Chapter 84: Chase (2)
"Ian! Do not run away from me!" Scarlet yelled, continuing to chase Ian to get answers out of him.
Thanks to Ian walking so she could catch up to him in no time, Scarlet was able to grab his hand before he could go down the stairs.
"Enjoyed the running?" Ian teasingly asked. Scarlet looked like she could push him down the stairs and not regret it. The bright side would be having her nurse him back to health. "You should take my words more seriously from now on." freēwebnovel.com
"When did my mother send a letter to you and what did it say?" Scarlet asked.
"What letter?" Ian feigned ignorance.
"Do not act like you do not know what I speak of. When did my mother invite you for dinner?" Scarlet asked once more.
"Come now, Scarlet. What makes you think I would share more with you for free? You’re an excellent business woman so you know that everything has a price. So, what do I want?" Ian thought about it out loud.
Ian’s gaze shifted from Scarlet to the lawyer in a hurry to leave. Nolan was in too much of a hurry to get away like he had done something in secret and wished to get away before it was revealed. "Did you scare him before you came to me?"
Scarlet held Ian’s hand so he couldn’t run away from her and turned to Nolan who surprisingly walked by her in a hurry. Was he upset that she left him or was there some urgent business he had to get to? Whatever it was, she would hear about it when she saw him next.
"I would be upset too with your constant need to taunt him too. There wasn’t to be any kissing," Scarlet said, still stuck on the sudden kiss earlier. She couldn’t just push him away with Nolan standing there as their relationship would seem odd.
"You said it was allowed if someone was around and he didn’t look convinced of our relationship so I kissed you to prove it. You can’t get upset when I carry out a rule," said Ian.
"You did that for your pleasure. I do not need you to convince Nolan of our relationship. Come with me," Scarlet said, pulling Ian by his hand back to her office.
Her mother hadn’t informed her of a family dinner but Scarlet still believed that Ian received an invitation. It was quite like her mother to give Ian notice of the dinner and then invite her at the last second to be surprised by Ian being there.
Ian happily allowed Scarlet to take him back to her office. He had followed what she said in leaving and now she was the one making him stay. Though his attention was on Scarlet, Ian still wondered what made Nolan leave in a hurry. fгeewebnovёl.com
The lawyer looked like if he had seen a ghost and judging by the fact Scarlet had been offering him a head, Ian wouldn’t be shocked if there were ghosts here.
Scarlet closed the door after they entered and again found herself trapped between Ian and the door. "Not this again. If your lips touch me, I will hit you where it shall hurt."
"I wasn’t thinking of kissing you but now that you put the thought in my head," Ian started to consider it. "I will always enjoy that you were the one to initiate our first kiss."
"I didn’t," Scarlet started to deny it, but then she remembered the ball. She had kissed him to prove a point.
Back then she didn’t think she would be seeing Ian often so a kiss wouldn’t have meant anything. Little did she know then that she would be stuck with him for months.
"I quite enjoyed that kiss though it was quick. Whenever you are feeling spontaneous, feel free to call upon me," Ian offered.
"Let us focus on my mother. When is she expecting you for dinner and did you already tell her that you cannot attend?" Scarlet questioned, crossing her fingers that Ian said no.
"Four days from now and I have not replied yet. It would be rude for me to reject-"
"This isn’t real!" Scarlet reminded Ian. "I don’t want my parents so caught up in believing that it is. I don’t want them to be concerned for me when you are suddenly not around."
"Then, should you have feelings for me after the three months, would it be so bad if I stuck around? You want to get with someone again in the future so you can have a child to leave all of this to. You tolerate me better than most people I have seen around you. Would it hurt to consider me at the end of this seriously?" Ian asked.
"Do you love me?" Scarlet asked, needing to know the extent of his feelings once more.
"I do not," Ian honestly replied. They hadn’t known each other that long for it to be love. "But I do know that I like you and I am willing to let it grow to something more. I am fine with you cutting me loose at the end of our agreement as long as you don’t lie then."
"Your feelings are no more than wanting to bond with someone who is now where you were years ago. You are confusing what you feel," Scarlet said, letting go of Ian’s hand after realising she held it more than she needed to.
With all the attention that Ian had, his interest would soon shift elsewhere, or maybe he was planning to use her until he got what he needed as everyone else did. It was only a matter of time before his feelings would go away or his other intentions would show and she would be ready to point it out.
"I didn’t know you worked understanding someone’s feelings. You’ll need to get back to studying because you are wrong. The town speaking of you brought my attention to you, but your personality kept me around. Don’t mix it up," said Ian.
Scarlet wasn’t anywhere in his plans even the day she first showed up at his business. The glare, the annoyance, the responses and the way she carried herself had caught his interest.
He had come across many people who were being ruined by gossip but none had him wanting to be near them like Scarlet did. Ian had never wanted a woman like he did with Scarlet and he couldn’t understand it.
"If I were not Scarlet Collins, would you be this way?" Scarlet asked, knowing that her name added to his interest in her. "You or many wouldn’t show interest in me if not for my name."
"I can’t help that your family is well-known nor do I have any idea how we would’ve met if you were not Scarlet Collins. What I do know is that I don’t care about your name or your wealth. I want nothing from you as others do. You came to me looking for tea, remember? You could be suspicious if I had sought you out."
Ian continued, "Believe it or not but I have preferred to stay away from families like your own or mine because of what I witnessed in my youth. Still, I find myself wanting to be near you. Other than to piss off Layla that I am near you, I want nothing more from you than your feelings. I won’t push you to like me, but if you ever feel something for me, I am here."
Scarlet wasn’t sure how to respond to Ian. She believed that he liked her but she couldn’t shake that he didn’t want more from her. She was too used to others stabbing her in the back later on. No matter how comfortable she became around Ian, she had to keep her guard up.
"And if you just want my services for you to have a child without needing to get married again, I am quite experienced in the act of making one," Ian added to purposely upset her. She needed something to be able to speak to him right now since the topic of feelings wasn’t something she was fully open to.
Scarlet bit her tongue. He was going so well but he just had to ruin it. "I told you to stop making yourself sound like a prostitute."
