Chapter 19: The Ring’s Base

Surprise.

That was the only expression visible on Detective Riley’s face as she looked at Liam taking down another henchman.

For a kid without a usable factor, he seemed to be doing completely fine...it was almost as if he had been doing this his entire life, which wouldn’t match anything the file she had on the kid stated.

Either way, she finally saw why Sable would hire someone like Liam.

Detective Riley was so surprised at Liam’s skill that she failed to notice that the henchmen he had been taking down all this time were lying on the ground, unmoving.

That is, until she glanced towards the body.

"Did you?" Riley started with a frown on her face.

"No," Liam shook his head as he revealed what he just stabbed the henchman with, "this’ll just ensure that they remain asleep until we’re done here."

Similar to the bullet that contained the Neuro-Strychnine, the object in his hand seemed to be a small syringe containing the ’knockout serum’.

Again, chemistry coming in handy.

"I see," Riley muttered as she looked ahead of them.

They were now deep into the abandoned city and closer to a high-rise building that looked like some sort of headquarters.

If it wasn’t obvious enough that the building was the Ring’s base, the silver ring insignia on the building’s exterior made it abundantly clear.

Liam looked towards the building with a frown. This was going way too smoothly.

Well, there was also the fact that they had been taking down the henchmen stealthily, but even so, they should’ve encountered an awakened or two by now.

"Except," he placed a hand on his chin as he went through his memories, "that’s happening today."

"Hmm?" Riley looked at him in question.

"Nothing," he said, shaking his head. After a brief pause, he added, "We might only have to face two awakened humans."

"How do you know that?" She asked.

"Intuition," Liam replied with a shrug before he continued walking with both hands in his pockets, leaving behind a suspicious Riley.

"We’ve been noticed," Liam said as he suddenly stopped.

They were now in the lobby of the high-rise building.

Although Liam would’ve preferred they start from the highest part of the building, neither of them had a Factor that allowed them to fly up there.

And now, he was certain that their presence had been discovered the moment they stepped into the lobby.

Riley frowned before establishing a [Crime Scene], her eyes glowing slightly as every single detail within the lobby was revealed to her.

She noticed no cameras or any devices that would give away their presence within the building, but before she could say anything, a voice interrupted,

"Oh my, I didn’t know we’d be having guests today."

The person who spoke soon revealed herself to be one of the two that were involved in the kidnapping.

Iris.

"I’d have prepared a proper welcome otherwise. "

She looked at the two intruders before her with a small smile.

After Noa had stated with such certainty that they’d come, Iris couldn’t help but feel curious about just what kind of person had previously rescued her.

What she didn’t expect was a white haired kid.

"I don’t mind the hospitality," a voice came from beside Iris, causing her eyes to go wide, and by reflex, she quickly teleported away.

Iris instinctively reached for her neck, making sure her head was still there, after all, she could have sworn she had just lost it.

She then looked back at the position she previously was, only to find that the white haired kid was standing there with a smile on his face.

’How the hell?’ She couldn’t help but think.

Iris was certain that the kid had previously been standing in front of her with the woman, so how the hell had he appeared beside her without her noticing. freewёbnoνel.com

’D-does he also have a teleportation factor?’ She wondered, but Liam paid her no mind, instead, he simply walked toward the elevator. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"Where do you think you’re going, love?" Iris forced herself to calm down before asking.

"To retrieve my sister," Liam replied with a smile, "meanwhile, have some fun playing with the detective over there."

Ding!

The elevator door opened, and he calmly walked in, leaving behind a surprised Iris.

She could’ve just teleported to stop him, but something told her that she’d actually lose her head if she did.

"That kid," Riley’s voice pulled Iris’ attention towards her.

She realized that the detective was taking off her overcoat before hanging it on the conveniently placed coat hanger in the lobby.

’It doesn’t matter,’ Iris thought to herself, still focused on Liam, who just entered the elevator, ’there’s no way the kid will survive that monster, so, for now, let’s deal with this pest.’

"It’s been a while since I did something like this," Riley said as she cracked her knuckles and looked at her opponent, "but I should be able to hold my own."

"Is that so?" Iris said, her smile returning, "Let’s break that confidence, shall we?"

With that, she suddenly disappeared, reappearing behind Riley with her feet swinging towards the detective’s head.

Riley quickly put up her arms, barely in time to block the attack.

She was pushed a couple of steps back from the force of the attack, but Iris wasn’t going to allow her to recover.

The next moment, she was behind the detective again, but once again, Riley was able to react just in time to blow off the attack aimed at her.

This went on for a couple of exchanges more before Iris stepped back in annoyance.

It was almost as if the opponent knew where she’d appear, and the moment she did, the damn detective would react to it.

"A sensory type factor?" Iris questioned, and without waiting for an answer, she added, "That’s quite annoying, love. Do you mind staying still so I can quickly end this?"

With that, Iris teleported, reappeared behind Riley again, only to disappear the moment the detective reacted.

She then reappeared behind Riley, this time, not giving the detective enough time to react.

"Got you," Iris said with a grin as her leg reached Riley’s head, but the next second, her eyes widened as her legs just passed through her opponent’s head.

Before she had the chance to recover, something struck her square in the stomach, sending her flying toward the far end of the lobby.

Next came a voice laced with unmistakable satisfaction,

"I knew I still had it."
