Chapter 1076: Chapter 1076: As Much as It Should Be

Jiang Youzhi lashed out while saying, "Do you know how worried the family was when you sneaked out? Do you know your mother cried secretly at night?"

"Will you dare to act on your own again?"

Ruru watched from the side. Every time the whip cracked, her heart constricted with it.

She suddenly slapped her head heavily and ran outside. How foolish of her not to have called her sister-in-law sooner. Her sister-in-law certainly wouldn’t bear to see them being beaten.

Yun Jiao was still in the front yard handling family matters. Every morning she had to go to Renxin Hall for consultations, and only after dinner did she have time to deal with the household affairs.

Housekeeper Wang was reporting to her when Ruru lifted her skirt and ran in, "Sister-in-law, hurry, go save Brother Qi and You Er, my brother is whipping them!"

"Each of them is to get twenty lashes!"

Although Yun Jiao had said she’d hold Brother Qi and You Er accountable, she only intended to make them kneel as punishment. Hearing Ruru say Jiang Youzhi was using a whip, she stood up immediately, exclaiming, "A whip? The children will be ruined!"

She hurriedly headed toward the backyard.

All of a sudden, the typically small Duke Mansion felt especially large, as she went through one door after another, yet had not arrived.

As she reached outside Jiang Youzhi’s study, she could already hear the sound of the whip.

The whip hitting flesh made a distinct cracking sound.

Yun Jiao’s heart trembled as she quickly entered the room. Jiang Youzhi was about to raise the whip again, and Yun Jiao grabbed his wrist, snatched the whip away, and threw it fiercely to the ground. "How could you whip them?"

Upon another look, she saw the children’s backs covered in crisscrossing whip marks, and tears uncontrollably welled up in Yun Jiao’s eyes.

The two children were still kneeling. Seeing Yun Jiao crying, they quickly said, "Mom (Aunt Gu), it doesn’t hurt, don’t cry."

Yun Jiao wanted to touch them but dared not reach for their backs and could only wipe away her tears.

Jiang Youzhi glanced helplessly at Ruru, sighed, and silently stepped aside.

The two kids continued to comfort Yun Jiao, "Mom, it really doesn’t hurt, don’t cry."

Yun Jiao wiped her tears and said, "Get up quickly, come to the room with me to apply some ointment."

Unexpectedly, Qi Er and You Er spoke in unison, "Mom (Aunt Gu), we can’t; the lashes aren’t finished yet."

"We agreed on twenty each, can’t be less."

Yun Jiao’s hand paused mid-wipe, and she turned to look at Jiang Youzhi.

Jiang Youzhi looked down, clearly avoiding Yun Jiao’s gaze.

Yun Jiao looked at the children, then at Jiang Youzhi, and suddenly felt that her rushing over was entirely unnecessary. She bit her lip and walked out.

She knew that Jiang Youzhi was disciplining the children, and she shouldn’t contradict him. In educating children, both parents must have a unified approach; otherwise, the children wouldn’t know whom to listen to, or who was right and wrong.

Bitterly resenting Jiang Youzhi in her heart for being so ruthless, she went back to her room to find a balm for promoting blood circulation and reducing swelling.

After waiting for some time, Yang Ying, who had been watching at the doorway, turned back and said, "Here they come, the children are here."

The study was just next door, and the two children were still shirtless.

With the weather cold, Yun Jiao pulled them to the fire stove, carefully applying the ointment to them.

Looking at the swollen red marks on their backs, Yun Jiao didn’t cry this time. After applying the ointment, she said gently, "Having made a mistake and being punished for it must be remembered in your heart so that such mistakes are not repeated."

The two kids said, "Don’t worry, Mom (Aunt Gu), we’ll remember."
