Chapter 96: Warning (2)

"You-"

"As amusing as this is, give it a rest. She is no longer your wife nor does she care to be protected by you. You’re engaged with a child on the way with the very woman you cheated on her with. You must be feeling guilty but she doesn’t need you," said Ian. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

Jack didn’t expect Ian to understand considering that Ian might never have meant marriage. A divorce didn’t mean that his relationship with Scarlet was over. He still had some connection to her so when he saw a leech like Ian getting close to her, he had to step in to protect her.

"I will ask once more, how much do you want to stay away from her?" Jack asked.

"Your life," Ian repeated once more. "The answer is not going to change. At the moment, I have no intention of leaving her side so run along back to the woman you picked. You don’t get to play the role of a good husband now. A little too late for that, don’t you think?"

"You don’t get to speak about my marriage to her. That’s between me and Scarlet," said Jack, argued.

"You’re not very smart. Do the Humphreys truly allow you to run their business or are you just the face?" Ian asked, genuinely curious.

Jack was either stupid, delusional, or both and so much more. At first, Ian was entertained but now he was back to wondering how Jack of all people managed to get engaged to Scarlet. From what Ian heard so far, it didn’t sound like their marriage was arranged.

Jack rested his hands on Ian’s desk as he leaned forward. "You do not want to make me your enemy. She still belongs to me and I am not handing her over to a bastard like you."

"Calling me a bastard doesn’t upset me like you think it does. I’ve heard it too many times for it to bother me now. Is this all, Jake-"

"Jack!" Jack yelled. He wouldn’t have Ian not getting his name right. It was not funny as Ian thought it was.

Ian might be a Kingsley, a member of a family who had nobility for many years, but Ian was nothing in that family so he didn’t get to speak as he liked. If only Hank wouldn’t be walking around speaking so highly of this fool, Jack would have dealt with Ian in other ways.

"You need an ally to go up against your brother. You’ve planned wrong if you decided to use Scarlet to help you win. That woman won’t get involved in what doesn’t concern her. While I hate you, I will help you with whatever you need to win against your brother. Why the fuck are you laughing?" Jack asked, confused by Ian’s response.

He was being serious with what he offered Ian yet the man dared view him as a fool. Who did Ian think he was speaking to?

"You truly are a fool. I’ve been asking for your life and you still think you can buy me. I truly wish to know how you convinced her to be with you. Share that with me and I might start taking your words seriously," said Ian.

If Jack as he was now had managed to marry Scarlet, Ian could take what Jack did and be more successful with it.

"Stay away from the woman," Jack said in a low threatening tone. "Stick to the women who deal with bastards like you.

Ian wasn’t smart in Jack’s opinion since he was missing out on a good offer. Now wasn’t the time for Ian to act like he didn’t need help. This little business Ian had wasn’t enough to gain him allies with a man who could help him in the future.

’He doesn’t know how she doesn’t care to help anyone,’ Jack thought.

Ian set his gun down as this meeting with Jack had turned disappointing. It didn’t feel right to argue with a fool. "Go back home to the woman who is carrying your child. Or do you intend to ruin a marriage and an engagement?"

Jack stood up straight, finished making an offer with Ian. He could no longer stand by, trying to make an offer with Ian. Now he had to use force to get rid of Ian. He wasn’t too concerned about the Kingsleys no longer caring for his family since most of the relatives didn’t care for Ian.

Jack scoffed. "Whatever she has told you about me is wrong."

"You make the mistake of assuming she speaks of you," Ian replied.

Jack frowned as that couldn’t be possible. As stubborn as Scarlet was, they were still married at one point. So like she sometimes filled his mind, she had to think of him. The love she had for him couldn’t have disappeared yet.

Ian was annoyed that Jack was so pitiful. He expected a more exciting meeting when Jack came to him but he was faced with a man who thought Scarlet was still in love with him. "I am done entertaining you for the day."

"I will see to it that you don’t last long in this town," Jack said.

"Hmm," Ian gave a short response. Jack’s warning wasn’t as threatening as it might sound in his head. Ian might be able to get to Jack long before Jack ever comes close to harming him.

"I will-"

"Stop your rambling and just leave. Your threats do not work here," Ian said, annoyed that Jack wasn’t giving up.

It was like Jack couldn’t leave until Ian showed signs of being afraid. Jack had to come a little harder as with the life Ian lived, he didn’t fear much at this point. Jack also unfortunately gave off the feeling that he was all talk and no show.

Jack wished to get rid of Ian for far more than just being around Scarlet. He couldn’t have a man like Ian who did not respect him, walking around this town any longer.

Jack looked around the office which was shabby in his opinion. Ian thought he could get away with having fake art hung around here.

Jack turned around to make his way out of the room. He had tried to be kind by coming to speak and now he had to go back to his original plan. Before then, he had to meet with Scarlet again to talk some sense into her.

If Scarlet was walking around with Ian to get his attention, then she didn’t have to do this anymore. If she wanted him back, Jack would gladly return to her side. They would work out some sort of arrangement with Beth who should be more than happy with the life he offered her.

’The Kingsleys need to control this bastard,’ Jack thought.

With how bad Layla spoke of Ian, why wasn’t she doing something to get him out of this town?

As Jack walked out, Owen entered.

Owen couldn’t believe his eyes that both men were without any blood on them and he couldn’t hear much yelling on the outside. "He came to warn you to stay away from Scarlet? I thought there was something about him getting remarried?"

"He is. Should he come again, don’t let him in. That was disappointing," Ian sighed.
