Chapter 185: Joan’s Words

Editor: Henyee Translations

By the time Owen’s car had disappeared, Miranda was still standing in the doorway, holding her phone in her hand. She wondered if she should call Bruce after all.

After Owen was done, he didn’t go back to the office, but went home.

"Why are you back so early today?" Anita was in the living room preparing the information she had brought back from the exchange. Her mentor had sent her a message, so she needed to return to school tomorrow. freewebnσvel.cѳm

She had to report the information about this exchange to her mentor, as well as catch up on many experiments that she had missed. When she heard the door open, she looked up at Owen and smiled.

Owen said nothing when he heard Anita’s words. After changing his shoes, he walked to the living room and pulled Anita into his arms.

"What is it? Is something wrong?" Anita was a little stunned by Owen’s sudden action and thought something was wrong with him, so she asked him.

"Nothing. I just missed you," Owen said, looking up at Anita.

"Didn’t we just meet this morning?" Anita said, glancing at Owen.

"Yes, but I still miss you."

"Let me tell you something. My teacher sent me a message, so I have to go to school tomorrow." Anita leaned into Owen’s arms and organized the files again before saying.

"Well, okay. So soon? I really don’t want you to go to school." Owen listened to Anita and nuzzled her neck in a coquettish manner.

"It’s not like I’m not coming back from school." freewebnσvel.cѳm

"Yeah, I know," Owen said with a nod.

Actually, before he came back, he wanted to tell Anita what Bruce had done, but after entering the door, he felt that there was no need. He didn’t want Anita to hear anything else about Eric. It wasn’t that he was afraid Anita would care about Eric, but he felt that what Eric had done was too disgusting.

Anita had to go to school tomorrow, and Owen had to go to work. The two of them huddled together for a while, then went to bed obediently after dinner.

The next morning, Owen sent Anita to school first. "Tonight, if I have time, I’ll pick you up after school." Owen rolled down the window and smiled at Anita, who was standing by the side of the road.

"Okay, go ahead. I’ll go to school first." Anita nodded and waved her hand before walking towards school.

"Why does the back of the person standing at the school gate look so familiar? Is it someone I know?" Owen muttered to himself.

Just as he was about to start the car and leave, he suddenly saw a man in a black trench coat loitering outside the school from the corner of his eye.

Perhaps their clothes were somewhat similar. The man never turned around, so Owen didn’t see him clearly. He glanced at his phone and saw that it was almost time. If he was any later, he would be late, so Owen shook his head and left without thinking about it.

But he wasn’t wrong. He did know the person standing at the door, and it was the man he had found disgusting yesterday, Eric. If Owen had known, he wouldn’t have started the car and left today.

Eric had been chased out of Miranda’s house. He didn’t have any savings. His few credit cards had been maxed out. He had nowhere to go.

So last night, he had no choice but to call Joan. "Miss Joan, it’s me."

"Eric, didn’t I say not to contact me for no reason? Emailing me is fine," Joan said immediately when she heard Eric’s voice.

"Miss Joan, I have no choice. I wouldn’t have called you if there was nothing."

"What is it? Tell me."

"Miss Joan, I’m a little tight on money. Can you transfer a portion of the money we agreed on at that time to me first?" Eric said while listening to Joan.

"Eric, what are you thinking? Did you do what we agreed on back then? We agreed for you to look for Anita. What have you done? You still have the cheek to ask me for money." Joan sneered upon hearing Eric’s words.

"Miss Joan, that’s not true. It’s not like I didn’t send a message to that b*tch Anita, but she didn’t reply to me. What could I do?"

"This has nothing to do with me. We agreed that you would do it, and only then will I give you money. Now, you’re asking me for money without doing anything. Do you think I’m a fool?" Joan wanted to hang up.

"Miss Joan, if you want to say that, I don’t like it. It doesn’t matter to me, but you want me to ruin their relationship. Aren’t you afraid that your reputation will be damaged if word gets out?" Eric knew that Joan wanted to burn bridges after hearing her words, so he stopped holding back.

"Eric, are you threatening me?" Joan said coldly while listening to Eric.
