Chapter 240: Chapter 239 - Invasion(Part 5)

Point-of-View: Fenris Hunt

———————————————————————————

"You look like crap."

"Wha-...hey, I was stuck out in the wilderness for over a month, so it’s not like I had a way to take care of hygiene," I huffed indignantly, as I evaded a Devil and slammed my foot onto his midsection, a cracking sound echoing out from inside his body before he got sent flying back at a breakneck speed.

As he crashed onto the side of a building, his body turned to ash as he began to plummet down. It’s been a few minutes since a portal swallowed me up and brought me here, and I encountered a couple of familiar faces; the Engel twins.

They don’t look in the best of shape, and given their expressions when they move, they’re covered in wounds and injuries, and likely have at least a few fractured bones on top of the visible bruises and scratches all over their bodies.

But their clothes seem new, and they don’t like dirty either...guess they must have been in a place close to civilization and managed to get more clothes and take baths. It’s just that they didn’t have a healer.

I mean, I did bathe in a river while I was training with Fenrir, but I didn’t have any spare clothes, so I was kinda stuck with the outfit I had on when I first went there. It’s pretty tattered and torn all over, but it’s intact enough to cover the spots that most need to be covered.

I’m in my Werewolf form, and I have to say...these Devils are pretty damn weak. The twins have gotten a lot stronger too, and are handling their opponents with ease.

They could probably hold their own against Aurora in her base form, without the use of her Shadow Cat or Dark Cheetah forms. Well, at least they could if she’s strong as she was before, but she’s almost definitely gotten a lot stronger too.

"There’s still a lot of them here," Frowned Dieter warily.

"Sure are, should we split up and take them down?" Suggested Petra in response.

"Sounds good to me, if you two think you can handle them on your own, that is," I remarked wryly.

"Oh, I think we’ll let our actions speak louder than our words," Smirked Dieter confidently, before teleporting towards a couple of Devils.

"Mhm, what he said," Nodded Petra in agreement, before dropping through a portal and emerging behind a Devil.

Well, that’s pretty encouraging...I’ll have to make sure they don’t show me up! I then raced across the ground at top speed, leaping onto the side of a lamppost and jumping up off of it towards the wall of a house.

As my feet hit the side of the building, I launched myself off of it towards an airborne Devil, his eyes widening in alarm as I closed in on him in an instant. He began to raise his leg, before I swiftly grabbed the top of his head, rapidly spinning my body across as I did and then swung him down towards the ground at full power.

He went plummeting down at a breakneck speed and crashed onto the ground with a devastating impact, the force creating a crater around his body as a shockwave burst out upon impact, his body turning to ash as the impact presumably damaged his core enough to kill him.

I then spotted Dieter evading as two Devils tagteamed him, dodging their attacks with ease before teleporting behind one of them and slamming a kick onto the back of his head.

As the other Devil swiftly flew up and swooped down towards him while forming a scorpion-like tail from his lower back, Dieter didn’t move, and as the Devil swung their appendage straight at his chest...it phased right through him, Dieter turning intangible to avoid getting pierced. freewёbnoνel.com

He then suddenly switched positions with the Devil who he’d kicked at the back of the head, the Devil letting out a choked gasp of pain as he found the scorpion tail of the other Devil pierced through his chest.

As the Devil turned to ash, Dieter then turned invisible right as a barrier formed around the remaining Devil. Suddenly, a dark, void-like sphere appeared inside the barrier by the Devil, who let out an alarmed yell as his body began to get sucked into it.

Woah, nice, that’s a black hole! The Devil began to try and attack the barrier in desperation, but more than half his body was already inside the black hole, including that scorpion tail he’d formed. As a crack rang out from inside his body, he began turning to ash, after which Dieter dissipated the dark sphere and took down his barrier. freewebnovёl.ƈom

He’s staying invisible, but I can keep track of where he is by sniffing out his scent. I then ducked as a Devil swooped down towards me and swung his arm at my head, his fist having turned into a ball with several sharp spikes all over it.

