Chapter 106: Change in plans (2)
Chester didn’t have anyone he planned to share his theory with since it was just a theory. There was no way for him to know that Jack couldn’t have children unless his ex-wife were to have one with another man but even then, they didn’t know if Scarlet and Jack had stopped being intimate long ago and that was the cause.
He noted how nervous Beth became with the news. Biting at her nails which seemed like something she would frown upon. The realisation that there might be a way her lie would come out had to be settled in. The last thing Beth should have done was claim to be pregnant.
Chester thought that their arrangement would soon be coming to an end since this lie couldn’t go on forever. With that, Chester considered taking his family to leave town so he could get away from the trouble he caused. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"You mustn’t let anyone hear that. Jack can have a child with me. He mustn’t know," Beth said as she would lose everything should Jack know. "No one will ever find out."
"What if his ex were to announce that she is having a child?" Chester questioned. freēwebnovel.com
Many had written her off as being barren but that wasn’t the case.
Beth wasn’t worried about that since she could spread rumours that Scarlet was a dangerous woman who didn’t want a child for her husband. All she needed to do was make the rumours believable and the town would run with it.
"Let us say that my theory is correct and you do not become pregnant in a month or so, what will you do? You cannot go on forever with a flat belly. It is best to come clean now," Chester proposed.
If Jack loved Beth for herself, then he would be able to move on from this. They could announce that she suffered a loss to stop others from questioning why she was not pregnant. That was better than going on with this horrible lie.
Beth laughed as Chester was a fool. She could not come out and say that she had lied right now. That would be the end of the life she was just getting started in. "For a doctor, you certainly are a fool. Jack believes that he is finally having a child and it is a child he should have."
Beth was not ready to give up just yet. There was a way for her to have a child since the path she took with Jack was failing. She only needed to be smart with the man she would pick to sleep with. To not have anyone suspicious of a child who did not look like her or Jack, she was going to have someone close in features to Jack.
Just as Beth was going to look out the window, her gaze stopped at Chester. He had the same brown hair colour as Jack but she couldn’t sleep with him. Getting him to help with killing Dorothy was already a hard task. Would she be able to seduce him and get him to hire someone to kill Dorothy at the same time?
’I don’t want to sleep with a man beneath me,’ Beth thought.
Chester was nothing like the men she took interest in so it would be dreadful to share a bed with him. It was even more dreading to think that she would have to find a man who would never cross paths with Jack.
Beth needed a man who would only be interested in sharing a bed with her and getting money. She bit her nail as she thought about how far she needed to go to secure her future. To sleep with a man far below her worth was going to haunt her forever but at least she would be haunted while enjoying the lifestyle she had now.
Beth opened her purse to take out the money she brought for the job. "Pay them half upfront and the rest when she is said to be dead. I want you to find someone by midnight."
Chester looked at the clock on the wall. It was already after midday. How was he to find someone for this job so fast? "I think you have the wrong picture of the man that I am. I don’t know where to find someone who can kill you by midnight."
Chester didn’t know why he answered as if he was accepting to do the job for her. He wanted nothing more than to end his meetings with Beth. If only the family doctor would visit her sooner to learn that she was not pregnant.
"Then you must stop sitting here doing nothing and start looking around. If Dorothy isn’t dead by tomorrow night then it will be your head that I pay someone to take. Or should I go after your family so you truly regret not doing as you were told?" Beth considered.
She was not going to let Chester ruin her plans. Chester only needed to do as he was told and get paid for it. He must be the only fool who would be so hesitant to do what she told him and get money to be able to enjoy the finer things in this town.
Chester balled up his fist. This was his fault for agreeing with her lie. He should have known that she would have tried to make him do other jobs for her.
Beth stood up to leave as she had much to think about. Luckily, Dorothy’s death would take the attention off of her pregnancy so she would have time to find a man to sleep with.
Before Beth could leave, Chester asked, "Are you sure you want to go to this length? There will be no turning back after today."
Beth smiled as Chester had no idea what life was like before she stumbled upon Jack. She never liked having to work hard to provide for herself. The hard work never helped her to afford the things she had always wanted. Chester should know the feeling as he had only gotten this far because someone with money was in his life.
"I will not be made to suffer again. Like I do not want to lose Jack, you should not want to lose me. I shall have it that your children will be able to enter places you could not allow them to by yourself. To do that, I must marry Jack and have a child. I wouldn’t be like this had my father made better choices. Decide whether saving someone else or your child comes first," said Beth.
If Chester didn’t use his head properly, his daughter would be no different than Beth in the coming years. Beth wished there would have been someone when she was younger to come and offer him money to do what they wanted. Then she wouldn’t have to go so far to achieve this life herself.
Beth had sank her nails deep into Jack’s wealth so she was not going to let go of him no matter who tried. Jack wanted a woman like her and now that he had her, Beth would see to it that his wish stayed true forever as she was not going anywhere.
