Chapter 186: Chapter 185 - Too Chaotic

Point-of-View: Zoraiz Rafayet

———————————————————————————

"Watch out, get down!" I exclaimed, as I shot towards Alexis and swung my arm across as she ducked, slamming my forearm onto the throat of a Hobgoblin than had sprang up behind her.

"Thanks for that. There’s way too many of these things," She sighed in response, as she fired out a lightning bolt past my left shoulder, hitting a Lizardman than was creeping up on me.

"At least we’re almost done here," I remarked, trying to look on the bright side, as I swung my foot up and slammed my heel down onto the head of a Goblin that leapt at my legs.

"Yeah, but who knows how long it’ll be before we’re sent on another assignment to deal with a Monster outbreak somewhere else?" She grumbled in response, as she grabbed a Shadowraven by the face with a vicious electric spark and crackle, before slamming it onto the ground and splitting its head open, breaking its beak.

Alright, I think that was the last of them, I don’t see any more Monsters around...I let out a tired sigh as I sat down on the ground, before Alexis walked over and sat behind me, resting her back against mine.

It’s the 20th of September, and we were currently in Christchurch, New Zealand, fighting on a rugby field where a bunch of Monsters had appeared. We were teamed up with a bunch of Category 1s, all of whom looked pretty worn out themselves.

"So, how likely do you think it is that Chaos is involved in this?" I inquired, as Alexis began absent-mindedly tearing up some blades of glass and tossing them into the wind, watching them drift away.

"I thought so at first, but if that was the case, Anarchy-...or rather, Liling...-surely would’ve taken credit for it at this point, right?" She pointed out in response.

Yeah, I suppose that’s true. If Chaos was responsible, Liling surely would’ve posted something online, declaring that she caused this. But there haven’t been any posts from her in a while, not since Egypt.

"But if it’s not Chaos, then who or what exactly is causing these Monster outbreaks?" I wondered with a frown, before taking out my phone, "Well, I doubt we can figure it out just by guessing. I’ll let Neo know that we’re done here, so that he can come pick us up."

"Hope he doesn’t take too long, I’m so tired," She sighed as she stretched her arms out.

"Oh, he’ll take his time for sure. All we can do is wait for-...woah...," I muttered in disbelief, as I opened up my social media after messaging Neo.

"Hm? What’s up?" Inquired Alexis in response.

"Uh...some clips of a Monster are going viral," I responded, wide-eyed.

Holy shit, is that a...?

"Huh? So? With the number of Monster outbreaks all over the world, of course there’s going to be-...wait, hold on a second, Mirror Dimension Monsters can’t be seen by normal people, and they don’t show up in recordings," She realized, as she turned around and peered over my shoulder curiously.

She’s too close...I can feel her breath brushing against my cheek. I did my best to keep my cool as I shifted my attention back to my screen.

"So, obviously that can’t be a Mirror Dimension Monster, meaning that-...," I began.

"Holy crap, it’s a Dragon!" She exclaimed in bewilderment as she got a look at my screen, getting the attention of the Category 1s we were teamed up with.

"Did she just say a Dragon?"

"What’s going on?"

"It’s probably just a Wyvern."

"No, that can’t be right. You can’t capture Monsters on video, remember?"

"Oh, right. Wait, then does that mean it’s an actual Dragon!? As in, one of the Dragon Deities!?"

Side note, a Wyvern is a Dragon-like creature from the Mirror Dimension...but those things are way smaller than the creature in these viral videos.

"Look, it seems to be attacking the area around it...it could be killing Monsters, which would definitely make it a Deity," Remarked Alexis, as the Dragon stomped around the area and blasted out flames from its jaws.

"Then, this is a good thing, right? If Bastet is anything to go by, Deities seem to despise Monsters," I responded hopefully.

"Not necessarily. According to historical records, the Dragon Deities are more like forces of nature, if they come across Monsters, they’ll attack in full force. They won’t attack humans directly, of course, but they don’t care about any collateral damage they cause or whether people die because of their actions. Well, except the Light Dragon, that one’s fond of humans. But the others are neutral," Chimed in one of the Category 1s, as they all crowded around me.

Ugh, come on, you’ve all got your own phones, this is really uncomfortable.

"Yeah, look closely, you can see some human corpses laying about," Added another of them, pointing them out.

