Chapter 163: What I want (1)
Ian knew that they could not continue until the matter outside was taken care of. He could only kick himself because his earlier enjoyment of pissing Jake off might have caused this.
Before Scarlet could get up to get dressed, Ian said, "Stay here."
Scarlet still tried to get up so she could see what damage was being done to her estate. How could there be a fire when there were so many guards around to make sure something like this never happened? Unless it had been an inside job.
"It is my estate that is on fire," said Scarlet.
"And I shall make sure that it does not burn to the ground, so stay here. Do not move from this bed. Just stay as I have asked you to because we are far from over. When I return, I expect to see you as I instructed you to just now," Ian said as he got off the bed to get dressed. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Scarlet couldn’t help but make the comment that came to mind. "You want me to remain in bed laying on my stomach until you return?"
Ian laughed at the way she put it. "Precisely. Do not move, Scarlet. I will find the idiot who did this and then return to you."
"Seeing my estate burning has ruined my mood," Scarlet confessed. Would she be the first Collins to have the estate on fire while she was the one living in it?
Ian smiled as that was a small problem that could be fixed. "I shall put you back in the mood when I return. Leave the fire to me. Both of them.".
Scarlet sat on the bed, watching as Ian got dressed quickly. She also didn’t like that they were disturbed but the fire needed to be looked at. She was not ready to get out of bed and seeing Ian so willing to go in place of her, Scarlet decided to stay.
"You’re going because you want to kill whoever did this, don’t you?" Scarlet questioned as it would explain his eagerness to go. She only wanted to get rid of the person for burning her family’s estate but she was certain Ian had plenty of reasons why he was so worked up.
"Kill?" Ian chuckled as he shook his head. "I want to torture the fucking bastard. Wait for me," Ian said, giving her a quick kiss on her lips goodbye to then walk around the bed to go to the door.
One of his guns was in the automobile he came in so he could go hunting for the silly goose he hoped was near.
"Well, have fun," Scarlet said, resting back on the bed to get some rest until his return. She couldn’t help but wonder how it would be once Ian got his anger out after finding out who tried to ruin her estate.
As quickly as the door closed it opened again as Ian came in with the tray of food Scarlet was meant to pick up. Ian brought the food to the bed so Scarlet could eat while he was away.
"Why are you laughing?" Ian asked as he didn’t see what was so funny about bringing her food to her.
Scarlet took a grape from a bowl and before she tasted it she answered, "It is funny that in the midst of your anger, you could patiently give my food to me. Hurry up and return, Ian."
Seeing her eagerness for him to return, Ian wanted to kill the fool even more. He went out of the bedroom once more and went down the stairs, finding the front door wide open as servants were looking at the fire being put out.
"Excuse me," Ian said, forcing his way through the crowd to get outside. freewebnσvel.cøm
Outside the guards were running around with buckets filled with water to put out the fire. Among them was Dawson giving orders on what to do.
"Did you find the person who started this fire?" Ian asked, hoping they did so he could go back to Scarlet.
"No. They left in a carriage but I sent some of the guards after them. The fire is out already. It is only the smoke from putting out the fire that you see. Please pass on the message to the lady. It is surprising that she is not here," Dawson said, looking up in the direction of where Scarlet’s bedroom was.
It would be good if she was fast asleep because from what the men had seen, it might have been her ex-husband who did this. At first, Dawson couldn’t think of what angered the man so much that he would take the risk to set fire to the estate with his own hands and then have to drive off.
Now that Ian stood before him, Dawson was starting to see the reason.
"Your buttons were done in the wrong order," Dawson noted after inspecting Ian’s appearance. "It is wrong to leave a woman all alone. I am paid plenty to be able to take care of this. Please return to her side and watch over her as it is dangerous right now."
’If you catch him, at least leave room for me to hit him once. This fire has placed me in a foul mood. Have someone check on the princess since her window may be open and the scent of the smoke might reach her. I shall leave it to you," Ian said, returning inside since there was nothing for him to do here.
Dawson thought of how scared Alana must be to wake up and see smoke so he started to follow Ian back inside but then realised her attire might not be the best so he looked around for a maid to send.
Ian, on the other hand, wished there had been someone near to stop him from leaving Scarlet. What would it take for the smoke to go in the other direction so Scarlet would not see it again? Another disturbance tonight would end the mood and Ian would have to give up then.
Ian opened the door, anticipating Scarlet waiting for him as he told her to but the bed was empty. It was time that Scarlet admitted that she ran away from him a lot, leaving him to sulk.
Ian looked back where he came from, wondering if he had missed when she passed by him, but he didn’t think that was possible. She wouldn’t go unnoticed, especially with how little clothing she would have managed to get dressed in since he left.
Ian closed the door after he entered and locked it so no one could just walk right in. The further he got into the room, he could see the bathroom door wide open and Scarlet still present, continuing to prepare the bath he had long forgotten about.
