Chapter 192: Warning (2)

"Forget what you said earlier. You should sit to have breakfast with Victor and then you can join me to meet with some of my peers. It is about time that I introduced you. Are you still with Scarlet?" Hank asked as it would be something good to boast about.

"We are close. I did not come here to speak about her. Victor almost fainted when I saw him so you should call upon his doctor to have a look at him," Ian said, taking care of what was important first.

"Did you?" Hank turned to Victor, disappointed that this was happening again.

Just when Hank started to trust that Victor was well he went around fainting. How could he not turn to Ian when Victor was proving himself to be useless?

"I will have the doctor come right after breakfast. It might be best that only Ian comes along with me for the meeting we have. I wouldn’t want you to get sick again. Go on and rest," Hank patted Victor’s back.

Ian picked up on how Hank cared very little about Victor being sick. The only thing that mattered was who was healthy enough to be his heir. Years later, Hank had not improved as a father. "I promised Victor that I would be with him today so if he is not going then I will not."

Victor lowered his head to hide his smile. freёwebnovel.com

Hank had no choice but to bring the two alone then since he needed Ian to be there. "Then, there isn’t a need to separate you. I don’t see any bags which means you are not staying the night. Still, I will have a guest room prepared for you to use. Victor, take him to the one closest to your bedroom."

"No cottage?" Ian asked, purposely creating an awkward feeling among them.

"That cottage isn’t suited for one of my sons. It was a mistake to place you there and I shall make up for it now. I have some calls to make so please, excuse me," Hank said, going in search of a phone so he could share the news that Ian was here.

Victor waited for Hank to leave and then said, "What do you feel?"

"Annoyed and happy to be disappointed. I’ve been curious about the inside of the big house when I was younger. It is not as grand as I thought it to be when I looked on from the cottage. Everything is shining to show off that it cost a great deal to buy but it looks cheap," Ian concluded.

Ian would rather his walls stay blank than have so many unnecessary things present just to show that he had money.

"You’ll get used to it soon enough. Come, let me take you to your room. It is quite close to mine so when you are bored, you only need to step on over and knock. I am like you in not wanting breakfast. It is good that we decided to eat before coming here. This way," Victor said, leading the way.

It was only a matter of time before his mother returned to voice her already-shared opinions of not wanting Ian to be here. Before then, Victor wanted to give Ian a proper tour to give him a good welcome back.

...

In the palace, Luke was thinking over his failed party. The main guests had not shown up so he had wasted his time all for nothing. Looking back now, he realised how he had planned wrong. He should have sent an invitation to Alana.

"They are blatantly disrespecting me."

It was considered a great deal to get an invitation from the king so for Scarlet to not show up was another sign of her thinking she had more power than him.

While Luke wanted to enjoy the show of Scarlet being face-to-face with her ex-husband and his lover, he also wanted to make amends before their little disagreement got too bad.

"King Luke, your visitor is here."

Luke straightened up himself, preparing for what he knew might be a draining conversation. His argument with Scarlet was causing him problems in more ways than one. One that brought on thoughts about breaking a truce.

"Ryan!" Luke called, happy to see his childhood friend. "It’s always nice to see a Callahan."

"Is it?" Ryan replied. He was yet to determine if this would be a happy sit-down.

"You’ve always been one to not care for greetings. If you don’t change, you might scare off a potential wife and we know that the border needs an heir. Should I recommend a few young ladies for you to court?" Luke offered.

"I will find my wife by myself. Do you care to tell me why you are troubling Scarlet and your sister?’ Ryan questioned, wanting to get to what was important.

Luke leaned back on his chair. "I should have known that she would tell you about something so small."

"She didn’t have to tell me. I have my ways. You are aware that she is half Callahan and comes from the lineage of Woods. The family who ruled the border for years, right?" Ryan asked, propping his sword up on the chair beside him. "One would have to be a fool to trouble someone from our family."

Scarlet carried royal blood being that her grandmother Rue Collins is the daughter of Annalise Woods, a former leader. It didn’t matter that it was Ryan’s grandmother Lydia who was the oldest of the children who came to be the next leader.

"You’ll pick a fight with me over my problems with Scarlet?" Luke questioned, finding this to be childish. "We both know that she can take care of herself."

’That I know but I have always viewed her like a sister. We were raised to be close. Don’t underestimate how close our side is," Ryan warned. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

He might live far out of Lockwood but he was close as ever to Scarlet and the other relatives scattered around the kingdom.

Luke laughed. "It is interesting how you speak of her being a Callahan when it feels like she only flaunts being a Collins."

"She is Scarlet Collins, you fool. You know of her ties to us. She doesn’t need to remind anyone that she is one of us. Our great-grandparents created a bond that you are set on ruining with your ways. You make it hard for me to bring my knights when you need help. They’ve mistaken a jester for a king," Ryan said, not impressed by what Luke showed him.

"You are no different than Scarlet to come in here and speak to me as you like. All of your families are starting to forget who reigns over all of you-"

"The Castros no longer hold power over the Callahans as we are now the leaders of the border. I am warning you to focus on what you are as king and stop trying to bother her. Since I know about the two of you not agreeing, you should know that the others know. Her grandmother is already preparing to come here," said Ryan.

Despite her age, Ryan had seen her smack a few people around not long ago.
