Chapter 236: Chapter 235 - Invasion(Part 1)

Point-of-View: Laplace

———————————————————————————

"Oh, that was quite close. But you’re still far too weak, Neo Cronje," I shook my head with a laugh, before smirking as I felt it happen, "Ah, right on schedule."

The bridge has been opened, Hell has begun its invasion. The bridge is open in Sri Lanka, but Satan is also opening several smaller rifts throughout the world, and Devils are flooding in through them.

In addition to what’s happening in the living world, I know everything that’s happening in Hell, Heaven and even the Mirror Dimension. It will be a while before Heaven intervenes, they still have far too many souls to sort through.

When people die, Heaven sorts and processes their souls, reincarnating most of them, and turning some who lived especially virtuous lives into Angels.

If too many souls are left unprocessed for an extended period of time, the separations between the dimensions will collapse. And that’s an outcome that even Satan wouldn’t want, because such a collapse would mean the end of all life in every dimension.

Preventing that outcome is Heaven’s main priority, so until they’ve done enough to ensure that risk is minimized, they won’t be able to intervene in the living world in order to stop Hell’s invasion.

I must say, this is a pretty different approach that Satan is taking than during his previous invasions...instead of a wholesale massacre, he has instructed his troops to only kill those who are genuine threats, and those who refuse to surrender.

Those who aren’t a threat and surrender to the Demons will be ruled over instead of eliminated. Interesting...I suppose the fact that Satan even considered doing it like this must be because he’s confident that Heaven won’t be intervening any time soon.

After all, over two billion deaths in what was such a short period of time is completely unprecedented, Heaven has never experienced such an influx of souls...and I can confirm that their hands are well and truly tied right now.

"How amusing, this promises to be wildly entertaining," I chuckled gleefully.

"Wh-what...are you...talking about?" Neo responded weakly, trying to get back on his feet.

"Nothing that concerns you at the moment, I was just talking to myself. I will tell you this much though...if you don’t hurry up and break out of here, you just might be too late," I smirked, before leaving my Dimension without giving him a chance to respond.

I think I’ll spice things up a bit...I’m sort of stealing ideas here, but I think randomly teleporting a bunch of people to different parts of the world, into areas where the Devils have appeared in, should make things more fun to watch. freeweɓnovel.cѳm

I’m teleporting the Outliers and all Meta-Humans affiliated with Harmony for sure...along with several other notable humans, some who have shown remarkable mastery over their powers in a short time, and others who simply just hold positions of power and celebrity.

There, that should do it. Ahh, their reactions are great, look at them panic in confusion! Hah, I’m having so much fun! And it only promises to get better from here, how fantastic!

Now, then, what should I do next? Do I side with someone? Maybe I’ll side against Hell for a change? It should be pretty amusing to see how the other Deities will react to me fighting alongside them again!

Or should I simply just play the role of observer and see how this goes? Well, there’s no need to make a final decision right away, things are only just getting started, after all...depending on how this war goes, I can simply just decide on impulse...

Point-of-View: Zoraiz Rafayet

———————————————————————————

Huh? What the...? Where am I!? Titan had started freaking out, saying that the Demons were here, and right before I could respond, I blinked and found myself in a completely different place.

Damn, it’s hot here...I’m in a desert somewhere. I let out a strained sigh as I realized what just happened. This has to be the doing of Laplace. Technically speaking, it could also be the portal user of Chaos, but that seems unlikely.

For one thing, it’s unlikely that Chaos had any way of knowing where I was. I suppose it’s possible that Laplace has sided with them and-...no, there’s no use in speculating, I need to find a way to get out of this situation.

"Is that you, Zoraiz?" Came a familiar voice from behind me.

"Huh? What are you doing here?" I responded in surpise, before adding, "Actually, never mind. You were probably warped here out of the blue too, weren’t you, Adelmira?"

"Yeah...I was with X and Bastet, and then Bastet said that Hell had opened a bridge in Sri Lanka, and the next thing I knew, I was here!" She explained, looking bewildered and a bit frantic.

Weird, she looks a bit wobbly...maybe because she’s scared?

