Chapter 185: Chapter 184 - Inferno

Point-of-View: Neo Cronje

———————————————————————————

"I’m beat," I groaned, as I flopped onto a couch wearily, feeling completely and utterly exhausted.

"I don’t get it...why are there suddenly so many Monsters showing up everywhere?" Sighed Elise, as she lay sprawled on the floor, beads of sweat running down the sides of her face.

I was currently in France, on the 20th of September, a few days after those Monsters showed up in the Antarctican base. In the last few days or so, we’ve had an unprecedented number of Monster outbreaks, seemingly triggered out of nowhere. freēwebnovel.com

They were hordes of them appearing near our hidden bases, some even showing up inside the hidden bases like they did in Antarctica. That, despite the fact that no Auras have been unleashed in those areas.

But it’s not just in those areas, plenty have appeared in areas where no known Meta-Humans are present, leading to plenty of structural damage and deaths to regular humans, people who aren’t even able to see what’s killing them. It’s possible that the abandoned members of Eden are what’s causing the outbreaks in those areas.

Hundreds of different Monster species had shown up all over the world, which is really strange...especially since weaker Monsters need a stronger catalyst to trigger the breaches to this world from their Mirror Dimension.

So, naturally, we’ve more than had our hands full, having gotten almost no rest since this started happening. And so far, we have no idea of the cause for this.

The easiest assumption is that this is being caused by Chaos, but we haven’t seen any proof of that. Triggering Monster Outbreaks on this scale and at this rate without unleashing several Auras should be impossible to pull off manually.

I’d just gotten done helping Elise deal with a large outbreak of Monsters near the hidden base in France which she was stationed at, and I was seriously worn out.

I haven’t gotten more than four hours of sleep at any point during the last few days, and that went for the rest of the Category 0s too. All of the Outliers have been pretty busy helping with this too, after what happened in Antarctica.

Only a few Monsters have shown up near their campsite, but they’ve all been highly powerful Monster species. Fortunately, the Deity Bastet agreed to deal with any Monsters that appear there, so we’ve been able to assign the Outliers to handle outbreaks elsewhere.

I’m so freaking tired, like seriously-...hm? Oh, no...please, no, you’ve gotta be kidding me. I could feel my phone vibrating in my pocket...someone’s trying to contact me.

"Hm? Hey, if that’s the higher ups...tell them I’m injured or sick or something, and I won’t recover for at least five days," Groaned Elise, as I took out my phone reluctantly.

Sure, enough, it’s them. God damn it.

"Yeah?" I sighed as I answered the call.

"Good job dealing with the outbreak in France. Now, then, we’ve got an urgent matter than we need you to deal with, in Hawaii," Came the response.

"Hawaii, huh? I don’t suppose you’re giving me a vacation?" I muttered dryly.

"Vacation, you said? On second thought, I’m totally fine now!" Exclaimed Elise, sitting up eagerly.

Idiot.

"A severe Monster outbreak was triggered there, but that’s not the problem...a creature appeared out of the Mauna Loa volcano. From the footage we’ve seen posted online, it’s possibly an Elemental Dragon Deity, the Pyro Dragon, Inferno."

"I’m sorry, what!?" I responded in disbelief.

"Head over there, immediately. Take whoever you need. That’s all," Replied the higher up, before abruptly hanging up.

You’ve gotta be kidding me...another Deity? What’s more, this is no ordinary Deity...the Elemental Dragon Deities are the strongest beings in this world, the only ones stronger than them are literally God and Satan!

There are eight Dragon Deities, and it’s said that, long ago, they’re the ones who bestowed powers unto a handful of humans, giving rise to Meta-Humans.

With the exception of the Physical Skill, the other eight Skills are believed to have come from these creatures. With that in mind, there is absolutely no way in hell that I’m fighting one of them.

"You up to take a trip to Hawaii?" I asked Elise, as I stood up with a groan.

"Uhh...for a vacation?"

"Yeah, a vacation, obviously," I remarked sarcastically, rolling my eyes.

"...no, thanks."

"Oh, but I insist. Get up," I responded, as I opened a portal.

