Chapter 209: Chapter 208 - Stalked
Point-of-View: Arisu Kimura
———————————————————————————
"Well, so much for Ash, huh?" Sighed Wrest wistfully.
"It’s probably for the best, considering that he removed the Condition that he was manipulated into placing on himself. His true self is a real monster," I pointed out dryly.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. He was absolutely frightening before they suppressed his emotions and personality," Nodded Wrest in agreement.
It’s the 15th of October today, and a few days ago, we came across reports of what happened in Egypt.
Ash and the Outlier Luna Castillo, or Astra, had been running around torturing and killing random people, but then a couple of Harmony’s Outliers and a Category 0 managed to put a stop to them.
Ash was severely crippled in the fight and was taken into Harmony custody, but Astra managed to escape by causing a sewer explosion and slipping away in the ensuing chaos.
What a waste of immense talent, Ash was a true prodigy. It’s too bad his personality was so messed up, he could’ve been one of the best if he’d actually had any discipline.
Anyway, Wrest and I had been sent out shopping, and were currently in a grocery store. It’s such a pain, Glenn could easily just steal a bunch of stuff using his portals.
But Dracula insisted that we should keep a low profile since the Deities might be after us, assuming that Bastet has communicated Chaos’ involvement with Hell.
So, yeah, since there are only two portal users in the world, Glenn needs to keep his powers under wraps in order for us to avoid detection.
Of course, thanks to the new laws that require anyone not affiliated with Harmony to get a license to use their powers, we all have to keep low profiles when in public.
Man, this really sucks. A couple of weeks ago, we’d moved to a new hideout, in Tokyo. And since I’m Japanese, I’m the one who goes out whenever necessary, as I’ll blend in the best.
At least, that’s the justification the others use. Which is total bullshit, Anarchy is Chinese, so she’d blend in just as well as I would.
But when I pointed that out, she shrugged it off by saying that, since she doesn’t speak Japanese, she’ll draw attention if someone speaks to her.
As for why Wrest is tagging along with me, it’s because he speaks a bit of Japanese. We’re both wearing wigs, and he was wearing makeup to cover the dragon tattoo on his cheek.
"Okay, I think that’s everything we needed to get. Let’s hurry up and pay for this stuff so that we can get back already," I remarked, feeling worn out.
"Yeah, sounds good to me. Maybe we can find a secluded spot from which I can teleport us back without being noticed," He suggested, as we headed for the cashier.
"Bad idea, you’ll need several jumps to make it back to the hideout, if we’re spotted even once by so much as a single person, it’ll screw things up," I shook my head reluctantly.
The hideout is about two kilometers from here, so not the shortest walk. But I really don’t want any trouble, too much has been happening too often lately, I need a break.
As we got to the cashier and he bagged up the stuff we’d bought, we paid him and headed out of the store, before making our way back to the hideout.
Ugh, is a little peace and quiet too much to ask for? All I wanted when I was in Eden was to work my way to the top and then live the easy life while letting my underlings carry out any bothersome work that comes my way.
Ever since I went after Aurora in Namibia, things have just gotten worse and worse. Now there’s someone who I definitely don’t want to ever cross paths with again.
Based on some of the clips I saw of the incident in Egypt, she defeated Ash with the utmost of ease, and as much as I hate to admit it, he’s stronger than I am.
And more notably, she managed to scare away a Dragon Deity, one of the most powerful beings in existence. I definitely don’t stand a chance against someone like her.
Okay, I’m getting a bit off track. Getting back to the whole ’is a little peace and quiet too much to ask for’ thing I mentioned, the reason for that is I just noticed something annoying...
"Someone’s following us," I grumbled quietly, feeling irritated.
"Yeah, I noticed too. There’s at least five of them, possibly six or seven at most," Responded Wrest in a wary whisper.
"Let’s head into that block of buildings that are scheduled for demolition, it should be deserted," I subtly nodded across the street, in the direction of the area I was referring to.
"There might be some homeless bums there, it’s pretty likely," He pointed out, as we headed that way.
"We’ll just have to kill them if they see us," I shrugged in response. freёwebnovel.com
We walked in through an alley between two of the abandoned buildings, and sure enough, our pursuers followed. It’s likely they’ve realized that we’re onto them, which means that they must be pretty confident.
