Chapter 253: Spur of the moment (3)

"Ian, now that you have proposed to me, why are you suddenly treating me like a dainty little flower? I do not need a parasol in this cold weather unless you are planning to let me poke you with it. You don’t need to do anything more," Scarlet said, taking it from his hands to close it. "I am enjoying the breeze."

Though the sun was still high in the sky it was not hot.

"It is good that Florence packed a few coats for me. It was to be a surprise but I have placed an order for winter coats for you. Since it was a secret I did not know your size so hopefully they will fit. I can have them quickly altered," Scarlet added.

Ian was happy to know that she had considered him. Scarlet went from they should not be giving each other gifts to now looking for gifts. "I will wear them even if they are too small or big."

"Do not turn into someone who makes me cringe. How is it that you are the overly romantic one? When did this side of you start?" Scarlet wondered.

"Haven’t I been romantic with you since the day we met? I made you tea though it is something that I hate. I got the papers to stop printing about you. My romantic side started the day you walked in asking for tea," Ian answered.

"Hmm. Had Beth not disturbed me the day before, I would have continued to have tea in the usual place. Thanks to that big scandal I found a man who quickly became smitten with me. Tell me honestly now, when you saw me that day, did you truly not have other plans to involve me in your revenge?" Scarlet asked as she failed to believe he didn’t.

Ian shook his head. "I already told you that being beside you would piss off Layla. I didn’t need your money or anything else from you. You were to disappear from my life soon after but I came to like you. You did remind me of my younger self though you were able to better defend yourself."

"I couldn’t help myself in the past so I wanted to help you. You were the victim in all the stories about you but painted as the villain. I only felt genuine good feelings for you and never planned to use you. I hope you believe me," Ian said, lifting her hand to kiss it.

"I do. Honestly, if you were to have plans to use me, I wouldn’t be angry. If we were to switch places and you were the one with my wealth, I would have made great use of you. Seducing you and then getting you to aid me. I would even have tortured Hank and Layla. Have them kidnapped," Scarlet spoke softly, laying out a plan in her head.

"How long has it been since you last got revenge on someone you hated? You sound deprived of torturing someone." freёwebnoѵel.com

Scarlet didn’t want to think about it since it was too long. Ian was the only one getting to have all the fun. "It has been quite some time. The town guards are always watching me so I have to leave the fools bothering me. The second they take their eyes off of me, you might hear news that my relatives have gone missing."

"Maybe it is best that I turn a new leaf and not hold anyone in my dungeon anymore. Luke is waiting for any opportunity to make me bow before him so I must keep my hands clean. I will only use my guns on the targets I have at home. This isn’t like the good old days where you can kill someone and hide the body anywhere," said Scarlet.

Ian touched her pouting lips. "What a pity. Everyone in the kingdom would fear you if you were born many years ago. Your enemies wouldn’t last a day."

"They would not. Peter- Preston," Scarlet quickly corrected herself. "You have ruined me with your mistaken names. I hope you know that by coming to live with me, my relatives will bother you to try to convince you to let them on the estate. There are other homes as well that they want to have."

Scarlet’s great-grandfather inherited many homes and lands. It helped that he was loved by his grandparents and being the only child of his parents, he inherited what belonged to them. His grandmother Rose Collins was the head of the Collins family at the time and gave him everything as she could not trust the others.

Unfortunately, Edgar and Rose’s relationship was ruined which led to her trying to take back what was given to him but she could not. Scarlet was told that Rose left it to her family to get back what she had given Edgar so now Collins like Preston thought they should continue the fight to get the estate and other homes.

"They have not been able to match the price I was willing to sell the other homes for and now that I am getting married again, I would like the old Collins family house to be a vacation home for when we need a break. Are you still considering changing your name to mine?" Scarlet asked, eager to anger her relatives with this news.

"I am. Ian Collins sounds better, doesn’t it? The day we wed, I will officially cut ties with the Kingsleys," said Ian.

"There is still Victor," Scarlet reminded Ian.

"Right. Do you like him or are you willing to get rid of-"

"Ian," Scarlet said, stepping away from him.

"I was just joking, Scarlet. I wouldn’t have you be the one to get rid of him. I need Victor to have a long healthy life as I fear he might haunt me should he ever die. Let me correct myself to say that I have cut ties with all but one Kingsley," Ian said, thinking himself unlucky as it was the one Kingsley he could not get rid of.

Scarlet walked ahead of Ian to get a better look at a nearby house. "Life would be so much better for you if you would just admit that you care for Victor. If there was news sent that he found himself in trouble, I am sure you would pack up to head there." freēwēbnovel.com

"And remember," Scarlet said, turning around so she wouldn’t miss his reaction. "This newfound relationship you have with Victor is the reason why I think it would be fun to have two children. You must thank him."

"Certainly not," Ian replied. He was the one who would convince her to have many children. "He probably doesn’t know how children are made with how innocent he is. Why should we thank him?"
