Chapter 128: Giving in (4)

"Send her away before it comes time for Scarlet to leave. I don’t care where you send her as long as she is not out there for Scarlet to see. I am in a good mood but I still think of disposing of her. I will kill her if I return and see her," said Ian.

Ian ignored Monica’s tantrum outside. He had guards at the door for a reason so he didn’t need to go take care of this matter. He had given Monica a warning and wasn’t going to do it a second time. A second interaction called for Monica to stop breathing.

"I will send her off. Should I send her there if she doesn’t comply? What of her father?" Owen asked. If he sent her to where he sent the people Ian wanted dead, there was no hope for Monica.

"I’ve warned him enough. Send her off and then take her where you cannot be seen doing it. She’s going to create a mess. I can’t have that now," Ian said.

His relationship with Scarlet was now starting and before it could be ruined, he was going to get rid of any obstacle looking to ruin it.

As far as Ian was concerned, his debt to Monica’s father was paid back a long time ago. He only liked having an old friend around, but it wasn’t worth it when the old friend came with an annoying daughter. It was unfortunate for the friendship to end this way, but Ian needed Monica out of his life.

"She never listens," Owen muttered, annoyed by Monica’s visit as well.

All the times Owen had spoken to her, he was serious in offering her advice since he knew Ian better than Monica did. Monica failed to believe that others knew Ian better than she did so she never took Owen’s advice. Now she was trying to knock on death’s doors.

Ian poured water for Scarlet into a glass and returned to his office right away. Should he be the one to go outside to speak to Monica, he might break her neck there and he didn’t want Scarlet to hear about a violent side of him so early.

When Ian tried to open the door to his office, he found it locked. "Of course. Scarlet, your water is here."

Leave it to Scarlet to lock the door as if this was her business and she had control. Lucky for her, Ian would let her play being in control. She had that power thanks to her position in his life.

"Scarlet, do not underestimate my ability to break a door. I was kind to get you water. I am sorry that I left without letting you finish," Ian apologised, trying another method to get the door open.

The door opened, revealing Scarlet folding her arms.

Scarlet looked at his lips first. They were wiped clean. "Do you just wipe them or when you left?"

"Right after I closed the door. I respect your decision to want privacy in our relationship," Ian said, handing the glass over to Scarlet. freēwēbnovel.com

"Every second of my marriage had attention on it. Even the divorce. While I do not care about what anyone has to say, I prefer the town to not know much about this right now. We’re already seen together at parties. I would like other things to be private," Scarlet requested.

"I understand."

"Good. You are welcomed back inside," Scarlet said, making way for him to pass.

"You do know that this is my office, right? You are lucky that I like seeing you in charge. Are you like that with everything in your life?" Ian questioned curiously.

"Ian," Scarlet warned. She could never take anything that came out of his mouth as innocent. "I am starting to think that I might regret what I have agreed to. You are far too much for me."

"I would rather hear you compliment me, Scarlet. Tell me, what is it about me that you like so much that you would consider something real? I can return the favour and compliment you as well," said Ian. "If you meant what you said, you should have no issue speaking of what you like."

Scarlet took a sip of water first to quench her thirst. "You are different and I don’t say that because it is what everyone else says. I find that most who live in Lockwood are the same. There is only a small special group of people I enjoy being around. Maybe it is because you have been away for so long that I enjoy the new side you bring to my life."

"Do not hold me," Scarlet said, backing away from Ian. "Must I get a dress with spikes?"

Scarlet only took one step back as she gave in to let him hug her. The sooner she got used to his need to touch, the better it would be for her.

Scarlet could only imagine what it would be like if they were to share a bed. She would be trapped by his arms-

"Scarlet, there is plenty of water. Don’t drink so fast," Ian said after the scary sound of her choking on water. "Scarlet?"

Ian didn’t understand why she was suddenly resting her head on his shoulder, but he welcomed it. He would welcome Scarlet being comfortable with him in any way possible.

"How evil of you to hide your face now. I want to see how you look now," Ian said but stayed still to let her get over what was on her mind. He would love it if she suddenly had an indecent dream about him.

Well, another.

...

Away from Scarlet and Ian, Jack sat in his office, awaiting news about Scarlet.

"She never listens," Jack said, staring at a small portrait of Scarlet he kept. It was small enough to be folded and placed in his pocket. Should Beth see it, he would not hear the end of it.

While he loved Beth and his start to being a father, Jack couldn’t stop feeling recently that he had made a mistake. He was certain Beth and the child was all he wanted until Ian showed up and took his former spot.

Despite their differences now, Jack still loved Scarlet. It was evident by his constant need to watch over her though she was no longer his concern. It wasn’t easy to watch another man try to fill his place.

With Scarlet’s stubbornness, she wasn’t to let another man into her life just yet. That would have made it much easier for Jack to move on.

"Why isn’t she trying to fix it?" Jack wondered.

Jack had seen many times where couples who separated gave it a try again as they realised they could not be away from each other. He had been more than willing to try again. The only thing flaw was Scarlet’s inability to have a child for him. freёwebnovel.com

If only she would come to her senses. Jack would find a way to take the child Beth had now and raise it with Scarlet. Beth should be satisfied with enough money as a thank you for giving him the missing piece to his marriage with Scarlet.

Jack caressed the small portrait. Each time he was told of Ian being near Scarlet, he was worried. Scarlet should remain stubborn until she came to her senses so that by the time she wanted Jack back, Ian would not have touched her.

"I am all that she needs," Jack said. The only way for Scarlet to realise it was to get Ian out of her life.