So, they’re either strong or they’re really stupid. We should get ready to call in some back up in case things get tough.
Looks like this alley connects to a maze of alleys between these buildings. Perfect, we don’t have to worry about anyone stumbling over here by accident. And I’m not seeing any homeless people anywhere in sight either.
Alright, I think we’re in deep enough to face this without worrying about being seen by any civilians. Whoever these people are, they’re gonna pay for putting me in a bad mood.
"You can come on out, you clumsy stalkers. Come on out so that we can kill you," Called out Wrest with a smirk.
"That voice...you’re Wrest Seizel, aren’t you?" Responded one of our pursuers, as they showed themselves.
Seven of them, huh? Hm...a couple of them look vaguely familiar to me, where have I seen them before?
"And you, you’re Arisu Kimura, right?" Added another of them, narrowing his eyes at me.
"Tch, what was even the point of these stupid disguises if we’re recognized so easily?" I grumbled in annoyance.
"So, who are you people, anyway?" Inquired Wrest curiously.
"Ohh, now I remember...I thought I recognized a couple of you. You’re all among the Eden members who were abandoned, right?" I surmised as my eyes widened in realization.
"Yeah, that’s right...when we recognized you, we were hopeful. But the fact that you’re with the traitor Wrest, means that you’ve betrayed Eden too," Growled one of them.
"No, not really, I just picked a side to join after Harmony destroyed Eden for good. Can’t betray something that no longer exists," I pointed out objectively.
"Hey, out of curiosity, how exactly did you recognize Arisu, anyway?" Wrest asked them.
"Simple. I’d recognize that ass anywhere, a wig isn’t enough to throw me off...that perfectly toned ass in a short skirt, there was no way I could ever mistake such a familiar sight," One of them stated smugly.
Huh?
"Hm, yeah, that makes sense...you do have an exceptionally nice ass," Nodded Wrest thoughtfully, as he patted my butt a couple of times.
"Big mistake...for that, I’m gonna break your fingers and wrist after this," I remarked icily as I smacked his hand away, glancing at the seven who’d now surrounded us, charging up Elemental attacks.
"I’d like to see you try," Smirked Wrest, as he suddenly teleported behind one of them, grabbed his head and swiftly snapped his neck with a violent twist, killing him.
I then dodged as another of them, a young woman, fired out a water blast at me before racing towards me while charging up lightning in her fists.
Hm, based on her movements and output, I’d say that she’s...Category 1, at best. Does she really think she stands a chance against me? How adorable. Oh, sorry, I misspoke, I meant delusional.
I swiftly evaded her attack as she leapt at me with her fists drawn back, slipping behind her and springing onto her back, before placing my hand over her mouth.
I then activated Asphyxiate, sucking out all the air in her lungs and eliciting a sharp gasp from her before I blasted fire down her throat.
She collapsed onto the ground as smoke billowed out of her mouth, her lungs nice and charred. I then ducked as another of these suicidal fools swung a wind blade at my neck from behind, before swiftly spinning around and reaching up, grabbing the top of his head.
"Now, die," I hissed coldly, as I activated Incinerate.
This technique involves burning a target to ash by manifesting flames across and entire their entire body simultaneously...it requires direct physical contact and a high level of mastery and control, which of course, I have in spades.
Which is exactly why them challenging me is so incredibly stupid. They simply don’t stand a chance. Before he could even cry out in pain, his entire body was on fire, his insides burning and melting as his skin and hair were scorched off in the blink of an eye.
I then spotted one of the remaining few start to run away, I swiftly chased after him as I pressed my hands together, charging up a negative slash and taking aim.
As I locked on and fired, my attack shot towards him rapidly and struck his waist, a cry of agony escaping his lips as he got sliced in half, blood spurting out of his lower half as his top half fell onto the ground, blood pouring out onto the concrete.
"Heh, I managed to take out one more than you did," Grinned Wrest, as he tore the head off of the last one, tossing it towards a pile of garbage bags with a smirk.
"Good for you. Now, then...give me your right hand, would you? I’ve got some fingers to break," I remarked with a glare, as I cracked my knuckles.
"Is that right? Well, in that case...catch me if you can!" He exclaimed tauntingly, as he teleported several meters away.
You know what, I change my mind...I’m gonna break a whole lot more than just one hand of his...