Oh, he’s right, those are definitely dead bodies. Hm, Bastet was awoken mainly because Neo damaged the pyramid he was sleeping inside of...but he also mentioned sensing the presences of the Demons and Monsters.

One of the clips I saw showed this Dragon crawling out of a volcano, but the volcano itself didn’t look damaged or anything...which means it was solely drawn out by the presence of the Monsters.

And with Monster outbreaks erupting all across the world, it’s likely that this won’t be the last Deity we see any time soon...shit’s about to hit the ceiling fan, and soon...

Point-of-View: Anarchy/Liling Jin

"Ugh, this really sucks...Monsters keep showing up inside this place, we can’t even sleep peacefully," Grumbled Wrest irritably.

"Relax, they’ve stopped now that Drac is partially unleashing his Aura to cover the area in and around the building," I responded optimistically.

The Auras of Vampires, like Deities, Demons and Angels, repels Monsters and keeps them away. Of course, Dracula can’t fully unleash his Aura. Given how immense it is, we’ll risk giving ourselves away to Harmony.

"What exactly is causing this?" Frowned Dracula, looking pretty annoyed himself.

Constantly keeping your Aura unleashed, and having to maintain it at a certain level, is pretty exhausting, it’s no wonder he’s all cranky. freēwēbnovel.com

"I think I have an idea of what the cause might be...in Eden’s historical records, I’ve read that the last time Satan opened a bridge between Hell and the living world, leading up to that, Monster outbreaks inexplicably began occurring all over the world," Chimed in Arisu.

"Okay...what does that mean?" Responded Afro with a confused tilt of his head.

"Oh, I get it. Satan’s rifts must have weakened the fabric of space, meaning that the Mirror Dimension Monster can more easily sense Meta-Humans and other sources of energy, meaning that they can breach through to the living world with less effort, right?" Surmised Lance, as I came to the same realization.

"Huh...well, how about that? Sounds like these Monster outbreaks aren’t stopping anytime soon," I laughed in amusement.

"Since it affects us too, I don’t quite see the funny side," Sighed Wrest in exasperation.

"I mean, it’s chaotic," I pointed out wryly.

"A bit too chaotic for my taste," Countered Dracula with a shake of his head.

"Too bad Anti-Teleportation Fields can’t block Mirror Dimension rifts," Sighed Glenn wistfully.

"From what I’ve seen on social media, a lot of people seem to think that Chaos is responsible for these Monster outbreaks," Remarked Arisu with a shrug.

"Well, yeah, who else are they gonna blame? And besides, since we’re working with Hell, we’re not totally uninvolved in this," Added Wrest objectively.

"Fair enough."

"Ooh, I wanna see what people are saying, conspiracy theories are fun!" Grinned Afro, as he took out his phone and began scrolling through.

"How are you always so-...?" Began Wrest with a wry smile.

"Holy shit, it’s a Dragon!" Exclaimed Afro, wide-eyed.

Huh?

"Did I hear that right?" Frowned Dracula warily.

"He’s right...it’s all over social media, videos of a Dragon in Hawaii, near the Mauna Loa volcano," Remarked Arisu, as she showed us her screen.

"Is that...one of the Dragon Deities?" Muttered Glenn in bemusement.

"I think so...Mirror Dimension Monsters don’t show up on video, and can’t be seen by normal people," I responded in wide-eyed fascination.

"Do not take this lightly. If a Dragon Deity, of all things, finds out that we’ve been working with Hell, we’ll be targeted for elimination with extreme prejudice," Grimaced Dracula with a look of concern.

"Wow, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were scared, Drac," Laughed Afro in response.

"Indeed, I am. The Dragon Deities are far more powerful than any Demon in the living world, even that Deity that showed up in Egypt pales in comparison to these beasts. The Dragon Deities are about as powerful as Demons are at their full power, which is double of their powers when summoned to the living world. Frankly, if we make an enemy of them, our deaths are all but assured," Stated Dracula grimly.

"Or...or we could manipulate them into thinking we’re enemies with Hell, and then, when we get the opportunity, boom, backstab!" I suggested with a smirk.

"Absolutely not, that is a terrible idea!" Snapped Dracula immediately, looking alarmed.

Aww...I thought it was pretty good though...
