Chapter 203: Trust (3)

"Sorry for disturbing your talk but there is something urgent we must speak about alone," Ian said, looking to Ryan for him to leave.

"Don’t worry. I know when I am not wanted," Ryan said as he stood up.

Scarlet was both confused and worried about how Ian entered the room, asking for Ryan to leave. There was a proper greeting to be done since he came here and found her with Ryan. It wasn’t like Ian to come into a room like this so she knew whatever he came to speak about was important freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Ian waited for Ryan to leave the room and then approached Scarlet.

"You are to be with Victor and your father right now. Did the plan not go well?" Scarlet asked, wishing he would be quick to say something so she would not worry.

"That plan has ended since Victor had a disagreement with his parents and it is not safe for his well-being to stay there, but that is not why I am here. While we were enjoying ourselves yesterday, someone was starting a rumour. A rumour that I have another woman but it is not true," Ian promised.

"Oh," came Scarlet’s short response. This was not what she expected to hear from him.

Did she have some kind of curse for this to be happening again in her relationships? Only this time, it was someone sharing this news instead of the man in her life throwing it in her face.

There was a moment of silence between them but then Scarlet asked, "Who is it that they are trying to say you have alongside me?"

"Monica, the daughter of someone I knew for a long time. She is the loud woman who interrupted us the first time that I served you tea. I have only ever regarded her as the annoying daughter of an old friend and before you showed up, I have been pushing her from my side," Ian explained.

He could have Owen vouch for him since he had always left Owen to deal with Monica, but first, Ian would like to see if she at least trusted his word. At the first talk of these kinds of rumours, she would not be against him because of what her ex-husband had done.

By now, Ian liked to believe that he had proven he was not like Jake and Scarlet was the only woman on his mind.

"And you knew that she had feelings for you?" Scarlet asked, trying to get what she needed before she told him what she felt.

"I did and I have turned her down each time. I only tried to be kind by turning her down and not pushing away too hard because of her father, but I made it clear to him what I would do should she continue to try to force her feelings upon me," Ian answered.

Ian continued, "She acts like a child and I assume with all the gossip about the two of us as of late, this was her final straw so she attempted to ruin our relationship. I shall deal with her."

"I don’t think you need to deal with her. Unfortunately with your relationship with me, this will be a habit where stories are going around. I believe that it is a lie. There wouldn’t be any point in having a relationship with you if I did not trust you," Scarlet said, finding this to be the best answer.

Ian had never given her any reason to doubt him so unless he said it from his mouth that he had another woman, someone had proof, or she saw it herself, Scarlet was going to trust Ian. She had her fair share of rumours started by lies to know you must not trust all that you hear.

"You could have called but thank you for coming to tell me. I suppose we must think of a way to calm this down before it spreads even more. I don’t want to hear about affairs throughout the rest of our relationship. Would you like to attend a party with me?" Scarlet asked, placing Sunny on the table before her and then standing up to go to Ian.

Ian didn’t think now was the best time for a party with this growing rumour. "Wouldn’t you prefer to stay here so you do not need to be bothered by anyone wanting to question you about it?"

"No," Scarlet shook her head. She placed her hands on Ian’s shoulders. "Staying here would only add to the rumours as many would believe I am trying to hide that I am ashamed of experiencing an affair once more. Attending a party would shut up many of them."

"It just so happens that Alana has a party to attend to start looking for a husband. I don’t mind going to a party as long as it is not one in the palace. So, will you join me or do you wish to see me go alone?" Scarlet asked.

"You know I can’t let the latter happen so I will join you. I shall do my best to make up for someone from my life causing you trouble. I will handle this matter quickly in a way that doesn’t require me to do much to Monica. It will be enough to keep her silent from now on," Ian said, knowing what needed to be done.

"I shall leave it to you. Oh, I must warn you," Scarlet said, remembering the danger Ian was in because of who was here. "My grandparents are here and if you found my father to be overprotective then you will need to be on your best behaviour around my grandfather. Then there is my grandmother."

"She is like your mother?"

"Far from like my mother. My grandmother would like you but she would also like to test you. Are you fond of using swords as it is something she would ask? Do not be surprised if she would want to duel you," Scarlet said, knowing her grandmother was crazy enough to do so. "She’s very energetic and wonderful in her way. Many don’t understand her so they judge her."

"Sounds like a fun woman to be around," Ian replied, intrigued by the description. "I’m sure I can win them over just as I managed to win over your father and mother. And yes, I know how to use a sword but I would rather not duel her."

"Good," Scarlet patted her chest. "Because grandfather would never like you if you were to encourage her to duel."
