces grim.
A second car followed them packed with more of his men.
"But that’s not all, sir," Lily continued. "We just found a second signal. It’s coming from your own car."
Julian frowned. "What do you mean by a second signal. A tracker? On my car?"
"Yes, sir. It’s active right now. Someone is watching exactly where you are heading."
Julian looked at the dark road ahead. If they were tracking him, they knew he was coming. They were waiting for him. This wasn’t a rescue mission anymore; it was a trap.
"Stop the car," Julian ordered.
