Chapter 38: Good and Evil
"You know, father... I am quite a scumbag," she said with tears.
’A scumbag?’
"Why do you say that about yourself?" he immediately asked the question that anyone would ask after hearing such a thing from a girl.
Little Mi didn’t answer, but simply sat silently on Alister’s shoulders; it wasn’t even audible whether she was eating her chocolates or not.
So he lowered her to the ground and leaned in to ask what really happened, for now taking care of her was his duty and her help was incredibly necessary to Alister. And he, in turn, incredibly valued tools whose values were very large so as not to lose them.
"Calm down, just tell me what happened," he said, and for the first time in the entire conversation with Little Mi, he smiled slightly and softly, looking at her.
After seeing this, she gathered her courage and began to speak:
"You know that I am an ancient sword... And you know that for me to become stronger, I need to raise my rank. But do you know that special crystals are needed to raise my rank?" she asked, and she was still looking at the floor, not daring to look into her father’s face.
’So to raise the rank, special crystals are needed... I see, but crystals in themselves are not what makes one cry. Therefore, I just need to wait for what she says next.’
"I didn’t know," he replied shortly and quickly.
"I knew it.... But from this, one can assume you don’t know how these crystals can be obtained. These crystals are not simple; to obtain them, you need to commit such immoral things... that you haven’t even dreamed of," saying this, she continued, but now small tears appeared on her face again. "Before you, I had masters like you, whom I also called father... but do you know what? All of them, time after time, broke when it came to obtaining the crystals for me."
"I am not an ordinary ancient sword. My ability lies in the illusion of perception, both physically and psychologically. And all the masters, when they heard about it, were very happy when I came to them, but as I said before, time after time they broke when crystals were needed for leveling up, and in the end, they simply broke and fell into madness and died," she said these words, and now tears began to flow from her eyes without stopping.
’She can be understood. If she really sincerely loved them and respected them, then watching people who became literally like family to you die is very painful. She is telling me this because she is afraid of losing me too and doesn’t want me to leave her like everyone else.’
’If immoral things must truly be done to obtain crystals for ranking up, of course, this is practically impossible for an ordinary person and even for a villain. Because they possess concepts of good and evil that prevent them from doing what is necessary for their goal, and in the end, they die like pathetic weaklings who couldn’t do it because they were mentally weak.’
"Look, let me tell you a dialogue between people, and you evaluate it," Alister suggested to her immediately, with that same smile on his face, looking at her.
"Alright," she replied with surprise, because it was as if he had ignored everything she had just told him; nonetheless, she didn’t complain, but simply waited for what he would say, wiping the tears from her face.
<<
"So who are you?" - they were asked.
The first answered: "I am part of that power which always wills evil but always works good."
The second answered: "I am part of that power which always wills good but always works evil."
Only the third remained. Everyone looked at him.
And he answered:
"I am not a part of the power, but the power itself; therefore, I can always do good and evil depending on the situation."
And then this person asked again: "Who then is he who always wills good and always commits good? Who then is he who always wills evil and always commits evil?"
And everyone was silent, and the whole room plunged into silence. After no one answered, the third stood up and answered again:
"There is and will be no person who would always want good and always commit good. There is and will be no person who would always want evil and commit evil."
’Back on Earth, I often wrote novels about villains, and this was one of my most famous proverbs on the internet.’
"And now tell me, why did he say that-the third person and those last two sentences?" he asked.
Little Mi began to reflect on the answer for a bit, and after a short silence, she replied:
"Because a person is subjective, and the concepts of good and evil are also divided by subjectivity. There cannot be a purest person who does good because they want good, because to be the purest good, one must be absolute, but as we have already established, good and evil are subjective. What is good for you may turn out to be evil for another," she answered, her gaze now directed at her father.
"Exactly. Also, tell me-you said that you can feel a person’s inner self before choosing a master... That means you know my entire monstrous nature from a moral standpoint, don’t you?" he asked a very important question; on one hand, the question was easy, but on the other, it was very difficult.
And the difficulty did not lie in the question itself, but in the consequence of the answer. Because if she said no, it meant she had lied to her father, and if she said yes, it meant admitting she liked his monstrous nature. In both cases, morality would suffer.
But Little Mi answered without hesitation immediately:
"Yes. I hoped that if you had such a nature, you might stay with me longer," she answered in a low tone, and hope could be felt in her words.
"Does that mean you know I could betray you at any time?"
"Yes."
"And yet you accept me for who I am?"
"Yes."
After this answer, Alister smiled more broadly.
"Then you should know that I also accept you for who you are, and I don’t care how cruel or good you were," he replied.
In that same second, a smile and tears lit up Little Mi’s face, but this time these tears were tears of happiness and relief that someone had accepted her as she is, even if it is for his goal-the main thing was that her nature was accepted.
"Thank you," she thanked him and immediately hugged her father very tightly, then immediately began eating her chocolate tubes.
But Alister’s attention was not on this situation at all.
’I feel some kind of magnetic aura that is pulling me, I feel it right from the deck... What is that?!’
