Chapter 169: Chapter 168 - True Identity

Point-of-View: Inoka Fonseka

———————————————————————————

"Maybe we’re not gonna be included, after all?" I suggested with a shrug, after nearly three hours had passed since the video was uploaded.

"Maybe, but it seems odd...I thought for sure they’d come and say that I need to go with them. Well, not that I mind, I’m perfectly fine with not fighting any more Demons, though I do want to kill Lucifer and Beelzebub if I get the chance," Responded Aurora, as she munched on some gum.

"In that case, how about we chill and have some fun? Cards or a movie or something?" Suggested Alexis, as she zapped some bugs that were buzzing around her with streaks of lightning.

"I’m down with that, it’s been a while since we’ve done something like that," Nodded Zoraiz in agreement.

"Uh, didn’t we all play cards about a couple of weeks ago?" Chimed in X with a raised eyebrow.

"Mhm. What, doesn’t that count as a while?" I responded as I lit up a cigarette.

"I think it does! I’m pretty bored too, so I think it’s a good idea," Chimed in Fenris.

We were currently chilling outside the RVs, all of us except for the twins. Their RV was quiet for once though, so maybe they’re asleep or something. All that banging must have worn them out, I guess.

Mike and Kiyana had gone for the meeting with the higher ups along with Neo and the other Category 0s, so they weren’t here either.

"Hey, uh...what’s that like?" Adelmira asked me awkwardly as she tugged on my sleeve, nodding at my cig.

"Oh, uh...it’s kinda hard to describe," I replied, before holding it out to her to try, since she looked curious.

She’s still pretty awkward around all of us except X and Petra...well, not that she’s seen the latter all that much, since she’s been preoccupied with fucking her brother.

"Hey, no!" Exclaimed X, snatching the cigarette away, before glaring at me, "She’s only fourteen, don’t give her that!"

Oh, right...I forgot. That’s my bad.

"Wha-...no, I’m not, I’ll be sixteen in three months!" Responded Adelmira indignantly.

"Still way too young," Countered X firmly.

"If you don’t mind me asking, how old are you?" Fenris asked X curiously.

"I just turned twenty-eight, if you must know. Why?" She responded with a raised eyebrow.

"Wait, really? No offense, but you look at least about ten years younger than that," He replied in surprise.

"Yeah, well, my growth was stunted thanks to nonstop torture for a few years, I think when I was about sixteen or seventeen," She shrugged.

"Oh, uh...sorry about that."

"It’s cool, I’m over it."

Following that, things got kinda quiet, no one sure what to say. Huh, and now things are all awkward...great.

"So, uh...are you the only one who smokes here?" Adelmira inquired, breaking the silence.

"Huh? Well...regularly speaking, yes. Some of the others do it occasionally," I answered her.

"I tried it once. Didn’t like it, it messed with my senses a bit," Frowned Aurora in response.

"Yeah, same here. My sense of smell gets especially compromised, and my tongue feels all dirty and bitter," Said Fenris as he scrunched up his nose.

"Heh, that’s what she said," I responded with a grin.

"Nice one," Laughed Fenris in amusement.

Most of the others rolled their eyes, while Zoraiz shook his head but I could see him trying not to smile, while Adelmira let out a stifled laugh.

"Anyway, getting back to it, I don’t mind smoking, but I try not to do it too much," Added Zoraiz.

"I’ve tried it a few times, I didn’t get why people enjoy it at first, but after a couple more tries, I kinda get it now," Chimed in Alexis, as she zapped the last of the bugs around her with a triumphant smirk.

Wait, what?

"Hold on a sec, I’ve never given you one...when exactly did you-...?" I began with a frown.

"Oh, crap...well, uh, guess the cat’s out of the bag. So, I might have snuck in to your RV a few times when you weren’t in, and maybe kinda sorta...borrowed one each time? I last did it a couple of months ago, I think," She admitted sheepishly.

