Chapter 32: New identity

City of Syoga, unknown house

’When will he finally wake up?’ she thought, continuing to watch him sleep on the bed, which he clearly liked.

He slept as if he hadn’t slept for several days. He began to get nervous somehow and mutter something, but it was impossible to understand exactly what he was muttering under his breath.

But still, he slept very beautifully, cozily, and neatly. A person could watch this beauty, or even artists could paint it.

’Or does it just seem that way to me because his habits are similar to his, although their outlooks on life are different.’

’Could it be because of the shock he’s like this now. I could have thrown the stone a bit more carefully and slowly.’

He began to slowly open his eyes, coming to his senses, then slowly got out of bed and for a while wiped his eyes with his hands, trying to remember what exactly had happened and what was currently occurring.

"Finally, you’ve woken up," she began the conversation in a serious tone that was clearly not friendly.

"Was it you who threw a stone at me from the sky and then saved me?" Ruthless asked immediately, without losing a second to panic and trying to understand the situation in order to then come up with a new strategy or adapt.

"As I thought, you are a very smart and quick-witted person; exactly the kind of people I need," she replied.

"First of all, I would like to ask how to address you?" he asked a question to make it easier to communicate and understand who she really is.

"You can call me the nun," she answered immediately.

At that moment, the sun began to slowly appear through the window, bringing a new day, a new morning with incredibly beautiful visuals. Through the window, one could physically and psychologically feel the beauty and one’s insignificance before the universe, but not go into terror, but accept one’s essence and catch a thrill from being part of something great.

"Beautiful, isn’t it?" Ruthless asked, looking out the window and not looking at the nun at all.

After this question, the nun herself began to look very closely at this visual, and her pupils dilated, and in her eyes, one could see a yellow dot reflecting the sun itself.

’Even the most ordinary things can give such feelings...’ she thought, and a soft smile appeared on her face from the realization of this.

But then she looked at Ruthless’s eyes, which, by the way, were still staring at the sun, but nothing was reflected in them—literally nothing, only a black abyss that swallowed everything, and there was no emotion on his face.

"Do you know why I saved you?" the nun asked suddenly, not answering Ruthless’s question.

"You saved me from your own attack," he replied without hesitation.

"But those people would have killed you, wouldn’t they?"

"No, they wouldn’t have. At least almost everything was going according to plan until you intervened. Therefore, I’m not interested in why you saved me, but I am interested in why you attacked and then saved me from your own strike?" he asked a precise question.

Silence reigned between them, in which one could only hear the songs of various birds that made people understand... not just them, but the earth, that it was already morning and it was time to start moving. In their music, one could feel a harmony that nothing broke.

After a short silence, the nun replied:

"I have no malicious thoughts toward you. I want to act for mutual benefit."

"What exactly are we talking about?"

"I want to find a person whom I lost a long time ago... I don’t know his face, but I know his name and his habits. I can give you money and help you socially, and you, in turn, will help me find him."

"Sounds like a good deal, but do you know at all where he can be found?"

"He is potentially on an unexplored continent."

"Where is that?"

’He doesn’t know about the unexplored continents? There isn’t even a child here who wouldn’t know about such basic things... But then why doesn’t he know this? I won’t pay attention to it for now, but I must take this into account in the future.’

"The unexplored continents are those places that have not been studied. There are five continents here, and all the land that lies beyond them is called the unexplored continent. No one knows what is there yet, but it is certainly deadly," she said, explaining everything shortly and quickly.

"And you want me to go there?" he asked a quite pertinent question, considering it is deadly dangerous there.

"Yes, but believe me, I believe that at some point you will be forced to go there; that’s when you will study it."

’I need to find more and more smart people and speed up the search.’

"I don’t understand what you mean, but I like the terms, so I will agree to such a deal," Ruthless replied and finally got out of bed.

"Fine. By the way, that same ancient sword was found on the unexplored continent; here, take it." The nun handed over the same box that Ruthless had seen with Professor Valerian Sterling.

Apparently, he immediately understood that the nun had begun to fulfill her promise of supporting Ruthless.

"Thank you," he replied shortly.

"Now you must already start preparing to leave this city for your own safety. It’s best to go to the city where the Queen’s castle itself is located, and for that, you need to change your identity."

"Change my identity... yes."

"Exactly. If you want all your enemies to forget you, then simply change your identity. I mentioned earlier the person I’m looking for and said that I know his name," she continued the conversation.

"You are in some sense similar to him, and therefore I will give you his name myself. You will know whom to look for while wearing his name," she said.

’I don’t know if I did the right thing just now, but I feel that he is one of the only ones who can understand and evaluate the situation.’

"If you wish, then I have no objections," Ruthless replied without hesitation, like a gentleman.

"Then from now on, your name will not be Ruthless, but will officially be Alister Vane."

New identity - Alister Vane.
