Chapter 213: Safe place (1)

"Why won’t this open?" Beth muttered, trying her hardest once more to get the window in her room opened. "Ah," she groaned after one of her nails broke.

Beth left the window, now having to tend to her bloody finger. She wasn’t allowed to open the windows to have fresh air come in as they feared she would climb down and run away. They were right but Beth wished they would be so foolish to give an opening so she would get away from this hell hole.

"How long have I been here?" Beth wondered.

When the butler came to give her food none of her questions were answered. She didn’t have the slightest clue if there was anyone concerned about why she was not seen around the town. Was there even anyone to care that she was missing?

Beth had to face reality that she had cut off many of her true friends as they didn’t fit her new life and the ones she recently had around her liked that she was with Jack. If they knew that her relationship with Jack ended, would they care for her?

Beth walked to the bed to sit down. She made the biggest mistake of her life by running to Dorothy. She should have stood her ground against Jack the day he wanted her out of their home and used her charm to get him to fall in love with her again.

Jack was such a fool that even though his mother found out about the plot to kill her and there wasn’t a baby, Beth could get him to take her word that it was all lies his mother was telling.

"She will not make me cry," Beth said, trying not to let water escape her eyes. Though this room was hell, Beth would not let Dorothy see her break down.

Beth knew that it was what the old bat wanted. To see the vixen who got her son cry and beg for forgiveness.

Beth tore away the rest of the broken nail she would have once cried over. She didn’t have time for silly things like this right now. "She is not woman enough to come to me and send the butler."

If she could only slip out of this room, Beth would do the job she paid Chester for and get rid of Dorothy. Dorothy got her time to live a life filled with luxury. It was time that someone else got to experience what that felt like.

Beth touched her throat which was sore from all the yelling she had been doing. She had been trying to get the attention of Jack’s father but it was like the man was never here or he didn’t care what happened to her.

Beth was startled by the door opening and instead of it being the butler to bring her dinner, Dorothy walked inside, looking around at the messy room.

"My goodness. Were you never taught how to be a good guest? This room looks like a dog yet to be trained was released in here. Is this how you and my son lived?" Dorothy questioned, wondering if this was how Beth lived without servants.

"I want to be freed from this room. You cannot hold a person captive in your home," said Beth.

"You must pay more attention to the laws of this kingdom instead of being so focused on which man can give you a wealthy life. I can do as I please to anyone who enters my home. Especially someone who wanted to kill me," Dorothy replied, stepping further into the room to inspect it.

"You cannot prove that I wanted to kill you. Planning weddings are stressful for any young woman and mother-in-laws do not make it easy. I would not be the only bride to say I wish my mother-in-law would disappear. You have no proof to hold me," Beth said, knowing the law better than Dorothy thought.

"You and my son are similar in one thing. You forget that I placed him where he is now. I have more money than my son could ever offer you. It is not hard to buy the people you employed to fool us. The doctor decided to be a smart man and cut ties with you," Dorothy revealed.

She only needed to give him a little insight into how she could ruin his life and his family. Who would employ a doctor to want to help kill someone?

Dorothy didn’t need to threaten him about killing him. She only needed to speak of her ability to spread gossip. Gossip in Lockwood was so bad that it might feel like you were dying when the focus was on you.

"So, I do have enough proof that you wanted to kill me. How much money you offered to have me killed and your plans to find a man to help impregnate you. You were busy building your lies. I am somewhat impressed by the lengths you were going to get to get what you want but you made the mistake of having these plans with my family," said Dorothy.

She did not stay with her husband and build up his business for someone like Beth to take it all because of her whoring son.

"I said that I was going to leave town. Jack doesn’t want anything to do with me so I would like to just get my things and go somewhere. You will never hear from me again. I promise you," Beth said, doing what she needed to get out the front doors.

Dorothy laughed as she had once been in this position before. One of her husband’s mistresses made the promise she would leave but still stuck around for a few more weeks. "I’ve dealt with women like you for a long time to know you aren’t going anywhere but I will be generous. You are free to go."

Beth didn’t move as she couldn’t believe Dorothy was being honest with her. "As soon as I make it to the door, you will have the butler hit me?"

"Oh no. I wouldn’t let him hit a woman in my home. Only drag her away when she gets too disrespectful. I think I have done well in showing you what can happen if you show up before me again. I would hope you are smart so, please leave while I am being kind," said Dorothy.

Dorothy was honest that Beth could leave. Why should she have to put up with a screaming prisoner every day?

Beth stood up, cautiously making her way to the door. fгeewebnovёl.com

"Oh! Before you go, I must tell you that Jack knows about your lies. The baby he was so excited to have. If only you could see that anger. I wonder what he might do should he find you. I’m afraid I won’t be able to stop him from harming you once you step foot outside my home," Dorothy said, her plan to get Beth to be silent starting to play out.
