Chapter 37: Gods
"Then from now on your name is Little Mi. Shall we go buy you some chocolate?" Alister suggested, and there was a slightly soft smile on his face.
"He-he, Little Mi... I like it. Of course, let’s go!" she shouted.
"But first of all, we need to hide your tail and ears somehow; if they see them, we won’t be left without questions," he noted immediately, which was logical.
"Don’t worry about that, I can easily hide my tail and ears," having said these words, she immediately began to spin, and somehow her tail and ears simply vanished, and now she truly looked like an ordinary child, which gave Alister freedom to move around.
"Alright, now we can go out," having said these words, they left the room; just as he thought, there was only silence here, no one was in the corridor. One could assume everyone was sleeping or busy with their own affairs.
Or perhaps they were all outside.
One could hear only the sound of the boundless ocean and feel physically that you are right now in the center of this infinite water.
They headed toward the restaurant where they sell everything passengers need, including basic necessities.
"Little Mi, you said that gods could kill you too, didn’t you? Can you say which gods exactly?" he suddenly asked a clarifying question.
"Well, to be honest, yes, gods can kill me. You know, in our world, there were three main gods who were the strongest and to some extent ruled in those times, in the veeeery distant past," she continued, "The God of Liberation, the Goddess of Musical Lust, and the Goddess of Eternal Prayer. They are the ones who can definitely kill me."
’So there really were gods in the past? This confirms the local churches and statues where certain people are placed, but their faces are visible. If they really existed, then where are they now? Such powerful gods who ruled couldn’t have died just like that.’
"You said ’were’. Does that mean they died?"
Mi stopped and began to look at the floor, and a slight smile, or perhaps a nostalgic smile, could be seen on her face.
"Yes, they died. 800 years ago an accident occurred; I don’t know exactly what, but after that practically all the gods went extinct, including those three," she said.
’Now it is logical to assume those three gods: the God of Liberation, the Goddess of Musical Lust, and the Goddess of Eternal Prayer-were not the strongest, since some kind of accident was the reason for their extinction.’
’Then a logical question comes to mind: is there someone stronger than those three? If so, who is he and why did he kill them? And if not, then how did they die?’
’Understanding these questions and answers can greatly help me reach my goal. The will of the gods, the will of nature - they all pay attention only to the strongest who can break the very balance of the universe.’
’This means only one thing: to become stronger no matter what, using the most efficient and least risky method.’
Analyzing the situation, he realized they had quickly arrived at a small shop selling many treats that looked stunning at first glance.
"Which one do you want?" Alister asked immediately.
Little Mi looked at her father with a very angry and yet quite cute face, as if he had said it that way on purpose.
"You know perfectly well that I’m not tall enough even to see what’s there, and you’re asking me which one I want? This is such a mockery... hmph!" She turned her gaze away with the same angry face.
’I said it without noticing. She is very stubborn and behaves like a child despite her intelligence of 100. Does she like such a role, and does she want to hide something from me? In any case, if a sword has its own character, it’s best to keep a happy sword with you rather than a hostile one that can harm me and carries risks.’
’Of course, she said that she physically and psychologically cannot harm me, but I don’t believe her words yet. I shouldn’t relax for a second. For as long as my goal exists, I won’t relax for a minute, not for a second, but will always move toward it despite everything.’
’If on my way to my goal I meet a stronger sword than Little Mi, I will take the stronger sword without hesitation, but for now, I am obliged to develop Little Mi and endure, for in the future my life may depend on her.’
After this analysis of the situation, he immediately picked up Little Mi and placed her on his shoulder so she could see what treats were there for this sweet tooth.
"Now will you choose?"
After this question, Little Mi smiled; on her face, one could see a truly sincere smile, and it was very difficult to call it a deception.
And Alister knew one thing: ’It doesn’t matter what kind of actor you are, even with a thousand years of experience, you can never make a smile as sincere as a truly genuine person. People are stupid to distinguish this-not everyone, of course, but the majority. In a sincere smile, the orbicularis oculi muscle is involved. It raises the cheeks and creates characteristic rays around the eyes. It is very difficult to engage this muscle consciously if you are not experiencing real pleasure.’
’But for me... because of my eyes, it is practically very difficult to say whether I am sincere or fake because the best source of sincerity is absolute zero. And this gives me an advantage in social connections.’
After that, seeing Little Mi’s smile, the merchant-who was a bit old, had a white mustache, and looked like a butler in a uniform and tie-also smiled back as if to say, ’Children are so cute.’
"That one!" immediately Mi pointed with her finger to one chocolate that looked like small tubes with two colors: red and black. It must be chocolate.
"Please, could you give me a few of those, about half a kilogram," he placed the order immediately.
The merchant took the required amount and also weighed it, then gave a cellophane bag with the tubes directly into Mi’s hand.
"That will be 4 ron," the merchant stated the price.
’Considering how much the nun gave me, I can count on being able to open a business in that city immediately and develop my power in parallel with my strength.’
After paying 40 ron, they decided to go out onto the deck.
But at one point, tears began to fall on Alister’s face, and looking to see what happened, he looked at Little Mi, and it turned out she had started to cry.
"Why are you crying?" he immediately asked a clarifying question.
"You know, father... I am quite a scumbag," she said with tears.
’A scumbag?’
