Chapter 230: Chapter 229 - Provoking

Point-of-View: Inoka Fonseka

———————————————————————————

"How about this!?" I exclaimed, as I abruptly closed in on Lux and swung a kick at her head, which she swiftly ducked under, my heel lightly grazing the top of her head.

And the next thing I knew, she’d grabbed my ankle and flung me away towards the side of a cliff, my back slamming onto it with a painful impact as I let out a stifled gasp and collapsed onto my knees.

"That was an impressive burst of speed, however, your attacks remain too weak," She replied, walking over as I healed myself with a sigh, before asking me as she approached, "How did you do that, that sudden, sharp increase in speed just then?"

"Oh, I changed the shape of the bones in my calves to a spring-like sharp, and made my leg muscles more elastic as well. It’s not great for increasing speed while running, but it makes a drastic difference when it comes to jumps and leaps," I replied, as I reverted my legs back to normal.

A little over a week had passed since I came here, I think it’s the 20th of November now. And a few hours after I first encountered Lux, I tried to contact Neo, but to no avail.

That’s when Laplace showed up to say that Neo’s preoccupied with something, Lux was furious to see him, and he left shortly after showing up. His appearance seemed to light a fire under Lux, and she became a lot more serious about this training.

A few days later, once she had calmed down and was no longer in a bad mood, I let my curiosity get the better of me and asked her why she had gotten so triggered...she replied that it seems like Laplace might side with Hell again and try to kill more Deities.

I can’t say I don’t get it, his powers are truly terrifying. The only way to counter him is to have the Space Dragon Deity cancel out his techniques by clashing with the same techniques.

But that’s not so simple...for one thing, it’ll leave the Space Dragon vulnerable, and that’s far too risky with Laplace’s unique ability to know everything that’s happening everywhere all at once.

The general assumption is that the Elemental Dragon Deities are slightly more powerful that the Rival Elemental Deities, however...Laplace is the exception to that rule.

In terms of factors like strength, speed and Aura capacity, he’s pretty much on par with the other Elemental Deities, but his powers make him possibly the most dangerous of them all. So it really sucks that he went rogue.

Anyway, regarding my training...it’s actually been going great. I’ve been making progress at an amazing speed, once Lux fully understood what I was doing with my healing powers, she gave me an array of ideas as to how to alternatively apply it.

And she’s already thoroughly mastered the unique application of the Light Skill that I’ve been using, she can wield it better than I can already. Which is kinda disheartening, but then, if it wasn’t for me, she wouldn’t have been able to take the first step.

During the nights, when I go to sleep, she flies off, apparently to use her powers to strengthen the other Deities by improving and reinforcing the structures of their bodies.

Kinda like what I did with the other Outliers, and just like how I did it, she’s been avoiding making any overly drastic changes. She confirmed my deduction that overdoing it will have negative side effects in the long run, possibly irreparable.

"I must say, I am glad you seeked me out, Inoka. I never imagined applying my abilities in such an intricate manner, I am grateful to you," She remarked, as I dusted myself off.

"No need to thank me, I can tell that I’ve gotten a lot stronger thanks to your training, and it’s only been, like, ten days so far. It would’ve likely taken several years to get this strong by training on my own," I replied with a grin.

"Perhaps it is time that we Deities, as a collective, reassess our opinion of humans. Myself and a few others have always viewed humans favourably, but I must admit, until I met you, I quite underestimated your kind. However, there are others among us who see humans as pitiful, lowly creatures.

They do not hold any particular animosity towards humans-...well, that has changed a bit recently, after Vapora and Cereberus were attacked...-but at best, they believe that humans are helpless and unworthy of their respect," She sighed with a shake of her head.

"Well, if we manage to play a part in repelling the upcoming Hell invasion, that could force them to admit that they were wrong. Actions speak louder than words and whatnot," I shrugged in response.

"Indeed. Now, then, you should procure yourself some food to eat, your body will require sustenance after such rigorous training," She suggested as she patted my shoulder.

Yeah, that’s been the worst part of this whole thing...the living situation. I’ve managed to find some wild berries, but they’re not filling enough on their own, so I’ve been forced to hunt animals to eat.

Starting a fire to cook the meat after killing and skinning the animals has been a real pain as well, and then there’s the sleeping situation, that’s been especially uncomfortable. And don’t even get me started on the bathroom situation...

"Come on, get up already. What, are you done?" I sighed in disappointment.

"Y-you damned human...!" Growled Geod, blood trickling down his scales around several spots as he struggled to get back on his feet.

It’s been ten days since I came here, and while I was busy fighting him, the Rival Space Skill Deity showed up, told me that Neo’s preoccupied, provoked Geod and then left.

That made Geod even more furious than he already was, and he tried to take it out on me as a result. It hasn’t been easy living out here, he’s constantly trying to attack and kill me, so whenever I have to sleep, I need to make sure I find a good hiding spot first.

Of course, I can’t let myself fall into a deep sleep or I’m screwed, so I haven’t gotten much sleep at all over the last week and a half or so. And it sucks having to hunt for food again, especially since there isn’t an abundance of prey for me to hunt.

Having gotten used to eating without having to hunt for it again, I’m finding hunting to be a real hassle. Fortunately, for water, there’s a stream here, so that’s been fine.

I’m worn out and exhausted, but somehow, it feels like my senses are working at beyond their best. About five days ago, Geod managed to kill me...that’s when my Nine Lives power kicked in and resurrected me.

With the brief, drastic power boost I gained upon resurrection, I proceeded to beat the shit out of Geod, and even once the temporary boost faded, I was still a fair bit stronger and faster than I was before.

And for the last couple of days, I’ve been pretty thoroughly kicking this loser Dragon’s ass, it’s been awesome. My Aura has increased a bit too after the resurrection, so I’m more than firing on all cylinders.

My body feels heavy and fatigued, my head feels kinda cloudy and I’m covered in bruises and scratches, and some of bones have sustained minor fractures.

Not gonna lie, I’m in a fair bit of pain...but even so, I feel more driven and confident than ever, I can feel myself getting stronger with each passing day.

"Come at me, would you? Or what, are you afraid of me now?" I taunted him with a smirk.

He may be powerful, but he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"I will kill you as many times as it takes!" He declared furiously, as a massive wave of earth spikes came bursting out towards me.

I unleashed and expanded the shadowy streaks of my Dark Cheetah form, smashing the incoming wave of rising earth to pieces, right before Geod emerged from the dust cloud and closed in my with an enraged roar.

Way too straightforward and predictable, don’t insult me, you overgrown lizard! I swiftly drew back my arm, swirling dark energy around my fist before driving it forward with all my strength, slamming it square onto the middle of his snout with immense force.

A few of his front teeth snapped off, before he vanished from my sight as the impact sent him flying back at a breakneck speed in the blink of an eye, his body slamming onto the side of a cliff with a devastating impact, several chunks of rock breaking off and falling down onto him.

"This is pathetic, that all you got?" I called out in an attempt to provoke him.

"I...I have had enough. You are not worth my time," He growled, as he spread his wings out and began to fly.

"Huh? Is that so? You know what that sounds like to me? It sounds like you’re so afraid of me now that you’re trying to run away with your tail tucked between your legs. I thought you were a Dragon, but it turns out that you’re just a glorified chicken," I scoffed condescendingly.

"What...did you just call me?" He inquired icily, before snarling viciously, "H-how dare you!? Very well, then, be careful what you wish for, human! I shall make sure that I kill you, even if it is the last thing I ever do!"

Heh, he’s way too easy, I’m playing him like a fiddle. Now, to toss him around like a ragdoll...