"Calm down, we need to compose ourselves and figure out how to get out of this situation. Deserts aren’t exactly a fun place to be, especially if we have no idea where we are," I pointed out objectively.

"I-...yeah. Yeah, you’re right, this is no time to be freaking out," She nodded, as she smacked the sides of her face with her hands, before glancing back at me, "You look like you’re in pretty bad shape. You’re covered in dirt, your hair is longer and your face is all fuzzy. And, uh...you also kinda stink."

Ouch. Also, she definitely seems a bit off compared to usual. Like, she’s generally more shy and awkward around me and the other guys. Especially when she’s on her own, without X.

"It’s not like I could help that. I’ve been in the Amazon rainforest for the past six weeks or however long it’s been. I haven’t had a change of clothes or a way to shave, so excuse me if I don’t smell good," I huffed indignantly, before adding, "You said you were with X and Bastet, didn’t you? Which means you’ve been training at the campsite, right?"

"Yeah, that’s right."

"In other words, you’ve had full access to necessities and basic luxuries for all this time. So-...," I began.

"Alright, I get it, geez! My bad," She apologized sheepishly.

"Anyway...which way should we go?" I mused, looking around grimly.

"I’m not getting a signal," Frowned Adelmira, stumbling a bit as she tapped on her phone.

Wait, don’t tell me...

"Hey, are you drunk or something?" I inquired in bemusement.

"H-huh? Well, uh...I did drink a small glass of alcohol, but most of it was cola, so I didn’t have that much, I don’t think," She shrugged wryly.

"That right? Well, whatever...we should start moving, but if we pick the wrong direction, we’ll be-...hm?" I trailed off, as I spotted some figures headed this way through the air, in the distance.

Are those birds or something? Maybe there’s an oasis or something in the direction they’re coming from, that’s-...okay, those are most definitely not birds.

"Hey, what are those? They look like Monsters. But those wings and horns look like Demons," Frowned Adelmira warily.

I quickly used Appraisal as they got within clear sight, a few dozen meters away from us.

"They have Auras, but most of their Auras are a bit less dense than ours. Some are on par with or slightly superior to ours. I’m guessing...that these are Devils, basically Hell’s foot soldiers. They’re supposed to be pretty powerful themselves, let’s find out how we measure up against them," I surmised with a grimace, as I got ready to intercept them.

They’ve spotted us and are now headed right this way...based on that reaction, they didn’t know we were here, they just happened to come by this way.

They circled around before landing, surrounding us...there’s eight of them in total, and I can feel their murderous intent.

"Surrender to us or die, humans. It is in your best interest to yield to us," One of them stated bluntly, the one with the most dense Aura.

Creepy, he’s got three legs, two in front like normal, and a third one where a tail would normally be. He had a hunched back, two arms with four, clawed fingers and two downward curved horns on his head.

He had dark red, leathery skin, sharp red eyes and short, tusk-like fangs. His wings were retractable, disappearing into his shoulder blades when he landed.

"Or what?" I responded dryly, as Adelmira moved in close and turned her back to me.

Can I rely on her to cover my back? I don’t have a choice but to put my faith in her ability. I really hope she’s been training effectively for the last month and a half or so...

"Or this," Replied the Devil, as the claws on his fingers extended to about ten inches in length, and a row of spikes burst out along his spine, "It would appear that you do not intend to surrender. In that case, we will take great pleasure in killing y-...!"

"You were saying?" I responded, as I met his gaze with a raised eyebrow.

"Im...impossible...," He gasped in agony, before I violently yanked my arm back out of his chest, tearing out his core.

Wow, it’s a lot bigger, and way more fragile, than the cores of the Demons of Sin. As I effortlessly crushed the core, the Devil stumbled back with a weak cry, before turning to ash and disappearing.

"Now, then, who’s nex-...oh, wow," I blurted out, as I turned around to see the other Devils all having been cut in half, just in time to see their top halves hit the sand with light thuds.

Some of them were turning to ash, guess their cores must have gotten badly damaged.

"Huh, they’re pretty weak, guess I was worried for nothing," Adelmira mused thoughtfully.

...okay. Looks like I was worried for nothing too...I think I’ll be just fine trusting her to cover my back...
