Chapter 229: Chapter 228 - Thunderbird

"U-um...hi," I blurted out nervously, as the Deity stared at me with narrowed eyes.
This is so nerve-wracking, please don’t kill me...
"A human? Are you lost? Did you come in here looking for shelter from the cold? Please, feel free to make yourself comfortable in here, I will not hurt you," Came the response, in a friendly tone...oh, that voice sounds female, I just assumed that the Thunderbird was male.
"Oh, um, thanks a lot, that’s very-...I mean, no! I’m not lost or looking for shelter! Actually, I came here seeking you," I replied, before adding, "You’re, um, the Rival Electro Deity, the Thunderbird, right? Uh, you don’t like, dislike humans or anything like that, do you?"
"What? No, of course not! I find you humans to be...rather adorable, not unlike how humans see small animals such as cats and dogs," She explained with a shake of her head, before adding, "And yes, I am the being you call Thunderbird. But my name is Kw-Uhnx-Wa."
Yeah...I’m not even going to try to pronounce that. I have to say though, she looks so regal...her body was actually kinda humanoid at about eight meters tall, she had arms and legs with wings on her back, and was covered with bright yellow feathers with blue streaks in some spots.
"Wait, you see us as, like, pets or something? Even people who are evil or whatever?" I responded in surprise.
"Well, do you like all dogs, even a feral, rabid one that would try to kill you?" She pointed out.
"Huh, I didn’t think of it like that...yeah, you’ve got a good point there," I nodded, before getting back to the matter at hand, "Anyway, uh...the reason I came here is to ask you to train me. See, with the Hell invasion imminent, I need to get stronger in order to be able to fight the Demons."
"Ah, I see. That means you must be aware of the fact that clashing with a Deity strengthens you humans significantly, yes?" She surmised in response.
"Yeah, that’s right. So...would you be open to that, or...?" I trailed off hopefully.
What do I do if she refuses? Neo didn’t give me anything to offer her, like Bastet with the petting thing.
"Sure, I don’t mind."
Huh? Just like that?
"Oh, I didn’t expect you to agree so easily," I remarked in surprise.
"As I said, I am fond of humans. And I have previously done so in the past, in return for those whom I accept as students allowing me to pet, caress and dote on them," She surmised in response.
Ah. So that’s the catch...talk about ironic, Bastet’s condition was that we pet him, but now, I’m going to be the one who’s gonna be petted. Gotta say, I’m glad this Deity is a female...
"Uh, sure...that’s totally fine by me, you can do that stuff to your heart’s content if it’ll mean that you will train me," I agreed after a slight bit of hesitation.
"Oh, excellent! It has been quite a long time since I last interacted with a human so closely! Let’s start right away, you may attack me and I shall defend, in order to gauge your current capabilities," She remarked, as she headed out the cave.
I followed after her as she walked out of the cave, stepping out onto the snowy ground and turning to face me, an expectant look on her face. Okay, uh, guess that’s my cue to attack her. Here goes nothing...
I maxed out Reflex Shock and activated Electric Coat as well...not sure how effective this’ll be against an Electro Deity, but guess there’s only one way to find out. Here goes nothing...
I took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, before locking my gaze onto her and shot forward at top speed. Her eyes widened slightly as I began to close in, before I swiftly swept my right foot across the ground to kick up a cloud of snow in front of her.
I then zipped across and made a beeline to her right, leaping up as I closed in with my leg arched back and rapidly swinging it towards the side of her head, channeling a bit more Aura to my leg, the air around it crackling as I charged it up.
She quickly raised her arm to block my attack, my foot slamming onto her forearm, before the force of the impact send her sliding a few meters across the snow to her left.
Weird, what was that feeling upon contact...it felt like the energy I was channeling into my Electric Coat and the additional energy I put into my leg go siphoned off a bit. Don’t tell me...
"Well, that was surprising...however, I should inform you, you are better off striking me with only your physical strength. Any lightning or electricity has no adverse effect on me, such attacks only make me stronger as I am able to absorb them with ease," She informed me.
Oh. Looks like my hunch was right, that’s what I felt when I kicked her. Well, that makes things tough. Guess using Electric Coat will only work against me.
Fine, I accept this challenge...if I can’t use my strongest weapon, it’ll force me to improve on my weaker areas. As far as training goes, I can’t possibly imagine a better handicap...

"Weird, he isn’t answering his phone," I frowned, as I called Neo’s phone for the third time. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Hm, maybe we scared him off a bit too much earlier," Shrugged X in response.
"Hope not. As traumatizing as that was, I can’t afford to just sit here and do nothing while everyone else is getting stronger," I frowned apprehensively.
"It is strange...he should know that ignoring you would only piss us off even more. Maybe try again after like five or ten minutes, he might be busy with something," She suggested after mulling it over.
"Yeah, I guess you’re right. Well, in that case-...hm? Oh, look, he’s here," I remarked as I spotted a portal opening up, starting to head towards it before halting with a frown as a strange, unfamiliar figure walked out of it.
"What the-...!? Who the hell are you!?" Frowned X, the portal abruptly closing as she activated her Nullification.
A tall, thin grey figure with long, slender arms...hold on, I think I’ve seen this thing before...
"Hello, I am-...," He began with a smirk.
"Out of the way!" Suddenly came Bastet’s voice, sounding urgent and absolutely furious, as a black blur shot across in my peripheral and closing in on the figure in an instant.
"Now I remember, that’s Laplace, the Rival Space Deity!" Realized X, as Bastet closed in on him and swung his claws at his throat.
Laplace swiftly sprang back in response, evading the slash and getting some distance.
"You don’t want to do that...a minor Deity like you stands no chance against me, even with this annoying Nullification power active. Stand down if you don’t want to die," Laplace warned him.
"Why are you here!? Your bety presence disgusts me, you are not welcome!" Snapped Bastet with an aggressive hiss, the fur on the back of his neck standing up on end.
"I’m not here to fight, just thought there’s something you should all know. Don’t expect to see Neo Cronje again any time soon, I have him somewhat...preoccupied at the moment. Now, then, that’s all I came here to say, so...if you all don’t want to die, turn off this Nullification so that I can leave," He remarked nonchalantly.
"No, do not do as he says," Interjected Bastet immediately, before turning to Laplace warily, "Just walk away until you are out of the range of the Nullification."
"Oh, right, that works too," He shrugged in response, "No need to be so on edge, I have no intention of stirring up any trouble here today."
He then walked away until he was out of my range, a portal swallowing him up as he left, before I let out a quiet sigh of relief.
"Okay, he’s gone, that’s good. Wait, no...if he’s done something to Neo, then how am I supposed to find a Deity to train me?" I frowned in dismay.
"Tch...very well, then, I shall train you. It is possible that this outcome is his intention, however, there is also the possibility that he did this in order to ensure that our forces will be weaker overall by the time Hell invades. It is certainly possible that he is once again supporting them," Grimaced Bastet, looking reluctant and conflicted. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Oh, nice. That worked out. Since I already know him, it’s a lot more appealing that going to some random Deity I know nothing about. I won’t fall behind the others, not if I can help it...!