"Noooooo...," She grumbled, as I pulled her back up onto her feet and dragged her into portal.

We emerged in a grassy area...which was on fire, littered with several human corpses. There were dozens of Monsters all over the place, many of the retreating back into the Mirror Dimension, as a large, towering beast stomped several of the Monsters to death.

It had to be at least fifty meters tall, with dark red scales, a fiery glow emanating from between the scales. It had a row of sharp spikes running down its spine and tail, crimson eyes and wide wings that were folded in.

And it was breathing fire, blasting massive waves of incredibly intense flames from its jaws down at the fleeing Monsters.

"N-no way...is that a Dragon Deity?" Stuttered Elise in bewilderment.

Guess I should’ve told her what this was about, huh? Now, then...what exactly do the higher ups want me to do here?

Even Aurora wouldn’t stand a chance against this thing, it’s simply on another level. Minor Deities like Bastet don’t even compare to a creature of this caliber.

"Let’s, uh, wait till it’s done dealing with the Monsters," I remarked, as I backed away.

"Okay...and then, what?" Elise responded warily.

"No clue. Talk to it, maybe?" I replied uncertainly.

"Ah. You’re better at talking than I am, so I’m counting on you," She backed out immediately.

"I’m starting to think it wouldn’t have made a difference whether I brought you along or not."

"Yes, I agree. So, send me back, please," She requested sheepishly.

"No, I need you for, uh...emotional support."

"No, you don’t."

"You don’t know what I need."

"I know you don’t need this." freewebnøvel.coɱ

"But I do."

"Please send me back."

"No."

"Damn it."

We then watched and waited from a safe distance, as the Dragon cut down the remaining Monsters in the area at a remarkable pace. It, uh, sure is doing a lot of damage to the surrounding area though. Like, a tremendous amount of damage.

As it got done with wiping out the Monsters, it suddenly opened its jaws and inhaled sharply, all the flames in the area getting drawn into its mouth, before it snapped its jaws shuts as it sucked up all the flames around.

I then took in a deep breath and slowly exhaled to compose myself, before dropping through a portal and emerging a few meters ahead of the Dragon Deity.

"U-uh, excuse me?" I called out shakily, my body breaking out into a cold sweat as it glanced down and narrowed its eyes at me.

"A human? You have the nerve to approach me? What do you want?" Came the growling response, sending chills down my spine.

This is absolutely terrifying.

"If I may, I’d like to ask what brings you out of your slumber? It’s just, it’s been several centuries since one of your kind has appeared," I responded nervously.

Suddenly, the Dragon began shrinking in size, until it was about seven meters tall, its body growing more slender and limber.

"I simply sensed the foul presence of these vile creatures in my vicinity. Such a thing is unacceptable, therefore I had no choice but to rouse from my slumber," He answered in response, before adding with an intimidating growl, "These creatures are supposed to be the responsibility of you humans that were granted our powers. Additionally, they are not supposed to appear in areas where we reside. I demand an explanation, human."

"R-right, uh...in the last few days, they’ve been inexplicably appearing all over the world in droves, we’ve never seen anything like it. They usually only appear in area where high levels of human malice or spirituality collect, or when a Meta-Human unleashes their Aura. But recently, they’ve been appearing in areas they’ve never been known to appear in, so-...," I explained shakily.

"Tell me, human...has there been any activity from the denizens of Hell in the living world in recent times?" He interrupted with narrowed eyes, the fiery glow between his scales intensifying.

"Uh, yes. We can confirm that at least three Demons of Sin have appeared in our world, and we’ve also witnessed Satan opening small rifts-...," I began, before trailing off as he suddenly stomped his foot onto the ground with a deep growl, the force of the stomp nearly knocking me down.

"So, they have begun to move again, have they? Then it would appear that the time for slumber is at an end. I must wake my brothers and sisters from their dormancy immediately," He responded, before suddenly taking off and flying away.

I collapsed onto my knees with a strained sigh as sweat poured down my face, watching as the Dragon rapidly disappeared from sight...he’s going to awaken the other Deities, huh? I, uh...I really don’t have a good feeling about this at all...