As I evaded his attack, I then swiftly drove my fist straight up and slammed it onto the middle of his torso, my fist bursting through his body and killing him as I shattered his core.

Their attacks are wild and predictable, they’re simply trying to overwhelm their opponents with speed and power. And that’s perfectly fine against weaker opponents, it’s probably worked well for them in the past...but it’s completely futile against opponents stronger than they are.

I then glanced towards Petra, who had just finished killing a couple of Devils and was now being surrounded by three more of them.

She swiftly raised her hand towards one of them and then swung her arm across, the Devil getting pulled along the line of her palm and crashing onto one of the other two.

Suddenly, the space around those two Devils abruptly compressed and overlapped, right before a bloody explosion burst out as both their bodies were suddenly mashed together. Woah, that was brutal.

The remaining Devil then sprang up behind her as large insect legs burst out of his back and he speared them in towards her as the other two turned to ash. She responded by expanding the space around herself and casually walked away, the Devil’s eyes widening is disbelief as he missed her by a wide margin.

She then formed a barrier around the Devil, who then clutched at his throat as he collapsed onto his knees, writhing in agony but no sound came out...holy shit, is the inside of that barrier a vacuum?

Not gonna lie, that’s pretty brutal too. Guess the newfound confidence they’ve shown hasn’t been baseless. Looks like I won’t need to worry about them, and can focus on-...hm?

What’s going on? Rifts are opening up, and the few remaining Devils in the area are retreating already. This doesn’t make sense...surely this isn’t a reaction to us beating them, is it?

After all, while they’re not much of a threat to us, most other people across the rest of the world are getting massacred. I’m not sure what’s going on, but somehow, I’m getting a really bad feeling about this...

"Watch out, behind you!" Called out Leonardo, as he fired out a blast of sand and hit the Devil behind me, before I swiftly spun around and slammed my foot onto its chest while simultaneously maxing out my Reinforce technique briefly.

We had been in the middle of a meeting with the higher ups, right before reports of what was going on in the world began flooding in.

Unfortunately, without Neo, all the Category 0s are stuck here in Spain, along with myself and Kiyana as well. Serafine is here as well, fighting alongside us.

On the bright side, we have plenty of those light energy-infused bombs at hand, since this is where she’s been making them. However, this all happened so suddenly that we didn’t have the chance to grab enough of the bombs, and there’s too many of these Devils for even one of us to go back inside and get more bombs.

We’re really struggling here. Well, Serafine, not so much...it barely took a few minutes for it to become painfully apparent that she’s more powerful than the Category 0s. The 0s are managing to hold their own against individual Devils, but struggle when they get surrounded.

So we’ve all ended up pairing up to prevent any one of us from getting overwhelmed by the enemy, but even with that, we’re making far slower progress in cutting them down than Serafine is.

Her Magic is so versatile, and she’s pretty quick on her feet too. As three Devils surrounded her and began to close in, she formed several shards of manifested energy around her and then fired them out.

The Devils were too close to evade, unable to avoid getting skewered by several of the shards, before two of them turned to ash. She then formed a whip and cracked it at the remaining Devil, wrapping around his neck before she yanked her arm back to pull him in towards her.

She then formed a compressed sphere of slicing wind blades and unleashed it as the Devil closed in, tearing him to shreds in the blink of an eye.

"Man, I’m really starting to lose confidence in myself," Sighed Leonardo wryly.

"Complaining will not accomplish anything, just keep fighting!" Responded Elise, as she evaded a Devil’s attack, placed her hand on his chest and turned him to ice in a instant, giving it a kick to shatter it to pieces.

"This is starting to get really ann-...huh? They’re, uh...they’re leaving," Remarked Kechik in bemusement.

"Strange...why would they retreat so soon? It has not been long since they began their attack," Frowned Osiris warily.

He’s got a point...the timing of this retreat makes no sense at all. What are they upto...?