"...you little brat. How many times did you do that?" I sighed in exasperation.

"Hey, don’t call me a brat, I’ve been eighteen for three months now!" She protested indignantly, before adding, "And, uh...like fourteen or fifteen times, I think?"

Son of a...come to think of it, there were a few times where I felt like I had less cigs remaining than I thought I did. I just figured I miscounted or something. But it was her the whole time. ƒгeewebnovёl.com

"I’m so gonna make you pay for that," I grumbled, as I gave her the stinkeye.

"Oh, yeah? Hmph, go ahead and try," She responded with a huff.

"Brat."

"Asshole."

"Bit-..."

"Please stop," Groaned Zoraiz, interrupting me.

"Yeah, you two do this every time," Sighed Aurora in exasperation.

Well, I sorta got the last word in, not fully, but still, so I’ll drop it.

"Sure, whatever," I shrugged indifferently.

"Hey, could I borrow one of those?" X asked for a cigarette, to which I nodded and tossed one towards her, along with the lighter.

"Thanks," She responded, as she lit it up and took a puff.

"Have you smoked before?" Adelmira asked her.

"Mhm. I started on one of the first few missions Eden assigned me to, and it became a regular thing on my longer missions after a while," She replied, as she blew out a cloud of smoke, before turning to me and asking, "Hey, have you ever tried weed?"

"Yeah, a couple of times, but it’s illegal here, so it’s hard to come by," I informed her.

"It’s way better than this stuff," She responded, as she took another puff.

"Wait, if it’s illegal, how’d you get to try it a couple of times?" Zoraiz inquired curiously.

"Well, most recently, through Neo, back when we were still in Antarctica. Then he was busy for a while, and the next time he was able to bring in the stuff we all request, I forgot to ask for any weed, and then I forgot again and again. And before that, there was this time I was going home in an auto rickshaw, and the driver offered me some to buy.

I got it from him a couple more times, but after that, he stopped answering his phone. He probably got caught and arrested or something," I recalled, as I finished up my cig and tossed it onto the grass, stomping on it to put out the flame.

"You should ask for some from Neo the next time you get a chance. It’s way better than tobacco, and of course, the high is great," Said X in response.

"Could I try some too?" Inquired Adelmira with a look of intrigue.

"Nope, you’re too young."

"Oh, come on!"

Suddenly, a portal opened up, Neo stepping out with a slightly weary look on her face.

"You sure took a while, didn’t you?" Aurora greeted him.

"Yeah, blame the higher ups and their indecisiveness. I’ll cut right to the chase...Aurora, Inoka, X and Fenris, come with me. Fenris, if you don’t want to, then you can stay behind," He remarked bluntly.

"Oh, they’re finally letting me tag along? Sweet!" He grinned eagerly, clearly having no intention of staying behind.

"Guess we’re left out again, huh?" Sighed Alexis to Zoraiz.

"Yeah, as usual," He responded wryly.

"This could be dangerous, so we can’t risk it. You two still aren’t ready yet," Neo informed them.

"I’m surprised that the Harmony higher ups actually trust me though, I didn’t expect to be included," Remarked X in surprise.

"Well, you did help take down the heart of Eden, so yeah," He shrugged in response, before clearing his throat and adding, "Anyway, you four have five minutes to get ready. So, hurry it up."

We then headed back to our respective RVs and got changed, putting on out combat outfits. I have to say, I really don’t have a very good feeling about this at all.

Chaos doesn’t pull any punches, and they don’t have a set goal, their only objective is to create, well, chaos.

There’s no telling what they’ve got planned this time. But that’s not the only thing I’m worried about. Anarchy’s true identity...that has me more than a little concerned as well.

Is she really someone I know well? Or was that a bluff? I suppose there’s no sense in trying to guess at this point...it won’t be long before we find out exactly who she is. But, then...that’s exactly what has me most concerned...
