Chapter 40: First Defense (2)

"What was that?" Kira whispered, her eyes scanning the darkness around them.

"Something unpleasant," Rico remarked, grabbing his machetes. "Shinon-"

"I know."

As the trio debated their next move, they heard the sound of rustling leaves and snapping twigs coming from all directions.

They looked around, their eyes widening in alarm as they saw a zombie appear out of the darkness, followed by another, and then another. The horde of zombies approached them from all sides.

Shinon took a deep breath, his grip on his sword tightening. Kira took a step back, her finger hovering over the trigger of her pistol. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

Shinon, Rico, and Kira sprang into action as the first zombie stumbled into the water-filled moat. They quickly took up positions, weapons ready, as the horde descended upon them.

Shinon stepped forward, his sword gleaming in the dim light. "Kira, stay behind me," he said, his voice firm. "Rico, let’s go!"

Rico nodded, his machetes flashing as he sliced through the first wave of zombies.

"I’ve got your back," he said, his eyes blazing with determination.

Shinon used his shadowmancer abilities to create dark tendrils that wrapped around countless zombie’s necks, snapping them in half without delay. Meanwhile, Rico’s flaming machetes cut through the zombies like butter.

He did not want to use the pistol as it would attract more zombies towards them. Kira took his queue and holstered the gun, instead opting to use the opportunity to show off her abilities.

Kira stood back, watching the chaos unfold. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes and reaching out with her mind. She could feel the energy of the forest around her, the trees and plants responding to her touch.

"Get back!" Kira yelled, her eyes glowing brighter.

As the zombies surged forward, Kira raised her hands, calling forth her powers to manipulate the plants around them, creating thorny vines that impaled the zombies as they stumbled towards them.

The wooden fence around their base was already covered in poisonous thorns. Still, Kira added more to it, creating a massive wall of deadly spikes that would slow down the stronger zombies while killing the weak ones, giving them time to react appropriately to the threat.

She even added some thorns into the water-filled moat, chewing off some of the zombie’s feet, further slowing them down.

The zombies struggled against the thorns, their flesh tearing and blood spurting from their wounds. But they kept coming, driven by an insatiable hunger for flesh.

Taking his chances, Shinon used his shadowmancer abilities to create a shadowy barrier around the base’s perimeter. The barrier was designed to prevent the zombies from escaping the moat and attacking them from a different angle.

"Rico, get back!" Shinon yelled before taking something out of his inventory.

It was an old car battery that still had some power left in it. Shinon had picked it up to imbue electricity into his next creation, but it looked like that wouldn’t happen anymore.

Without any spare thoughts, he threw the battery into the moat. As soon as the battery hit the water, a sudden surge of electricity filled the trench.

The water began to boil and steam, and a loud crackling sound filled the air. The zombies that had fallen into the moat were stunned by the sudden burst of electricity, and many of them were instantly killed.

Rico and Kira watched in awe as the electricity continued to fill the moat, frying the remaining zombies and sending sparks flying in all directions.

The three of them had never seen anything like it before, and they knew that Shinon’s quick thinking had saved them from an even more significant threat. freewebnovёl.ƈom

As the electricity crackled and sparked, the zombies in the water began to thrash and convulse. Some of them managed to pull themselves out of the water but were quickly met with the trio’s weapons.

Shinon spun, slicing through the zombies with his sword. He moved with fluid grace, his shadowmancer abilities allowing him to slip in and out of the shadows, striking at the zombies from unexpected angles.

Rico fought with ferocity, his flaming machetes leaving a trail of smoke and ash in their wake. He moved with lightning speed, cutting down zombies left and right, his movements fueled by anger and fear.

Kira continued manipulating the plants around them, calling forth a wall of vines that rose from the ground to trap the zombies. She focused her energy, sending out waves of energy that disoriented the zombies and slowed their advance.

But the zombies were relentless, and they kept coming, their numbers seemingly endless. They clawed and scratched at the fence, their eyes locked onto Shinon, Rico, and Kira with a single-minded focus.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the battle raged on. The trio fought with all their might, their weapons flashing in the dim light.

Shinon swung his sword with precision, slicing through the zombies’ rotting flesh and bone. Rico’s flaming machetes left fire trails in their wake, followed by the blood and gore of the undead creatures.

Despite the chaos, the trio worked together seamlessly, each covering the other’s weaknesses and exploiting their strengths. As they fought, the zombies continued to fall into the moat, drawn to the noise and movement, only to be electrocuted there.

As the last of the zombies were dealt with, the trio took a moment to catch their breath and assess the situation. The moat was filled with the rotting corpses of the undead, their bodies twitching and writhing in the water. The battery, finally losing all of its remaining power.

"We need to clear these bodies out of the moat," Shinon said. "Otherwise, it’ll just attract more zombies."

Rico nodded in agreement. "I’ll grab some shovels, and we can start digging them out-"

"No need for that," Shinon mumbled before turning towards Kira. "Can you still use your abilities?"

"I can do this all day!" Kira smiled, wiping some sweat off her face.

"Good, it’ll probably take all night to get rid of these many corpses." Shinon smiled before letting his shadow tentacles do the job for him while he analysed the new skill he received for reaching level 20.

"Let’s see where we stand..." Shinon mumbled before opening his status page.
