Chapter 202: Trust (2)

Scarlet looked out the window at her grandparents and Alana taking a walk through the garden. As always, her grandmother somehow managed to make everyone forget their troubles and have fun as playing was still always on her mind.

Her grandmother came at the right time to offer Alana advice and for her to take a break from work.

"Florence, have something warm for them to drink as soon as they come back inside. Outside it is getting colder by the day. =When will the new coats for Alana arrive?" Scarlet questioned, turning to Florence.

"They should be arriving soon as well as the one meant for you. The dressmaker wishes to visit. The princess needs a few dresses so it would be good to invite the dressmaker. Winter brings plenty of balls just like the start of spring," said Florence.

"Well, she plans to attend parties to find a husband so she will need dresses. Let the dressmaker come to see Alana. I already have far too many dresses that I have yet to wear. Please be with Alana when the dressmaker comes as she may need a second opinion," Scarlet said, shifting her gaze back to the others.

"Yes, Milady. When I looked at the coats for Alana, I noticed that there were plenty of fashionable coats for men."

Scarlet smiled as she understood what Florence was saying. "Florence, normally you leave this special attention to me and I don’t mind sharing it with Alana, but I am a little jealous of the special attention you have started to give to Ian."

"You are always first," Florence replied, trying not to smile as she found this side of Scarlet lovely. "You were looking for a good gift for him so I thought to keep my eyes searching for more. Did he like the gun?"

Scarlet gently moved her hand along Sunny’s back. "I bought it back with me so I didn’t get the chance to show it to him."

After their activities in his bedroom and then Victor’s arrival, Scarlet couldn’t find the right time to give Ian the gun she picked out for him. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"It might have been for the best. While I might enjoy a gun, Ian might not," said Scarlet.

Florence believed that Ian might like whatever Scarlet gifted him as he would like to see that she cared enough for him to take time to find him something. She kept her thoughts to herself as this was for Scarlet to figure out.

"I should just ask him what he likes but then I also have a feeling of what his answer might be. I must think about it a little longer but find something soon before he finds our relationship to be one-sided. It is amazing to think that with all at my fingertips, I failed to find something he might like," Scarlet said, finding it hard to believe.

There was so much in her family businesses that she could offer Ian yet here she was overthinking the matter.

"Why aren’t you taking a stroll with your grandmother?" Ryan asked, entering the room as Florence quietly made her way out.

"It is awfully cold out there and Sunny made her way to my lap so I thought it would be rude to move. You look annoyed but then again, that might be your usual face. It is a bit hard to tell," Scarlet joked.

Ryan allowed Scarlet to have her joke since it was partially true. "Keeping the peace between two lands comes with being annoyed a lot. I wouldn’t mind for us to trade places. For you to lead the border and for me to run businesses. You could become Queen Scarlet."

Scarlet pointed to the chair in front of her for Ryan to sit. "That’s funny. I already thought that I was a queen as it is what my father has always called me."

Ryan couldn’t disagree with her there. "He tried to make it true by spoiling you like a queen. It would be a loss for you to give up what you have now to come to the border. Luke claims that he would like to make amends with you. For the two of you to apologise to each other."

"I must apologise as well. All I did was take Alana from his care since he did not treat her well. There was a threat of testing who has more power but is that truly something I must apologise for? He has grown so fragile that I cannot challenge him. I will not apologise," Scarlet said, standing firm on this decision.

She didn’t need an apology from Luke as well. The distance she had from the palace was wonderful.

Scarlet didn’t need to worry about balls or attending parties like the recent garden party. Scarlet didn’t care about such events now that she was older so her relationship with Luke now was fitting.

"I don’t expect you to apologise and I already know any apologies between the two of you would not be genuine. I don’t want to start a war again after all the effort that was made to have it end, but he wants to have his guards on our land," said Ryan.

"Luke is special as my grandmother would say. He doesn’t like that others hold great power or wealth. He always had a jealous side to him when we were young but we were to play nice to keep a good relationship with the king. He will be his downfall. I have other things to worry about," Scarlet said, her mind going back to Ian’s gift.

"I don’t have to be so concerned about you since you are more concerned about that man-"

"Ian," Scarlet corrected Ryan. "I’ve established my relationship with him so you must address him properly. I would hate to have to fight you too, Ryan."

"I wouldn’t mind if you fought me. I would like to see if you are still the same or has running your family’s businesses changed you. My only fear is you can flip me over your shoulder like our grandmothers. I will never understand how you find the strength to lift me with my weight. Do share," Ryan requested.

Scarlet shook her head as it was a secret she had to take to her grave. "You know as well as I do that it is a special skill meant for the women in our family. If I tell you how I manage to do it then you might find a way to stop it and I can’t have that."

"You are right," Ryan replied, but he wouldn’t give up.

"I shall- Ian," Scarlet said, surprised to see Florence escorting him in.
