"And...done. I win," I grinned triumphantly, as Zoraiz coughed and sputtered, holding onto a bottle of water and trying to stop coughing so that he could drink it.
"O-okay, that wasn’t fair...you modified...your body so that...you could...puff for longer...without coughing...," He gasped, tears running down his face as he continued to cough.
"Hey, it’s not my fault that you didn’t realize that until afterwards," I shrugged, as he finally managed to get it under control and took a swig of water. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Several months have passed since the war against Hell, I was currently at my new place back home in Sri Lanka, along with Zoraiz, who was here visiting.
I’d invited him over, and we were currently getting stoned and watching movies. I’d just challenged him to a contest to see who could take the longest continuous puff of a joint, and obviously, I crushed him.
I smoked an entire joint in a single puff, though like he said, it was only because I first modified my body to be capable of doing that with ease. He still did pretty well though, he got through a little over half his joint before breaking out into a coughing fit.
Anyway, after Aurora fought God and I put an end to that little conflict, the Angels and God wiped out all the Demons on Earth before going to Hell and erasing it from existence.
God then returned the remaining dimensions to their natural state...that also means that the Mirror Dimension is up and running again, so Monsters have once again begun appearing in the living world.
But it’s not too bad, the vast majority of people have learnt to suppress their Auras now, so it’s not like there are constant, relentless outbreaks happening all over the world like when Liling first awakened the dormant Meta Genes of everyone on the planet.
Harmony doesn’t exist anymore, with all the higher ups having been killed, Neo found himself as the highest ranked individual in the organization. And his first order of business was to shut it down.
Now, all Meta-Humans live freely, no one’s tethered to Harmony’s rules anymore. There were some chaos in the few weeks following the end of the war against Hell, but it’s all good now.
Police forces across the world have implemented special task forces made up of Meta-Humans-...well, everyone’s a Meta-Human now, so I’ll just say humans from now on...-for the sole purpose of dealing with Monsters.
A lot of former Harmony members who survived the war have joined up with those task forces, though none of us Outliers did so.
Before Neo shut down Harmony for good, he transferred a good chunk of their funds to all of us, as an apology for dragging us into the chaos of the last few years.
All of us are now basically set for life, we’ve all got enough money at our disposal to live lavishly and never have to worry about working or earning more money.
I decided to move back to my home country, bought myself a house and have been living here since then. The UN had made a big show of things after the war, putting on a worldwide broadcast in which those of us who played key roles in repelling the Demons were congratulated and stuff.
They also played a bunch of recorded footage of each of us fighting the Demons, it was kinda embarrassing. But I get why they did it, considering the sheer number of casualties suffered in the war, there was a necessity for something to lift up the spirits of everyone impacted.
The world’s population has now dipped a tick below four billion, so yeah, a ton of people have died. It would’ve been a lot more if the Demons had simply looked to slaughter everyone in sight, good thing they’d been trying to take over instead of simply aiming to wipe out all humans.
Things are slowly but surely returning to normal...well, at least on the surface. There’s a lot of scars inflicted by the war that won’t heal anytime soon.
I still feel a lot of regret, guilt and remorse over Kiyana’s death...I have dreams about ways I could’ve prevented it, and nightmares that drive a knife into the wounds of my guilt.
But...I can’t stay down in the dumps forever, she’d be pretty pissed if I did. I mean, I know for a fact that when people die, their souls go to Heaven where they’re then reincarnated back to Earth...so she’s not gone, not really.
Well...at least, that’s what I tell myself whenever I find myself spiraling downwards, which happens a lot. Like, at least once a day, at best.
Anyway, let’s change the subject...the Deities are still around, though some of the minor Deities have gone back into hibernation. The rest have been helping out with Monster exterminations, staying away from populated areas to avoid collateral damage and human casualties like last time.
After the war, I think most of them have gained a newfound respect for humans. Which is largely thanks to Aurora and her role in their battle against Satan before he was absorbed by and fused with Liling.
So, yeah, things are settling down a lot now, life is mostly peaceful for most people, and could potentially grow to be even better than before thanks to everyone possessing powers now.
The constant stream of misfortune and incidents that had become a regularity during the last couple of years, it’s finally over...without Liling, Chaos has no direction, the remaining members have probably scattered by now.
There’s still a lot of recovery to be done...from destroyed buildings and cities, to healing the internal scars and trauma we’ve all suffered. And that’s not something we can rush or hope to be cured overnight...we have to take things just one step at a time, and then, little by little...we’ll be healed. freewёbnoνel.com
